@Chris Ayala Google your stones. Mined in the jalisco region of Mexico. Ranges in color from yellow, orange and red orange. Better yet have a look on youtube you'll watch it be mined. Happy learning!

I love opal! I hate choosing “favorite things” because I’m usually fairly indecisive with that kind of thing, but opals succeeded in becoming my favorite gemstone because of how colorful and varied they are! So cool!

Love this channel and everything geologic. I carve and cab opal and just wanted to add that your Rainbow Fish is unfortunately not a black opal, but a semi-dark opal instead. It's potch would be graded at best an N6 on the Body Tone Scale, which falls outside the N1-N4 range for black opal. It's still a beautifully carved stone, incredible actually, just not a black opal. Thanks for reading. Keep up the great work. You guys ROCK! LOL.

Just wanted to let you know that those semi-black opals do have a separate name, being called semi-black or dark opals due to the darker color of potch. As an opal cutter myself I classify them on a scale based on the color of potch from White opal, light opal, dark opal, to black opal. As well as crystal opal if the potch is translucent.

Opals are my absolute favorite type of crystal to collect! I have precious opals from Australia, Ethiopia, Mexico, America, Honduras, Indonesia, Slovakia, and Brazil. I love how varied they are depending on where/how they formed! My favorite is my non-hydrophane 443 carat Ethiopian opal 😊

This is amazing! I learned something today about opals!! I mean, I knew the different types of opals but what I didn’t know that most Ethiopian opals are hydrophane and would stick to your tongue if you lick it. Haha!

Super glad I found this channel so now maybe I won't get ripped off when I'm buying different rocks and gemstones and crystals and all this stuff! Made the mistake the first round quite a few years back buying a lot of stuff from China thinking I was getting the real deal when what it really was, I believe was glass and maybe resin made to look like crystal quartz etc. I definitely learned from that

I have _three_ favorite hues: green, orange & purple - all preferably in deeper shades; tbh, I love _all_ colors, but those are my top choices. If I'm selecting something in a different hue, I choose the deep jewel tones. I also have a very short list of metallics: copper & silver. So I _totally_ get the passion for opals. I've the same for opals as well & emeralds (my "birthstone") & topaz & amethyst. Geology rocks. 😊

Opals rock! I hope to get more. There's so many opals Fire opal can be Yellow, Orange, Red, White and Blue. Opalite there's two kinds. The natural one that's green and opaque and can have chatoyancy I believe. The second kind is the synthetic glass that looks rainbow and is incredibly dirt cheap like 1 dollar or 5 dollars There's Opal With dendritic inclusions which gives it the name Dendritic Opal There's also Peruvian opals which I think are common opals I've seen sky blue, peachy baby pink ones, green, Turquoise and lime green ones and they can even be stripped with Carmel and or can have dendritic inclusions . I'm sure there's others too :) Some color opals like common opal can have cat's eye chatoyancy. and very rarely some opals can have both opalescence ( Play of color ) and Cat's eye Chatoyancy and the rarest opal is Star Opal! Only found in Idaho and they have play of color and a very distinct asterism which is caused by the diffraction of light from imperfections in the arrangement of silica (SiO2) in the stones. it can be any color and it's extremely rare. It can be 3 rayed or 6 rayed. I hope to get one one day. I really enjoyed this video and learn some different opals :D

@somethinginthewalls388
@somethinginthewalls388 3 жыл бұрын
Diamonds can be beautiful aesthetic-wise, but they're also pretty much time capsules whose inclusions can give us a little sneak peek into the mantle and its composition. The mantle is pretty hard to explore now due to the increased temperature and pressure the deeper you go, so geologists use diamonds as a means of learning about it.

So I have a brown rock that looks slightly like quartzite or maybe even… feldspar. I found a ton of irony quartz in that area. However after I shaped this one, It now has a ribbon-like opal effect on one corner of one side. It was found at the bottom of a lake in Idaho. Just curious what I might have if there’s any gem experts that can tell what I have just by that description, that would be rad! Lol love your videos by the way, I’ve learned a lot already. Thank you ❤️

Did I have a real gemstone or something else? I was hoping this phenomenon would be mentioned but it wasn’t so now I’m wondering if my opal was even genuine?

It is silica spheres that make the color, I believe it's different sizes of sphere that makes different colors. And their arrangement makes the pattern. It's relatively new information so it may be much more complex than suspected.
