Why everyone in the West thinks that Kievan Rus is an Ukrainian State? Kyiv was literally conquered by Novgorod. Yes, it became the capital, but its more like all Eastern Slavic State like German or French State at the time.

Saying the Kievan Rus was Ukrainian or Russian is completely false; those are both modern cultures that evolved from it. It would be more fitting to say that the Rus was previously its own culture, which diverged into Ukrainian and Russian as time went on. This doesn't mean either country has a claim to the other's ethnicity, but that they share a common ancestor.
