My Two Hearted Ale went into my keg this morning! It's sitting at 30 PSI until tomorrow when I'll turn it down to serving pressure and wait a few more days. I can't wait!! Cheers!

I don't think anyone has done videos on beginner brews. I think it would be a great idea. I suspect most people who go looking for help from a KZfaq channel are going to be beginners. A playlist with "first brew" recipes would be a big hit I bet. Walked through carefully each time, I know it's more work on your part, but repetition is how most people learn. I thought I'd throw this out there for you.

That's a good idea. My all grain brewing video is kind of like that for people who are switching to all grain. But maybe I'll order an extract kit and do one on my stove using a smaller batch and adding water afterwards.

I had to come back to this video, yes, I thought I noticed that the audio quality has improved. :-D Looking at the recipe on Bell's website I am a bit bummed. When I was checking out getting into brewing I was told that I should get at least a 16 qt. brewpot, a 5 gallon was recommended. I got 5 gallons. I see that to brew this beer, and now I'm wondering how many others, I actually need an even bigger pot. :-\

For all grain brewing, you will need to do full boils, which means you'll have a higher volume between 6 to up to 7.5 gallons. For extract Brewing a lot of times people will do it on a stove top and add water at the end to bring it up to the full volume.

Hmm, I didn't do any of the purging of air. I did bleed the keg after though. We shall see.

Purging isn't necessary. I only really do that for hazy IPAs.

So how did it taste? How high was abv?
@CityscapeBrewing
@CityscapeBrewing 2 жыл бұрын
It turned out great. I've harvested their yeast several times and made their different recipes, and in some cases I prefer mine because it is fresh and the cans or bottles are a few months old. The ABV was a bit higher but not crazy. I think about 7.6... and original is 7%. I'd have to look back at my notes.

Sorry to keep asking questions but I feel you have an idea where I'm at and I trust your answers. In a couple of days I am going to be bottling. Up until now I have not seen the beer, it's in the closed up bucket. My question is, will it be okay to open the top on bottling day before I move it to the bottling bucket? I don't expect it to be moldy or anything but how would I know for sure unless I look? I have heard about the issues of oxidization and exposing the beer to air. Thanks in advance for you answer.

I like the questions, no worries at all. You'll be just fine. When your beer is fermenting, it is creating CO2. Since it is heavier than air, it creates a blanket over the beer. When I brewed in a bucket I did not have a spigot on my main fermenter, so I had to open the lid every time and use an auto siphon. As long as you are not splashing it around you should be just fine. You will need to crack the lid either way to allow air to come in while you're transferring anyway or it won't drain down the hose.
