11:00 small correction, the other piston pulls the redstone block back updating the powered piston

14:47 btw you can make this 2 blocks cheaper. if you move down the sticky piston and both observers one block down this will still work meaning you dont need both a block and a noteblock because again quasi connectivity. edit: actually theres 2 quasi connectivities because the piston will also be quasi powered.

wait then wouldnt the dropper turn off when there are items inside of it? and then turn on where there are no items? you'd make an anti-smart dropper, unless you invert the piston, but there doesnt seem to be a great place for a torch
@matveytsarichansky8953
@matveytsarichansky8953 9 ай бұрын
@@ovencake523 I think you didn't understand it correctly. there's a dropper and out of it there's a comparator same as what he showed then the comparator sees the face of an observer with a sticky piston facing up underneath and when it extends it starts the observer clock which constantly powers and depowers the air which because quasi connectivity exists it will constantly power and depower the dropper. and the piston btw is also extended the whole time when the comparator is activated because again quasi connectivity. hopefully this explanation is good, I mean you can just try to build it and see that it works, I already used this a few times and it works.

A mixture of a very slow clock and a randomizer, for the challenge you gave at the end of the video: Have a sheep on a dirt block, next to a grass block the sheep can't access. Point an observer at the dirt block. You now will get a pulse when the grass spreads and when the sheep eats the grass!

My original clock design is a water stream of any length, a hopper at the end and a dropper at the start, with the hopper pushing the item directly into the dropper and a repeater-delayed comparator signal from the hopper spitting the item back into the water stream.

Simple and (somewhat) compact clock idea: Piston in front of an observer such that when the piston arm is extended, it covers the face of the observer (exciting it), then when the piston retracts, the observer fires and extends the piston again. Dust or other observers can be used to connect to the piston. Admittedly, this is a noisy design, but a good and spicy spaghetti pile of redstone is rarely silent.

A server I used to play on disabled redstone clocks so I created an "armor stand clock" using water elevator and several cobwebs (to adjust loop time). you can also take advantage of item despawning time(5 minutes) or daylight sensors(power goes to zero once a Minecraft day no matter the weather) to make some really simple clocks.

4:08 I believe that is in fact just a 13 tick clock and not a 26. It is on for 4 ticks and off for 9 also at 6:07, a more complicated pistonless design is to have a form of repeater lock that captures the signal. This will have some lag between input and action, which I doubt could be avoided (without overcomplicating using zero-tick stuff)

A clock I used that predates hoppers and comparators was basically a minecart. Put down a loop of track with powered rails, put a detector rail as it's output and push a minecart and it'd pulse at a regular rate. Definitely didn't invent it, but that was my go to for a while.

I have this Observer facing daylight sensor as a redstone clock. It send redstone signal multiple times per day when the daylight sensor update it's power level, and send no signal at all at night. I don't need a precise timing, but just a way to activate contraption multiple times per day.

I actually did invent a new Clock, that I have never seen before. It uses 2 Skulk Sensors which alternate with flicking up and down a trapdoor triggering each other. The system is closed of by Wool and has an output from an observer. It can also be toggeled with redstone torches forcing the trapdoors open

10:20 If you don't want to use sticky pistons for whatever reason, or you just don't like the noise that Etho clocks make, remember that Etho made a redstone version. I think it's a bit slower, but should pretty much look identical and as said, Etho clocks aren't used for precise redstone. By the way, if you want to see the redstone version, EthosLab made an amazing tutorial in his channel (it's 10 years old, but it should work still).

yo I have an idea for a cycle. I've seen it on someone, but I don't remember who. You put the minecart on the rails at an angle down, put a fence at the same level as the minecart, and a pressure plate on top. In conclusion, the minecart presses on the plate, it remains pressed, rises and the minecart, without moving from its place, presses on it again. The signal is received EXACTLY 1 time per second. I hope you appreciate the idea

for a fairly impractical clock, you can use a sticky piston that cuts off its own redstone signal when it extends, either by moving the block out of the way of a repeater or by cutting off redstone going up a block

I always liked to use a sticky piston and make it push a block forward when the piston is powered. The block was connecting two redstone lines, that powered the piston so it's removal removed the power of the piston. If you wanted the clock to go slower you could just use repeaters.

In the auto dropper design, the dust to the side of the comparator is what updates the dropper. Dust gives off updates 2 blocks in each direction, including diagonally. This is also one of the reasons why redstone dust is one of the laggiest components in the game.

my contribution to the wonderful world of weird clocks: place a creeper in a short (3 to 5 blocks long) tunnel. at both ends of the tunnel place pressure plates that activate the R and S inputs of an RS latch respectively. let the Q and inverted Q outputs trigger sticky pistons that open or close the line of sight into the tunnel. place cats behind the pistons. the result is a creeper erratically running back an fourth. every time it reaches one end of the tunnel, the cat nearest to it gets exposed, shooing it away. the timing of this clock is quite random, since the mob behavior timing is fairly unpredictable. therefore i call it the "fuzzy feline clock", or FFC. (a repeater delay may be needed in front of the pistons to make it reliable. for extra points you can also name the cats alice and bob) proof of concept gif: imgur 5IToxkH

14:41 the dropper is activated by the blue wool on the diagonal behind it, strongly powered by the redstone dust in star mode.
@Nos_Yous
@Nos_Yous 8 ай бұрын
He's not talking about that. He's talking about how quasi connectivity works. Basically, the dropper needs an update so that it can be powered. If not, then it'll never be powered. His thoughts on it, is that it gets updated when the comparator turns on / off and it sends an update, but it's just a theory. Also, just for a small clarification (don't take this seriously, and/or take it in a way that's offended), the redstone dust in "star mode" is formally called "cross shaped redstone dust", but you can call it whatever you want.
@GradientAscent_
@GradientAscent_ 8 ай бұрын
@@Nos_Yous Thanks, my second guess as to why the dropper gets updated is through the redstone dust going into the comparator, which updates the comparator and in turn the dropper with it.
@Nos_Yous
@Nos_Yous 8 ай бұрын
@@GradientAscent_ Well, comparators don't need updates, since the only things that need updating is stuff that got quasi connectivity, or when it loses signal when redstone gets redirected (and some other small stuff). Anways, blocks don't send updates either way, but i still don't know the reason for why the dropper updates.

Great video, Jazzii. I wanted to call out in particular your concept of showing contraptions as a black box before explaining. As a software engineer, a few years ago I found out about functional programming and how it very specifically works with inputs and outputs of functions (and abstractions built on top of that). It's not for everyone, but it fit my autistic brain much better than the more common OOP approach, and your method is very similar! Not sure that's where you got the idea from, but I think it plays a big part on why so often I see people in the comments of your videos going "oh, this video finally made this concept click for me". Keep it up! I'm always excited to see another banger from you
@jazziiRed
@jazziiRed 9 ай бұрын
Thank you for the kind words! Yeah, the concept of the black box is something I believe I picked up during some programming class in college, or maybe some math teacher before that. I don't exactly remember where it came from, but I also find it easier to both teach and learn abstract concepts by starting with "What does it do?" and then move on to "How does it work." Having both at the same time can be over-stimulating, so I like to split it up when I can. And yeah, the "it finally clicked" comments are the best. Definitely motivates me to make much more of these guides.

As someone who has no idea how redstone works but has a huge insane idea, what is your opinion about using encoding to basically make wireless messaging? I would use banners or player heads placed into shulker in order so that when they’re unloaded in order it makes them re loaded in the receiving hub in the correct way. It would have 7 redstone lines each to a calibrated skulk sensor that would have a certain code for each “letter” or symbol. gives 128 options! I have no idea how to go about this so thought I’d throw this into the world in case someone would want to try :)
