Over the past few months, I discovered several more instances of the different Mac crash chimes that were used from 1987 to 2017. Here's a video demonstrating all these crash chimes in action!

0:37 is the best crash chime for some reasons. I wonder why Mac has crash chime unlike Windows and Linux but funny when Apple changed those tones from less dramatic to more traumatic or even slower or low-pitched.

The slower the Hardware Failure chime is on the Powerbook 1400cs, that could mean your Macintosh is beyond repair and is completely dead.

f4, a4, c5, f5, a4, a#4, a#4 again, f#4. if you want the one at 0:57, replace the a#4 again with just another a4, and the # mean sharp. so a#4 is a sharp on the 4th octave.

I had a 6115 and I loved the crash sound so i turned it into an alert tone. There were two buttons on the back that when you pressed them both it would crash and I recorded it with my MD. Eventually I grabbed a resource editor and found it buried in the os. Mac used to be a blast from OS1 to 9.2. Now it's dull like tinyflaccid.

0:57 i know how to play it on piano f4, a4, c5, f5 for the 1st 4 notes. the rest is a4, a sharp 4 (a#4), then for some, a#4 again, but for this model, back to a4, then f#4. your welcome

3 beeps and 9 beeps are the sounds that totally give me a nightmare if I own any pre T2 Mac products. Not to mention that if I bring them to MUN (Model United Nations), when the MacBook beeps 3 or 9 times during the committee, the chairperson would ask me to stop using my affected Mac and use another one if it is fully working.

I assume the CPU or other component has had a failure that causes it to run very slowly, in the same way that if you have a failed overclock on a modern machine it'll run at 800MHz

What makes these chimes so scary is how expensive they were to fix if they were due to hardware faults and not corrupted system software. Just look at the back of any 90s computer magazine to see how costly something like a bad 8MB memory module or worse, a logic board could be and you'll understand the existential dread these tones caused Mac users. Also, you should adjust for inflation for the full spine chilling experience of the death chimes.

so my windows pc is just gonna spit some gobbledygook corrupted audio where if i switch to mac where it plays me a whole ass symphony and maybe even teaches me morse for SOS (i’m switching)
