Nice job, Mountain Daisies. This song has SO MANY great covers, including this one. Maybe because it is so freakin' good, that it touches something within the artists and brings out their best. Is it the melody? Is it the lyrics? Well, yes and yes. Thank songwriter Julie Miller. And who is that singer from Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra of Oslo -- Rebecca Nilsson. To me, she is the current "owner" of this song. Listen to Hayde's live version recorded at John Gee in that Bluegrass Capital -- Oslo.

In a quiet, lush and beautiful Utah mountain valley, 120+ women, children, and unarmed men from a wagon train bound for California were slaughtered by Mormon settlers. Afterward, none was buried. The Mountain Meadows Massacre; please research it. The largest mass murder in American history until 9-11-2001. Chillingly, it also occurred on 9-11… 1857. I dedicate this song to their memory, remembered by few.

For the life of me I don’t understand how the person who produces such videos thinks that they are somehow enhancing the music. Besides being an unnecessary distraction, this one in particular is just completely out of sync with the message itself, not to mention the spirit of the music. Simple and straightforward is much better, IMHO. Beautiful rendition musically, btw. Best heard with eyes closed.
