Wow, Ellen, thank you for sharing such wonderful recipe❤🙏. I have been making our deodorant, without baking soda, for some time now (the kind of creamy one that you have to use your finger to apply it on your armpit 🤷‍♀️) but I have been wanting to make the solid bar version, and I have looked at way so many recipes...😲 so your video has just come at just perfect timing. I buy coconut oil right from a family that live in the countryside, regular melting point I would say (I infuse it with sage for 40 days to make the deodorant) and since I don't have access to mango or shea butter I will try this recipe with tallow, using a little less amount than your recipe calls for 🤔... I think it will work just fine. I will share how it turns out. Btw, I still make your tallow balm recipe, I even make it using sheep tallow that I render and deodorize myself, and even though it's a long tiring process the wonderful ginal product is really worth all the hard work. Once again, thank you very much for everything! May the Lord continue to bless you and watch over you and your family. 🙏

Hi Hellen. I was thinking that, if you use 76⁰ coconut oil, as the melting point is lower, it could work with a harder butter, like cocoa butter, and even use a slightly higher percentage of beeswax. I'm from Portugal, and in the area where I live, it's very hot in the summer, so maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to use a harder butter or a little more bee wax. Thanks for the video!

I had very stinky armpits and when I started using a natural deodorant, it took me a few days to get it to work. You may have to go as long as a week or two to get your body to get acclimated to the new product. But it works and you are not exposed to poisons.

I just noticed....you wrote Sandalwood Essential Oil on the Lavender label. LOL! I do stuff like that all of the time. Glad I'm not alone! :D I will definitely be trying this recipe out. Also, if you melt your big bottle of coconut oil, you can transfer into a clean bucket for easier scooping! I save all of my buckets from WSP or where ever to do this. I've gotten coconut oil from Natures Garden that was in a jug & melted it, then poured into the old coconut bucket so it was labeled already.

fantastic video! I just wanted to confirm whether zinc oxide can be used instead of baking soda?

The zinc can leave a white cast on the skin. I suggest doing a small test batch, and see how you like it.

Ellen would you say these would use the same usage rate as lotion bars? I never go above around 3% if I want to use regular fragrance oil

Excellent video, thank you Ellen! This may sound like a strange question but, you mentioned how yours has a very slight texture but not like a grit. What if I wanted to make a deodorant which was a little bit gritty, what might I need to add more of or include?
@EllenRuthSoap

You could actually add a bit of quality salt, plus salt helps dry things out too..

I’mnot a medical professional but I think what causes odor is bacteria, so unless we’re able to control bacteria growth, we’ll be masking the odor but not preventing it or eliminating it. I wonder if using honey would do the trick, though it would probably make the bars sticky, so I don’t think just adding honey to these recipes would work, I think the recipes would have to be reformulated. I wonder if the baking soda has an anti-bacterial property… I do think it probably helps keeping the armpits free of stains, which is nice. Thank you for your video, I love your channel.

Lavender, tea tree oil and a few other essential oils are antibacterial, so using them would take care of that.
@Laura-lh6sm
@Laura-lh6sm 3 ай бұрын
@@kristaransbottom6765 I didn’t know lavender had that property. I knew tea tree oil was good for keeping lice away but didn’t know it was antibacterial. The issue I would see with tea tree oil is dosage, I read somewhere it can be toxic if you use too much. Thank you for the info.

Thank you for another great recipe! I want to make the baking soda free one but I was wondering, since you took out the 14 g of baking soda isn't the formula thinner? I am wondering about using magnesium to make up the difference. The current natural deodorant I use has magnesium.
