Regarding the teams that won many NBA titles upon not being that team or being a different team back then controversially, here's why: The Boston Celtics with 18 NBA titles, many people say 11 of the titles were won when there were only 8 teams in the league. The fact of the matter is that they won exactly 18 titles no matter the circumstances in the league or conference and also considering the fact that they failed to win in 1958 against the St. Louis Hawks and didn't appear in the 1967 NBA Finals upon getting eliminated by Philadelphia 76ers in the Semifinals, the Celtics is now the only team in the NBA league with the most NBA titles in franchise history. The LA/Minneapolis Lakers with 17 titles, many people say 5 of them were from Minneapolis and they have a total of 12 titles, however unless the team has folded or anything, the Lakers has won exactly 17 titles upon them moving from Minneapolis to Los Angeles. The San Francisco Warriors (Golden State) with 7 titles, many people say 2 were from Philadelphia so they have a total of 5 titles, same goes for the Lakers unless the team has folded OR anything, the Golden State Warriors has won a total of 7 titles upon moving from Philadelphia, San Francisco and Oakland. The Philadelphia 76ers/Syracuse Nationals with 3 titles tied with the Miami Heat and the Detroit Pistons, there is likely going to be an argument regarding the 76ers winning 1 title in many years, 1 stolen from Syracuse and the other one was when there were 8 teams in the league. They won 3 titles upon being called the "Nationals" and the team has never changed ever since until the organization decided to change the team's name and again no matter the circumstances in the league or conference, they legitimately won a total of 3 NBA titles. The Oklahoma City Thunder (Seattle SuperSonics) with 1 NBA title, arguments like the SuperSonics and the Thunder are 2 different teams, they won an NBA title because they never folded, the organization decided to change the team's color, logo and the team's name from SuperSonics to Thunder and moved from Seattle to Oklahoma City. The Washington Wizards with 1 NBA title (Bullets), arguments like the Baltimore Bullets have 2 NBA titles as they won in 1948. The Baltimore Bullets and the Baltimore/Washington Bullets were to 2 different teams. The Baltimore Bullets (1948) won 1 NBA title then folded in 1954, the Baltimore/Washington Bullets is a different team as when the organization got purchased, they were called the "Chicago Packers" and the organization decided to move the Baltimore in 1963 and changed the team to the "Baltimore Bullets" as either a reputation to the team that won in 1948 or for other reasons. The Wizards/Bullets won 1 title and the Bullets (1948 ABA/NBA champions) won 1 title. The Atlanta Hawks won 1 NBA title, arguments like the Atlanta Hawks won 0, one was from Saint Louis. Just like the Lakers and the Warriors, they moved from St. Louis to Atlanta and are still the same team. The Atlanta Hawks won 1 NBA title upon being the ruthless Boston Celtics back in 1958. Lastly, The Sacramento Kings with 1 NBA title, arguments like the Royals won 1, not the Kings. Just like the teams I mentioned the Lakers, Warriors and Hawks. The organization decided to change the team's location and name. Should still be obvious if anyone knows what a royal is. The Kings won 1 NBA title.
