The all-new Jeep Wrangler is a huge improvement over the last model with a focus on improved road manors, updating the cabin and making the Wrangler easier to live with every single day. Every aspect of the new 2018 Wrangler was studied to make improvements, from the addition of LED headlamps, new 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder, a new 6-speed manual transmission, 8-speed automatic, improved roof design and interior comfort. The difference between the old Wrangler model and this new version is like night and day, this is now a 5-passnger utility that makes it easy to live with every single day, plus it retains its trail-rated 4X4 credibility.

The 91% retained value is determined by Canadian Black Book. Here is the link to the information. www.canadianblackbook.com/2018awardwinners.html

Canadian Black Book is a reliable source, all they do is look at car valuations. A big reason for the value is cars being purchased at auction and brought to the US.

well, if you have any integrity intelligent and Common Sense, you should not mentioned them on your reviews, are you going to pay 91% or even 75% of MSRP on a 4 years old used car?

buddy no idea what you're talking about,... do you know what black book is and who actually uses it? Do you own a jeep? have you sold one? 91% is a stretch but has nothing to do with integrity or common sense.

Another well thought out and edited video. Thanks Zack. Having owned two YJ’s (Canada’s first 4.0 HO ‘Islander’ and a well used ‘87 Sahara) I love these things. But utility lacked with the introduction of that ‘TJ’ and since then ... I’ve lost interest. Besides the price just became too unattainable for a 2nd car. But now.... It may may be worth a look. I was impressed. Thanks again.

Really appreciate your reviews. They're different from other KZfaq channels because most of the time you give a clear and decisive opinion on the car instead of just providing facts. And hearing a 91% residual value is insane. What other cars can get you that? I'd like to see more time dedicated toward comparing what you're driving to the other cars in the segment. So what do you think compares with the Wrangler? Is it the best vehicle of its kind? Is someone shopping for a Pilot or Highlander going to be happy with a Wrangler as a more fun option?

My mom had one of these. I think as a Jeep, it would make a good off road vehicle. Although my mom didn’t use it for that. She used it as her grocery getter style car. For those purposes, the ride is just not great and it is a massive gas guzzler. With her driving, she somehow got it to get only 4 MPG. I didn’t even know that was possible. She also had problems with the rear defrost wire coming off along with the transfer case being broken from the factory. Assuming you get one that doesn’t have these problems though, I am sure it makes a good off road vehicle. My mom certainly wouldn't be able to drive hers now that she has a roughly 1 hour commute each day she works. That would be awful on gas especially with how gas prices are now, so she traded it for a Honda Civic. My overall thoughts on this Jeep. If you plan to go off-road frequently, this would be something to look at. I don’t really recommend it as a grocery getter though since that is simply not what it is designed for.

Did price of the wrangler has gone up by a lot every year in the last 8 years ? That’s what driving the used prices up to retain their value. I believe they are now hitting the top of what they can raise the price which indicate that history might not be a good predictor for future retained value going forward (although relatively they may still keep their value pretty good vs other vehicles)

@motormouth what is the model that retained the best value? (Would be happy for a detailed answer... including color of the car)
@Motormouth...
@Motormouth... 5 жыл бұрын
I don't know what colour but in Canada we have a low dollar and many cars are being purchased and shipped to the US. So buying these cars with a stronger dollar pushes up the price. This is true for all used cars but for some reason the Wrangler has benefited the most. According to the the price guide Canadian Black Book(like Kelly Blue Book), this car has won the best retained value after 4-years for this size SUV the past 8-years and it is the overall best retained value at 91%

I have a 4Dr V6 2018. V6 is responsive, auto stop/start is annoying, but helps with fuel savings as this thing is a pig on gas. I love the drive to work (no hwy), great visibility, a very visceral drive. I hadn’t drive am older model at all, but this sucks compared to my 2016 Venza Limited V6 in terms of refinement. On pavement it feels like I’m off-road, and I have to constantly correct the steering when driving over 100 km/hr. But I still like this damn thing. It is nice inside, I like the freedom roof, and the alpine stereo system is extra bass-ee. My V6 was quite a bit faster, and more useful for hauling 10 ft 2x4s. I thought that car sucked on gas for work at 11.5 L/100 kms. My Jeep only has 10,000 Kim’s on it now, but I only get 15L/100 kms for the same Daly drive to work.

My average so far is 10.8L/100kms driving downtown to work and back daily. Another thing I think these do well is infotainment. The Uconnect with 8.4” system is excellent!

But... I do recall reading that Jeep ranks near the bottom of nearly every automotive list for quality, reliability and warranty work. And from my experience, I believe this to be accurate. What would I recommend to someone who considers these.... ‘go out and get a RAV4 or CRV’ -they won’t be disappointed (great mpg, low maintenance, and reliable). Personally though... I’d buy the Jeep instead. So I think many people have a somewhat love/hate relationship with these Jeeps.

Fiat has actually has done a pretty good job of improving the quality of Chrysler's vehicle brands, but they still have a long way to go. It was Sergio Marchionne himself that publicly admitted how awful the JK was during its first few years. You can thank Fiat for addressing the incredibly poor interior quality of the Wrangler in 2011 and introducing a far superior powertrain for 2012. Unfortunately, such efforts were too little too late and the JK didn't really get the love it deserved until it reached the end of its production cycle. The JL is the JK done right and it's the Wrangler we should've had five years ago.

Front inner C's are much larger and stronger. Axle tubes are larger diameter and thicker walls adding much needed strength. Carrier bearings are larger in the differentials." BS&R

if the residuals were 91% after 4 years these things should lease for $100 a month with nothing down. if it cost $36000 a 36 mnth lease x $100 = 3600 which is 10%.
@gs98999
@gs98999 5 жыл бұрын
tmwall25 You’re forgetting interest rate which is 6.09% on the lease. Also Jeep would never set the residual at 90%. More likely they would set it closer to 60%. They are a business. If they get the Jeep back after lease end they want to be able to resell it and make another 10 grand off the next buyer. Setting the residual at 90% would lose them money on lease returns.

Aleks Lajzer One would have to buy it with cash and sell it to take advantage of the small depreciation. Then there's an issue of opportunity cost of the cash paid for the car.

At 2:06, not just illuminate but blind t.f. out of all other drivers. Yes, it's more aesthetically pleasing; LEDs give modern look. But these vehicles are too high to be equipped with those. Agreed?

I don't like the leds on this wrangler. Makes the wrangler look fancy and that's not what wranglers are about

@@Motormouth... Zack, back in 2007 I had a Sahara with a 6-spd manual, which makes me doubtful that FCA would go back to the 5-spd. Just to be sure, I went back and checked the specs of every year Wrangler since 2007, and there's not a 5-spd manual to be found. Maybe you were thinking of the old TJ?

You know what, you are right! I was doing this from memory and it was the automatic that was a 5-speed. I drove one last year and noted the 5-speed. It was the auto not the manual. My bad!

Did you ever try to drive one from coast to coast, I know a guy who went through 3 radiators driving one from Chatham, New Brunswick to Comox, BC on Vancouver Island, overheated really bad in the summer towing a small trailer.
