Thanks, Paul. I want to use software simulations more and more for interactive tutorials. This is the main topic for our session tomorrow. I had trouble with Captivate Classic mouse click accuracy.

Thank you Paul for this great video! I've worked a lot with Captivate Classic and I'm having a hard time understanding how the new version works. :) One thing in particular is how to copy the background from a simulation (to edit in PhotoShop). I can't seem to find a way to save the background image. Is this possible in Captivate 12?

Yes but make sure you upgrade to version 12.2.

Greetings, thank you for the tutorial. I just want to ask, when simulating the use of a software, sometimes there's more than one way to perform a function. For instance, Select file and SAVE or Press Control and S. How will I also capture these additional functions because I do not want to limit learners. Thank you.

I would start by capturing the method that contains the most steps. In Adobe Captivate Classic, you can add click boxes to accommodate the secondary task methods. You might need to skip slides where a learner performs keyboard shortcuts vs. opening up a menu and selecting a submenu, but it can be done with some patience. I haven't tested this in Captivate 12 as of yet, but there is a new update that allows you to add components like click boxes.

Quick question: great video btw. How do you export the same video you created to MP4? I only have the option to export as HTML, in Adobe Captivate classic we have the dropdown to select MP4 but not in the 2023 version.

Because Adobe Captivate 12 is responsive design there is no option for exporting as a video.

Great video, but one of the best features of the Classic Captivate was to convert those comment boxes to smart shapes. Has Adobe removed that functionality from the new Captivate??

The original Captivate Captions are no longer in use in version 12. They are not exactly smart shapes either. I suggest you download the software and test it out.

Hi, Paul. In this video, you mention being able to override hotkeys if necessary. However, I don't see a way to do that. I want to make an Excel software simulation for my students, and one step requires the use of the F4 key to make an absolute cell reference. However, in the new Adobe Captivate, that function key is used for automatic panning. I went into preferences and "Keys," but the fields are not clickable/editable, and I don't see anything that looks like it will allow me to edit the keys. Is there another place to find this feature? Love your videos, btw. I've been watching for years. 🙂

That's a mistake. I probably said that because this was something you can do in Adobe Captivate 11. Unfortunately this isn't an option in version 12. My advice is to provide Adobe this feedback through their online form for submitting a feature enhancement: www.adobe.com/go/cp_user_voice In the meantime, you can always continue to use Adobe Captivate Classic for such simulations.

@@CaptivateTeacher thank you so much for this reply. I will reach out to Adobe about this as it's a dealbreaker for creating Excel simulations that teach "Absolute Cell References." Alternatively, do you think it's possible for me to use Classic for simulations that include "Absolute Cell References" and then bring that into the new Captivate to make edits or add other slides?
