The new Amazon Kindle can finally be recommended for serious readers. It has a sunken e-paper display with 300 PPI high-resolution, 16 GB, up to six weeks of battery life on a single charge, and USB-C charging. It is a recommended e-reader for audiobooks, books and manga.

@@raskarl The biggest reason is the flush glass screen - I want the screen to be recessed because of how I prefer to hold the device while reading and turn the pages. Especially with the smaller bezels, I need my wide thumb to be able to hang part way over the screen without actually touching it. This new basic kindle finally has everything else I need with 300ppi, a light, and audiobook support, and has a higher refresh rate than the paperwhite gen 2 I currently have. So this is the one for me!

@@raskarl And I should also add that my biggest gripe about the recent generations of paperwhites is the shiny silver kindle branding at the bottom. It constantly pulls my ADHD eyes down to it while I’m reading, but on my current paperwhite and this new kindle the word “kindle” blends in with the rest of the body of the device and disappears.

@@gnocchidokie sound reasoning. I also don't like the bold Kindle branding. I got ordered the paperwhite 11th gen myself but sent it back today because of that. Also I don't think it's worth it versus my kindle Oasis 3

I got it yesterday. I also got a Paperwhite along with it. The Paperwhite is great. But I liked how light and small the basic is! And the sunken screen with 300ppi resolution oh man! It's just perfect!

I have and love my new Paperwhite, but I do like that the basic is finally getting nice upgrades... main thing for me... that color. Would love more color options across the Kindle lineup other than black.

I think this is a great starter kindle. For most people this is has all the features anyone would ever need. I got the paperwhite in December for two reasons, I already had a couple kindle books from when I used my mom's kindle keyboard, and it was the only Kindle with usb-c. I love the paperwhite but looking at this, I would also love the basic as well. I do wish it had the orange lights, only real gripe though.

I owned the 2018 kindle Paperwhite and 6" is too small for mangas, now I have the signature edition and it is great, obviously the new 10" Kindle Oasis will be the best option for manga.

I’m crazy but I’m actually going to get this and trade in my paper white I got early this year. I love the light form factor too and size. I love reading Manga too so I know this will still work for me! Plus 16GBs too?! Sold!❤

i have ordered my 1st kindle. i am a book reader that i will miss probably is the book mark and physically turning pages.but i know i will love it! also ihave restricted eye sight so the light and font is a plus for me. i hope there is a book mark for me to use to see where i left off.

I basically have all the kindles but am getting rid of some to clean the closet if that makes sense. I love the basic small size and cheap pricing cuz it makes it easy to carry around. The Paperwhite is fine for a Bag or a Purse since portable but less likely to be brought around. The oasis I needs that USB C update to compete and the Kindle Scribe is my favorite but it’s not as portable. I use it for note taking In school and my work as well as book notes for reviews, love it and it’s useful just wouldn’t take it with me on my trip to Japan

The power button position really annoys me. I keep accidentally pushing mine when reading because the bottom of the Kindle is resting on my fingers.

I'm actually really tempted to get this instead of the new Paperwhite, that denim color gets me so hard! The problem for me is the sunken screen I personally hate because gets dirty so easily and the lack of warm light. I'm currently with the 2018 PPW, and wondering about the upgrade. Nice review as always ❤️

I just got the 2021 Paperwhite and although I really like the warm lighting I still prefer the smaller form factor of the previous 2018 version with the 6in screen. It's just smaller lighter and easier to hold on one hand.

I'm actually excited about seeing the new Oasis. At this rate USB type C is a given for it. But I'm hoping they upgrade the battery to be on pare with the Paperwhite and Basic models.

I was expecting a bit more concise review, highlighting the new stuff. A lot of the things you mentioned have been there for years. Anyway, the device seems good but I still don't see a reason while my old device still works fine.

I have the Paperwhite and plan on getting this just because it’s more portable and more comfortable to hold while lying in bed. I’ll still keep my Paperwhite in case I really want to use the warm light on it, though.

How well can you do with pdf books on it ? And please don't give me that ,,bigger screen is better" stuff. Everyone knows about it. I just want something cheap and good enough at the same time to cope with some pdf books I have and need to read. IPhones or PC screens don't cut it for me. Too much color and distraction

It may look like a paperwhite 3 but it's actually quite a bit better than that. It has the new processor the paperwhite 5 has, it has double the ram of the paperwhite 3 and 4 times the storage. The front light is better and this has the carta 1200 display as opposed to the Carta HD which means this display can display more gray levels at a time and refreshes much faster and doesn't always need to refresh the entire screen either, not to mention the increase in ppi. It really is an improvement on the 2015 paperwhite 3 but in that familiar form factor that people seem to really like.

*BUYER BEWARE!* Amazon are selling the Kindle 2022 purportedly “without ads”, yet these devices clearly contain advertising in the form of lists on the home screen headed (and I quote), “Discover Books”, “Try Unlimited Reading & Listening”, “New releases in Kindle Store”, “Books that look great on Kindle” and “Most wished for Kindle books”. This is a clear cut case of false advertising, attempting to sell devices labelled, “without advertising” that clearly, and by the definition of the Law, contain large quantities of advertising.
