I think he's trying to see how much power he can have over you. Each time he becomes more controlling. First he bites without asking, second he deamdns yiu on your knee and grabs your throat, third he grabs and denies you. There is no sweetness about it. Just power play.

Spawn Astarion deserves more love, he's the only one they've given only one animation, although it's sweet. On the other hand the ones of Gale, Wyll and Halsin are super cute, and Karlach's new kiss made me smile.

You can tell they had fun animating their personalities in these kisses. Karlach in particular i felt in my heart, knowing she hasn't been able to touch anyone until now, she really is revelling in the romance she shares with TAV. Affectionate, passionate and gentle. The intimacy is shines through the animation, Larion should be proud 🥲!

Gosh interactions with Karlach are absolutely adorable. The one with the leaning foreheads against one another and the one with kisses to her cheek, nose and forehead are a beautiful sign of playfulness, adoration and love-- something that I very often do with my own partner whom he finds them 'cute'.

I am so glad Gale's kiss got updated as he desperately needed it, was about do to a SH origin playthrough with him as my romantic partner, but the short peck he always used to give was throwing me off compared to some of the others (especially Halsin.) Now, i can finally start that playthrough

I know the AA fans are split about his new kisses (some love them, some hate them) but to me it really fits the impressions I got from him... and I'm glad Larian went harder into the dominant, slightly sadistic direction rather than making him softer (i.e. more like Spawnstarion). It's not supposed to be a happy go lucky love story post-ascension but rather a dark, more extreme, kinda tragic situation you can either embrace fully, be wary about but still appreciate the drama factor, or step away from. Unrelated to the above: my favourite new kisses are Gale's and Halsin's :3 (really wish I could have them for my own Tav without needing mods to swap models but alas I'm just a lowely console peasant and that won't happen)

My issue with it is when he makes tav a spawn, you can ask him to either be gentle or make it hurt, proving he is capable of both and they originally gave the player a choice. I feel his kiss style should be tied to whether you chose gentle or make it hurt, so that at the end of the day every player can just be happy because real life sucks and fantasy games should be just that, in my opinion.

Some people here have a more defiant or even evil tav and being scared of astarion even if they willingly made the choice to be his spawn is a bit....out of character. It's even weirder with DU... Like, yeah the relationship is not healthy, but they could have a more defiant / neutral expression. ^^'

Astarion IS toxic. Even as Spawn. Just because Spawn is a well-hidden act (a "theatre with mask on" as opposed to Ascendant "opera with mask off" - as Neil put it) doesn't make him any less problematic. It's either this power-imbalance BDSM or co-dependency and gaslighting/fakeness of Spawn; It's just which matter of bad romance dynamics you prefer: brutal honestly or sweet lie. For non-toxic partners should have gone with Gale, Karlach or Wyll 🤷🏻♀️

@@Deadpan_Snarker I don’t know. In my opinion there is a huge Gap between Ascended Astarion and the Spawn one. Especially in the end. He has his package and comes with his quirks that’s true. And he is not comparable to Gale when it comes to a healthy self respect for example. But the amount of progress if you don’t let him ascend and constantly try to do the right things is remarkable. I’m playing a Durge campaign rn and try to resist the urge and be as good as possible and in act three he approves of a lot of things he would’ve never in Act one. Actually almost every time I’m helping someone. Also he is one of the companions who is actually thanking you all the time and he even admits that he’s glad that you stopped him from ascending (if you do), because it would have basically made him pure evil like Cazador. So… Spawn Astarion is thankful, kind, accepts your wishes etc.

@valkyrieofgloom3324 Exactly, and all the more toxic behaviors that AA displays are the actions Astarion would do in the beginning, but amplified by 100. Larian and the writers have pointed this out about AA when this came up, but when you don't Ascend him, Astarion as a spawn begins to heal and gets better and is more accepting of Tav doing good deeds then he was before.

So, I was midway through play through and had no clue this patch was coming. Imagine my giddy, gleeful surprise when going in for a kiss with my spawn Astarian… I lost my mind for a moment and now here I am, finding all these cuyes new kisses. I do SO wish we had more sweet and tender Astarian kisses! Or one a little more teasing like some of gale’s kisses, or the little twirl kiss with Wyll! SO CUTE The AA kisses though just have me all the more solidified on my ick for AA… my soft sweet boi is my favorite. The way he reacts to genuine sweet romance is just… *chefs kiss* Meanwhile, AA be over here acting like all the shitty boyfriends of the past, come back to haunt me tenfold.

Damn, Minthara and Shadowheart got those upgrades! I just started romancing Selune Shadowheart, absolutely love them! Gale also got a massive buff in them animations! Thank you Larian! And Thank you Dark Urge Diaries for making these videos! I love your content and love the things you do! Also, I'm sortuva Shadowheart simp, so I honestly can't wait for her when the time comes! Also, I do have a request for a Tav/Durge Companion for Shadowheart, if you're needing ideas, unless you already have something planned for her, but this is just in case. How about a Dark Urge Dragonbonr whose constantly trying to fight against the Dark Urge and turn Shadowheart away from being a Dark Justicar. Here's what you could go off of, he could be a Gold Dragonborn, Cleric of Selune (That way it adds a little bit of Drama between Shadowheart and a Selunite, Also, romancing Shadowheart as a Selunite is well worth it). As for how he looks, I'll leave that to you. But again, this is just an idea. Not necessarily a request by any means. Thank you for these videos again!

For Ascended Astarion's new kissing animations, it isn't the animations that annoys me. It's Tav's facial expressions. My Dark Urge characters who romance Ascended Astarion typically are into receiving pain, and even tells Astarion to make their turning hurt. it would be out of character for my Durge characters to make those facial expressions during those new animations.

This! I love how dark they made the kiss, but Tav's/Durge's reaction throws me for a loop. My Tav would be scared and depressed, but my Durge would be so into it. I hope they can make a change so if you respond with be gentle or make it hurt you're reactions will change based on the chose made.

Nah, the point of being a sub is to LOOK like a sub. AA doesn't want Tav to look like they are enjoying it.. He KNOWS Tav is, but appreciates the 😢performance.

I agree. Even if they didn't make 2 different sets of animations and have it flagged by a specific dialogue choice, just changing the main character's facial expression during those kisses to a really creepy smile would work fine. Durge has tons of creepy smile animations they can use.

Even before Ascention and even in Spawn ending its pretty explicitly stated that Astarion is a sadist: from his remarks during combat, to him saying he killed someone in the Underdark just to watch them die, to how much he enjoys violence, what he does even as Spawn - killing others but it's ok because it's 'bad' guys' so that makes murder ok.👌 Damn, even the Abdirak scene says it all or how he says imagining the screams when he gets to Cazador makes him happy - you have to be blind not to see that he has some sadistic traits. Ans he might not be a fucked up sadist, but it's clear as day is that he enjoys seeing someone's suffering and high chances are that what he enjoys in MC's dynamics and maybe they play along to his sadism. Hence why I'm not particularly completely put off by these kisses: you can interpret them as MC knowing what he loves and playing along to what he likes.

I cannot wait to see the vids you make swapping in Gortash, Raphael, etc. to these different kisses to tell a story which you're so amazing at. There are also morphic pool kiss animations, but I haven't seen them yet (I can't even get into my game right now actually). I know that the high hall and before final battle kisses are still broken, so gotta get in all your loving before the pool confrontation lol
