The All Season Solar Cooker blew us away. It cooked a 3.5 pound whole chicken in 3 hours, and it was Good! This is a very versatile unit which can be used whenever the sun is shining. this is different than most solar cookers which are only useful during the strong midday sun.
Included with your purchase is the yellow/reflective box itself, metal trivet, sundial peg, hardware, and complete illustrated instructions. Assembly is just a few minutes, piece of cake.
You need to buy a BLACK roasting pan, 3 or 4 qt size. You also need to buy Two (2) Pyrex glass mixing bowls, 4 qt size. Must be Pyrex, not plastic.
Optionally, you can use 'oven roasting bags' but they won't last as long and aren't as efficient at keeping in the heat.
The All Season Solar Cooker website is filled with good info that I won't repeat here, please go check it out.
This demo takes place in Southern California in July. The designer has told me that he's used it in snowy mountains at 6,000 feet and it worked perfectly. He also has a story of someone cooking bread in February in Seattle. These are very durable, his personal demo unit is over 8 years old and still cooking!
Note that solar cooking is more like 'crockpot' cooking; it's slower than normal cooking but is gentler and the food stays very moist and delicious. Solar is an AWESOME tool to have when the SHTF as you don't have to use up all your propane or chop down every tree in sight.
Stay tuned as we try other recipes in the future!
