Mortal Kombat 1 is a fighting game developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Games. It will be the twelfth main installment in the Mortal Kombat series, serving as both a sequel to Mortal Kombat 11 (2019) and the series' second reboot, following Mortal Kombat (2011). The game is set to be released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S on September 19, 2023.
Mortal Kombat 1 has been confirmed to feature a story mode, online multiplayer with rollback netcode, and offline gameplay. The game will introduce a feature called Kameo Fighters, which will provide assistance to the player during fights. These characters will be separate from the main roster, and chosen before each fight. Additionally, the Air Kombat combo system which was featured in both Mortal Kombat: Armageddon and the action spin-off Shaolin Monks returns, and is being refined for this game.
As of the game's announcement date, it has been revealed to feature reimagined versions of characters such as Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Johnny Cage, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena and Kenshi. Shang Tsung will be offered as a pre-order bonus. Six additional characters and five kameo fighters are planned for post-launch release via the "Kombat Pack" downloadable content, which also includes a skin for Johnny Cage featuring the likeness of Jean-Claude Van Damme.

These test your might moments in the story mode are good but I am confused at the one where scorpion getting his head in lava and how he can't touch hot stuff even though he has fire powers and he is also known for having a skull so I don't really see why failing that would kill scorpion

This Scorpion is Kuai Liang and has never been a specter, so he does not have access to their powers. In the MKX comics it is explained that Hanzo is no longer a specter but can still access his powers in case he feels that someone important to him is in danger (or something like that) that's why in MKX and MK 11 he has spectrum powers
