@bjquebedeaux3597 as a veteran, i can tell you truthfully that patriotism is overrated and is objectively the same thing as nationalism. Everyone loves "patriots" until we are living on the streets while our cities give literal free housing and money to illegal immigrants. But hey, at least i have heroin and meth to right?

Idk. Do you think if Finn & Phil had the experience of someone kicking in their door and putting a bullet through the face of their wives and children they'd be so giddy and jovial about a person who spent a decade calling that a hoax. I mean, these fuckers were grotesque in their appreciation of Alex Jones. Finn & Phil can go fuck themselves. I was very close to a Sandy Hook victim and im aware of the toll its taken. The dude has a pregnant wife. Maybe he might feel different if someone murdered them and a media dickhead called it a hoax and his followers harassed him for a decade. "But memes are great aren't they? " Idk. He is all about the bag. Maybe he would?

So crazy to me how divided metalheads and punks used to be, they really seem to go hand in hand nowadays, which I prefer, especially musically! It's always a great combo 🤘🏻
@60degreelobwedge82
@60degreelobwedge82 Жыл бұрын
It was only divided because both scenes were still underground and the main entry point was through a personal invite. To be into both punk and metal you would have needed punk friends to expose you to the punk scene and metal friends to expose you to the metal scene.
@dylantech
@dylantech Жыл бұрын
@@60degreelobwedge82 I’d think it has more to do with both genres having fallen from favor, meaning both communities now share the outskirts of the music scene, which unites them as opposed to sowing the division begotten by positioning for dominance. Basically, people are more easily able to unite along their similarities when identifying a common external threat, what has become the popular music and normie scene in this case.

I appreciate you putting this interview out here for us Finn, and I'm also a little saddened that there's ongoing litigation with Oli's death that doesn't allow room for discussion. The one time I saw All That Remains, Oli was playing guitar, and I remember he his hair was very long and getting blown around and caught on the low-ceiling rafters. He also fucking shredded, and to think he played for 30 years, saw Jason Richardson at age 17 and said "this kid is better than I will ever be" what a humble guy, and I'm blessed that I got to see him perform. Much love Finn, and Phil is actually a teddy-bear! Love this interview. ❤

Hey finn just wanted to thank you for having Phil on. I've like all that remains for years but never really delve too deep into them past the music. I've seen Phil on Tim Pool so I know roughly where he stood on issues. But I really enjoyed this interview it felt really relaxed and down to earth. Like 2 guys just talking about things in a way that makes sense. As a more conservative/liberatrian leaning person I agree with a lot of what was said here particularly with regards to being an individual in these times of tribalism.

I was fortunate to book these guys a couple times at our club, the last time being just a few months before Olli's passing. Phil was always gracious and engaged with our staff, a lot of whom on security/loading teams are veterans. It's nice to know there are legit personalities in the industry and can have adult conversations with folks they do not agree on 100% of topics about.

Man, the "99% of what I get is The Fall of Ideals was great and everything else sucks" hit pretty hard. I've messed with and talked with Phil for many years on my non-anonymous accounts on Twitter/Facebook, he knows who I am(which is likely why he even bothered to respond rather than just ignoring it and moving on) and I said that to him once and his response crushed me. It REALLY made me feel like shit because he just simply said "Oli is dead man, it can't ever happen again." I think for a moment I forgot Phil is just another dude roaming the planet trying to figure everything out. I then apologized profusely for being an asshole and Phil being the good dude he is, just said "it's alright. Let's move on." I align with him politically on about 70% of things so I never really came from that angle but if there's anything anyone can learn from this stupid KZfaq comment, it should be to remember that these guys and gals are human, with thoughts and feelings just like the rest of us. We are one.

I had been wishing later albums touched closer to TFOI for a long time but after some time they’ve grown on me. Overcome and For We Are Many are both truly great albums. FWAM is unfortunately very underrated. I remember this coming out around the same time as Rise Against’s Endgame which ,while in another musical world entirely, I also wasn’t very receptive to at first. Going back and listening to both now gives me foot in mouth disease since they’re great albums. We also have to consider physical limitations as our favorite artists age and their ideals or interests change too.

32:10 Agreed, and I believe the explosion of talent comes from listening to music that is perfectly engineered, removing "mistakes"/adding quantization/etc. If I'm not mistaken Tim Henson said that when he writes, he'll use effects in Ableton first, and then attempt to practice the part he created organically, WITH the effects...basically thinghsg no human could come up with. Loved this! One thing i do want to bring up though is phils analogy on homeless with relation to addiction. I work with people with substance abuse problems (addictions) and im not expecting everyone to have the same opinions and definitely not the same experiences as I first of all. No addict wishes to be an addict so making out like its as simple as just stopping seriously oversimplifies the issue at hand. Most addicts have had childhood trauma, abuse throughout there lives, have gotten in with gangs or have had it administratered to them by spouses/caregivers while they sleep. So while i understand what he means, its a gross oversimplification of the problem.

16:55 i’d sit here an argue over whether property rights make you want to be productive, but you can’t point to intentionally defunded social programs and tell me the privatization of industries like health care and rail make them any better. You also can’t convince me that the amount we subsidize and bail out big business in this country doesn’t feel like I am being robbed out of my pockets just so I can price gouged by the same guy I just paid to stay afloat. I like libertarians, because they intrinsically understand the problems with bad government. It’s frustrating though when the only solution is “well don’t bail them out this time”, and don’t regulate them. We’ve been cutting back regulation since the 1950’s ever since the New Deal ended, it’s only been making it worse. When we bail them out there are no consequences for those involved or any look at regulations that lead to banks having to default. Meanwhile, people with capital ratchet up their wages and lower yours by gutting unions and shipping jobs overseas. The conclusion the leftist has made was that another New Deal wouldn’t make a difference, and all those social democracies in Europe won’t last. Nobody who is a serious leftist should pretend that New Deal America or Social Democracy Europe in perpetuity is the actual goal. Social democracies always backslide because of the interests of Capital. The reason why all of the kids are leftists is because on average we are horrifically poor or our hard fought wealth is precarious, and we want to know why.

Love Phil. He's always his own man & is truly a free thinker. Great chat. Packaged non conformity- soooo true!! And yes, people don't want to do hard things or face reality.

The ones that don't profess they are a free thinker are usually, the free thinkers! So yes I agree!

I was hooked that first minute! Deeper interviews and bigger guests constantly, nice work. Never realized how many views I shared with Phil. He's just using common since which is ironically quite scarce today.

I’d say he’s wrong about everything as far as his views about the left but he’s entitled to his opinion. It was still cool to hear about the music and history of the scene though.

Phil is awesome, super talented & an independent thinker!! I've seen him on Timcast IRL & found him to be a thoughtful, rational voice of reason & freedom. Thanks for having him on!! 💯 👍😍

Use to love the mixed genre shows back in the day. Remember lupos in ri seeing Type o,life of agony, v.o.d and crisis Other show was axis in Boston seeing Misfits (Graves era),Anthrax, cannibal corpse and life of agony. Miss those style shows . Saw and became fans of bands I never would have know but then I wasn't for those shows

Saw shadows fall at warped tour in Springfield MA before All that remains wayyyyyyy back. Phil was new to shadows Fall then, and I remember saying this to my buddy there; "Wtf is Godsmack? Why doesn't Massachusetts look more at THIS?" lol. God I'm old. 👏 great interview/chat guys!
