Favorite nonfiction of the year (and pretty high on the list of all time favorites) was Surprised by Oxford by Carolyn Weber. Beautiful memoir story of coming to Christ, that reads like a novel. Just so so good. Favorite Christian Fiction was The Lady and the Lionheart by Joanne Bischof. This story got me. It is historical romance but so so beautiful and heart wrenching in a good way and a beautiful representation of the Gospel. Be sure to read the Author’s note at the end. 😆

Definitely added some of these to my ever-growing TBR. Some of my favorite Christian nonfiction books from this year were: Another Gospel by Alisa Childers, the Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and Gentle and Lowly by Dane Ortlund. Happy New Year!

Oh my gosh, thank you!! I don’t think I’ve read any Christian mysteries so that’s something I definitely should try reading this year! I’ve heard good things about Nancy Mehl!

I can’t remember if there was much strong language in it, I’m not the best at chronicling that aspect in books. Hopefully there’s not too much and that you like it!!

One of my favorite books of 2023 was Every Woman a Theologian by Phylicia Masonheimer. It gave me a lot of things to think about and look into during my Bible time. I also just started Holy Hygge by Jamie Erickson, and if the first couple chapters are any indication of how I'm going to feel about the rest of the book, it's going to be a 5-star read. I'm just really wanting to focus on slowing down, enjoying the small things, and being more intentional with my time this year, and I'm hoping this book will help with that.

Those both sound so so good! I completely agree with that heart posture of slowing down and enjoying the small things! I love books that can remind me to do that ❤️

Please don’t stop recommending books! Not too many Christian KZfaqrs do, also that are aligned with my beliefs. Thoughts on Powerless by Lauren Robert’s? I just finished Wingless Bird by Catherine Cookson.

Loved this! Thanks, Kendra. You always give me such good ideas for books to read. I’m not sure if you ever read historical fiction. I’ve watched all your book review videos, but can’t remember for sure. If you’re interested, I just finished The Little Liar, Mitch Albom’s latest book, and it was one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s about the holocaust and I really thought it was good timing for what’s going on in the world today.

I read Magpie Murders years ago and remember liking it. A Quiet Retreat sounds good. I love when people are trapped in a location. In books, not in real life😆

You’d probably love Moonflower Murders too! I think I liked it even better than Magpie! And that gave me a chuckle… trapped in books… not real life 🤣🤣

I really think you'd enjoy Heather Webber books! I guess they'd be considered magical realism where they have supernatural aspects but nothing creepy or overwhelming. I read a few of hers last year and they were all my favorites for the year! Very cozy 🥰

Read any by Julie Kramer. She’s my cousin. She writes about real stuff and she’s done stuff with The Today Show. I think you’d like her books. She’s kind of a mystery writer. I loved Jinger’s book. I need to read Jill’s but don’t own it yet. Julie writes murder mystery too.

Should you be reading murder books as a Christian?
@_KendraChristine6 ай бұрын
That’s an interesting question… the first thing that came to mind was if Christian’s shouldn’t read about murder, then we can’t read the Bible. And most fictional books that have murder as a plot, the point isn’t the murder, the point is finding justice. But every Christian should listen to their convictions! And I won’t finish a book if I feel it goes against my convictions as a Christian
