I love long wrapups! I'm so glad I didn't pick up nestlings for the same reason you didn't quite enjoy it. Maybe one day but I'm pretty burned out on the motherhood trope 😅
@ErinMegan5 ай бұрын
Oh good 😅 yeah the motherhood trope is just something I can’t quite ever enjoy. I need to stop buying those books. 🙃

I hated nestlings lol it was a 2 star for me. I didn't like the maidens and didn't care to read the fury but I loved the silent patient by him, that was a 5 star read for me . Maybe try that one if you want😊
@ErinMegan5 ай бұрын
Nestlings being a 2 star is very appropriate imo. 🤣 I’ve been meaning to give the silent patient a read! Everyone seems to love that one the most, maybe third times the charm?😅

So glad you enjoyed Out There. I’m not a sci-fi girly either but I’d say that collection is “speculative” which I really love, which brings together weird/horror/fantasy/scifi in a really readable way 🙌🏻

I’m not a big fan of speculative usually either, so it’s wild that out there worked for me so well!!

Nice surprise in my notifications, I’ve been waiting for your wrap up. I follow you on Goodreads, and sometimes you’ll be in my feed and you read a book I have and I look forward to your reviews. 😊 I’m reading Voices in the Snow today, my first Darcy! But here’s what I want to know, is it scary? I want scary, I don’t see anyone mention that in reviews. And should I reserve the second book in my library, am I going to need to know what happens next right when I finish? I loved The Quiet Tenant. I really feel like it’s a story about women, if not for the creepiness in the captivity I almost feel like it’s literary fiction. I have a hard time saying it’s a thriller, there’s no twist, does a thriller have to have a twist? It’s a character study on the man, but it’s also very much about women and how we deal. I’m a woman, I’ve probably mentioned this but don’t expect you to remember, my kid took over my account and I haven’t taken the time to move everything over to a new one, I’ve had this account so long 😢..but I related to so much of the book, luckily I haven’t been in that situation, but even from the first page, how some men can try to mold and own women, I thought it was very powerful, and so impressive that English isn’t the authors first language! I recently watched Satan Wants You..it’s on Tubi. I thought I knew so much about the satanic panic, but I knew none of this, the documentarians got in touch with so many people that have never spoken publicly, it was fascinating. It’s about the book Michelle Remembers, which I’ve heard of, and that it was a part of the panic, but that was about it. You might enjoy it, it got no hype when it came out sadly. Afterwards of course I had to listen to all the interviews with the creators, just so interesting how deeply society can be effected by something and how far it can spread.

I really recommend Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent! The plot synopsis doesn't say much but it's actually like The Quiet Tenant except way better in my opinion 😊

I loved Out There when I read it a few years ago as well! Such a great short story collection. I should really do a reread of that one!

This is one of the few short story collections that calls to me, I almost never read them. I have read some of At Home with the Horrors and I’ve been so pleasantly surprised with how much I love them.

I also thought Mary was better than Nestlings but enjoyed them both. Too bad the reveal of Five Total Stransgers was not great but I also loved No Exit and Survive the Night so I might pick it up. Tastes Like Candy was a lot of fun. And all I wanted from a slasher in a carnival 😅

I think five total strangers is still worth a read, it was a quick easy read! Haha tastes like candy was such a ride! 😂

@@ErinMegan I have read Four found Dead and I think it is the same author and it was a bit of a let down but also a fast paced book. I just heard that Tastes like candy 2 will come out this April and I am so ready

I'm in the minority, but I did not care for Mary. However, I actually LOVED Nestlings and it was in my top five books of 2023. I find it so interesting how books reach (or don't reach) people in so many different ways. And, as always, I love your makeup!

That’s so interesting! I also love seeing how people feel so differently about the same books, it’s wild! Thank you so much 🥰

Your hair looks good!! I am reading a good cozy mystery! It’s called Moving is Murder by Nellie Steele. I love it! They need to make a movie. She writes ghostly cozies and clean romance all kinds. Check her out

Nestlings is shockingly similar to lock every door. I read nestlings before i read lock every door, and i feel like i was able to predict everything that was going to happen because i read nestlings and the books were just sooo similar. It felt like someone read lock every door and rewrote it changing some bits and characters but essentially the stories felt exactly the same. Both were not good and had stupid endings, but i can at least appreciate that nat cassidy is a much better writer than riley and at least tried to do something somewhat creative with the ultimate place the story goes but ultimately both sucked for me i just hated lock every door a lot more.
@ErinMegan5 ай бұрын
Haha I’m the opposite! I much preferred lock every door to this one. I liked the twists better and the overall plot better.
