The 2023 UCI Gravel World Championships saw road riders mixing with gravel professionals and even a few influencers.
It was also a hotbed of new bikes and hacks that would be more at home on the Sunday club ride than chasing a rainbow jersey.
In this video we run you through all the key tech trends that we saw from the men’s and women’s races in Veneto, Italy.
What was your favourite tech nugget from the race? Let us know in the comments 👇

What was your favourite tech nugget from the race? We would definitely like a go on Rane's bike 🤑🤑Let us know what you think in the comments 👇

This is far more interesting than looking at tech at the Tour de France with all the vastly different set ups and the whole jerry riggedness of it.

Would have liked the video better if Rane Roatta was left out of it. Someone who rides in a car for part of a race (Unbound) and then later rides across the finish line doesn't sit well with me. No problem with the riding in the car to get your bike fixed at a checkpoint but crossing the finish line (acting like you completed the whole race) turns you into a cheater no matter how much you say it turned into a training ride after the mechanical.

That guy Rane didn't even compete with the elites but in the Gran Fondo category M19-34. And not very fast judging from the results... no surprise with such a dangerous setup 😱 Safe to say he didn't take a taxi 😉

Great video. Delving into tech for any race is great, I hope you could do something similar for XCO MTB as well. This gravel track was better imo.

I stick with SPD so I can get gravel shoes to be able to comfortably walk in! If you're racing that's different, of course, but I don't want road shoes to be off the bike with.
@bikeradar
@bikeradar 8 ай бұрын
It really depends on where you ride. The majority of racers will likely remain clipped in from start to finish and conditions were perfectly dry. If you'll do any walking/pushing or conditions are muddy then MTB pedals and shoes will likely serve you better

I put on 38 cm wide handlebars on a road/gravel/city (pick one) bike and it has way less leverage than a 42. For good steering abilities a 42 cm is a must for gravel paths. And at least 32 mm tires. 28 just don't give you enough support in loose turns.

That 23-cm bar is ridiculous. It contradicts the concept of a gravel bike where you have normal-size drop, bar with a flare for better stability and control. How much stability and control gives this almost TT-narrow bar?

Most of it makes sense. I think the pedals are a matter of habit. Not sure if the power transfer is better.
@bikeradar
@bikeradar 8 ай бұрын
My wording of that might have been a tad off. Likely that the pro road riders prefer the stability and float that they're used to with their road pedals. When you're putting out that much power for 5 hours, it matters...I guess 😂 Liam

I am sure it does. I think I might actually wanna try too someday. I just find it practical to have one system for all bikes and walking with SPD-SL is unsexy at the very least. Regarding btires I wonder wether WVA choice might have affected his puncture: 35mm Terreno Zero probably had too much pressure for this kind of course. Just my 2c.@@bikeradar
