The challenges I had changed who I was and how I processed information and led me to become the dog trainer that I am today. I’ve shared more in a video here on KZfaq - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kNWceZaVz8rOZI0.html

I am so interested in knowing about the potential nutritional problems for This!, as I suspect my dog had the exact same problem. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it all, and I'm very excited for that episode! 😋

OMG, looking at those comments on your report cards, how many horrible teachers did you come across??? They sure rocked in calligraphy, but clearly not their jobs 🤦‍♂ Everything you said made so much sense. I used to think my dog was so smart or so stupid depending on the day and what I asked of her (tho she way more often smart than stupid), and I realize now, it was me being stupid or stupid, either over-reading her behavior or under-reading it, but definitely ignoring her side and the communication aspect of it.

My then teenager stopped shouting when I told her she was scaring the dog. Me simply asking her to stop was patently ineffective. Thanks for another great video. Many points for me to consider so this will be one I will watch a few times. ✅👍⭐️

This is so true and needed for us to remember, especially on the not so good days. It’s so easy to rely on those labels rather than to stop and figure out what my dog is trying to say to me. Just the other day, my 16 wk old puppy was “acting out”. I stopped and realized we were too busy that day and he had just finished his puppy class. He was up all afternoon instead of sleeping for all of it! Immediately I realized he didn’t need to stay up his usual social time around supper, his need to sleep hadn’t been met and I should have been more attentive to his need. When I lead him into the room with his kennel/den, he ran in it and laid out flat on his blankets. He was fast asleep under 2 mins! I felt so bad. However; I was also very thankful for your teaching Susan, and the fact that I was able to figure out exactly what was going on and the solution in an instant, instead of complaining about my ornery dog. Thank you for teaching us HOW to build a much better relationship with our fur babies! ❤🐾🐾♥️

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Very timely Susan! Wow! What a story about discovering your learning style and the eventual solution! The “professionals” can be so darn arrogant and cause much damage to people, especially when they make assumptions think they know better. Thank you for your solid advice and sharing about This! She’s a sweetie! My boy Zeke was suddenly having a hard time settling. We figured out he was lactose intolerant, after a few sleepless days of diarrhea, so any cheese or even his goat’s milk treats were bad news! However, even once he was comfortable, he wasn’t sleeping as much as he should for a pup. He didn’t have the usual attention span or enthusiasm for our games. I kept watching and reviewing things. Turns out that his kennel was too close to the main living area and even in our bedroom, he was too concerned about following what his peeps were doing, he wasn’t getting any quality sleep. I decided to put his kennel in the den where he gets tucked away, or I can shut the door. He gets to hang out and chill with us as we sit at the desk doing computer work for a couple of hours. Well it’s now known as Zeke’s room. He sleeps soundly through the night now…. I play relaxing “puppy therapy” music on an app for him all night long. He is in a really great mood when he wakes from his nap now and there are less and less bitey face episodes! He’s our Mr Kissy face puppers again! Lol. We never had a dog (our own or visiting) who couldn’t settle in our room or in the usual spot. It goes to show that all our fur babies are individuals, and like the humons, we need to treat them as individuals. Take in the generalities but then get to know your pup. Thank You for another great podcast jam packed with excellence!

THANK YOU for the checklist 😁 I would love to hear more about trying to find the right nutrition for my dogs. I know different dogs need different things but would enjoy more education on it. I'm challenged with an itchy GSD puppy (which I think may have been associated with vaccines she had) but want to work on best nutrition to support her in trying to get through this. Oh and I am LOVING your Recallers program. It has positively changed our lives and our dogs 😍

My 13 year old nephew is diagnosed as dyslexic when he was younger. I tell his parents a lot about you and they love to hear about what I learn from you. (They are all Christians like you. :)) Thank you, Susan. I am feeding my dog the best food I could think of right now and of course I followed your advice on that too. What is lacking with the food you give them?

My dog is too pretty! My dog hates not saying good morning to me as soon as I wake up 😆 My dog can't .. Ok this one I have nothing, there is nothing she can't do! My dog is super social, friendly, loving, smart, still learning, progressing very well, amazing. One of the big influences I have noticed between her (Elsa) and my older BC (Seven) is how we have reacted to her bad moments. Seven we used some minor punishment, separation and telling him off, nothing serious, Elsa however we have somewhat embraced it, and turned it into a positive, there is always a way. Honestly, I think this is a huge leap forward in my training ability, its worked out much much more desirable in fostering her good habits. You talk about getting exercise and off leash, I live in Singapore, it is illegal to let a dog off leash outside of dog parks, however dog parks aren't a great place to train or realistically, often not good for socialisation (especially here) due to many owners not knowing how to train or handle, or simply not bothering to train or handle their dogs properly. I train them in my multi level carpark off leash on the quiet floors (I see 1/2 cars an hour and is very safe). Do you have any other suggestions which may help?

Hello, interesting podcast thanks. Would like to know about nutrition in general. You mention that you feed your dogs the best food money can buy. How do we figure out what is the “best” dog food? there are so many options in brands and of course types. Raw, dry etc. I have no idea how to figure out what would be the best.

Fun fact ADHD doesn't actually disappear... sort of. In some people it may improve as they mature - it's probably a combination of less severe symptoms, plus hormones, plus developing effective coping mechanisms. Hormones do seem to be an important factor in this, and when people with ADHD that disappeared or lessened as teens / young adults age it can reappear as these hormones start to wane. Menopause is supposed to be really rough on women with ADHD! Also your report cards look really similar to how mine did: ADHD with a side of dyslexia!

Glad you mentioned this @coor0kun. Also glad that Susan @DogsThat is aware of her own neurodivergent brain. Like attracts like, and Susan, I'd guessed that were ADHD by the end of the second podcast I watched ;^) I wasn't diagnosed w ADHD til age 62, the dyslexia remains undiagnosed (the words don't grow but I read one word at a time) - and I'm a physician! Learning lots here. Thank you.

Very insightful and helpful. I absolutely know, and have known from the start, that my pup's progress is/will be limited by my lack of experience and expertise. However, I am working on upping both of those and we will persevere together. I don't know if you have made the KZfaq for nutrition as yet. You mentioned an intent to produce a podcase/KZfaq regarding this important aspect of a pup's wellbeing and health. I will be very interested in your views. We have strong opinions, ourselves, on this subject.

I recently got an electric toothbrush that cleans itself sonically. It makes a high pitch sound that I can barely hear. I wondered if my dog could hear it too and was it irritating to her. I decided not to take the chance of making her environment uncomfortable.
