Absolutely the best tool box tour I have ever watched and I have watched thousands of them. Over an hour and never boared. The key is he didn't focus on the brand of every item. He did focus on describing the uses of some of the more uncommon items. He also told stories along the way about how he came to own or build some of the tools. Thank you both very much for this video.

I have been having an internal struggle over tool grid or Hanson racks. This is the first time seeing both in the drawer with the corner pieces locking them in. Absolutely brilliant ! Some stuff works best on the grid, others the trays work better... I think you just cost my wallet some money !!! Enjoyed this tool box tour. Thanks for sharing!

What an excellent explanation of the layout of the tools in this box plus an explanation of what certain tools do and a personal opinion based on experience of why one tool or brand of tool is better than another. And it wasn’t boring to watch. Once it started I couldn’t stop watching and seeing what he had and what he used things for. He is very much like me. Very neat and organized and I tend to save some tools just to have invade you need a cheap pos tool to make into a job specific tool on the fly rather than having to search for one to purchase or have if to wait for the tool guy to come to you. Loved this. I’m glad KZfaq put it in my feed to auto play after listening to someone explain a job on the previous video I searched .

This was great! The Allen key rant was hilarious😂. The one thing that I can add for the allen/hex keys is that a through down socket and a cut off tool is great in a pinch for a custom stubby socket and also a ratchet wrench can be helpful! Other than that Allen keys are paper weights!

I truly enjoy your long-form toolbox tours. I think it's the people who make them interesting, the tools are second in line. The T-handle hex key got my attention. I use them all the time. Why not a socket, as was preferred in the video? Imagine trying to reach a set screw on a pulley with a standard socket. Impossible. Imagine putting some mild torque on a screw a few inches away with either a socket or a standard hex key. How is that going to happen? Sure, longer sockets are available. Why do I need to buy more tools, when the already available solution is quick, easy, simple, and offers a fantastic tactile feel for the torque being applied. The latter is crucial. I don't work on vehicles, so the needs are different.

Nice collection man very beautiful history with it, the t handles and Allen wrenches are good tools for sacrificing and letting someone borrow if they need an Allen and in heavy duty sometimes u need the 45• Allen’s and I’ve had the snap on multi meter and the fluke same size they are the exact same lol but snap on one charges a premium on theirs st the end of the day tho if you have a good and fair tool guy I can understand why u buy a lot off of them.

If you don't mind modifying your toolbox a bit you can retro fit in a power drawer setup... I bought the charging bank that comes in the epic box power drawer and installed that in my drawer then I wired it up using a bulkhead going thru the back wall directly behind the drawer then on the inside of that bulkhead I put a retractable cord setup (made from a broken retractable extension cord) then a bulkhead into the back the the drawer ..you can't see a single wire or anything tacky looking like that works well...the retracing "spool"? Part needs to be small small... And I only wired like 1.5 foot of wire also.. it is also mounted to the back wall next to the locking bar.... I have a KRL 1023 btw

Why t-handle hex/torx/etc. drivers? Two main reasons I love my Bondhus sets: low-torque fasteners on plastic motorcycle body panels and fixture table setups. For the body panels I really like the precise feel of how tight I am turning them because those panels and clips break way too easily. For welding/fixture tables, the handles make a convenient tappy-tap-tapper for final alignment which a ratchet won't do.

I like Garrett saying the huge difference between the quality of professional and diy wrenches... I'm not sure about the tawainese ones or if any of those companies are professional because mattco and gearwrench both have overseas line of tools, but unless people have old USA craftsman and craftsman professional, old kobalt or western forge and Williams built wrenches than yes there is a major difference in the quality, fitment feel and finish of the professional wrenches.

Great tool box tour overall. But I don't understand the discussion about not using the T handle hex drivers at all. In some situations many torque isn't needed and these work much faster and easier. There are also some industries where simple tools work better instead of the same solution existing of several components.

Would love to see real tool box evaluation like this of the leading brands and types. Revel X versus 6S versus Mac versus Epiq....
@CoyleTools
@CoyleTools 2 жыл бұрын
This was a tour and not an eval or review, so we never addressed the box itself. Doing a review on all the different brands would require unprecedented access to a lot of guys' boxes. They're out there and I could probably swing it, but I think what you'd see is a lot of similarities, and not enough to make it interesting. You would see very few construction differences between the Revel, Macsimizer and the Epic, but maybe some small differences in the design elements, like where they put the external power outlets -- not if they have them because they all do. The build quality on all major brand boxes is very good. I've never seen a box fail structurally. The most wear I've ever seen is worn casters and drawer slides, and those can be easily replaced.
@buck6604
@buck6604 2 жыл бұрын
@@CoyleTools Still i do think it would be very interesting if done by your friend here. His honest evaluation of his own Snap On box and the benefits he feels it has offered him are what people considering an expensive tool truck box are interested in hearing. Seemingly minor aspects of each box may well be considered big by potential buyers and at $5K to $25K, these are very serious purchases for most people. The flush latching handles on the Epiq, the available mini center hutch on the Matco, the chamfered corners on the Revel. The closing of drawers and even the sounds they make.

You need to rely on your tool dealer. Some are terrific. Some others aren't.

Yes hex/Allen fasteners are about the worst but every one of those different tools has a specific task that it does best. I totally understand about T handles but I find that on small fasteners in small engines they are great because they flex enough that you can’t strip out threads or the hex drive and achieve a consistent torque. I haven’t found any other use for t handles.

No, tool truck brands price are soo marked up because the brand has to make money and the tool truck driver has to make their money. You can get tool truck brands like gearwrench, tekton, grey pneumatic, etc online for much cheaper price than the tool truck. What you said is true for the past market before the big online market. Now most brands put their tools online to make a little more profit by selling directly to the consumer/mechanics. So in today's market you can find the same tool or same quality tool for a much cheaper price than the tool truck.

@@CoyleTools talking about 22:15. Many brands are improving or making quality of tools to compete with truck tools such as snap-on, matco, and mac for a much much cheaper price and also with lifetime warranty.

@@Saladon89 That's true, but pro-grade is about more than the quality of the tool. There is (or should be) a considerable service component like convenience in having the truck come to your shop, warranty handling, consultation and knowledge you get from your dealer. Those things come with a premium price tag. A top-tier tool dealer is very valuable to a top-tier technician or shop owner. The industry works best when technicians and tool dealers help each other make money.

@@CoyleTools But the problem with tool trucks is that they dont appear everyday, maybe once or twice a week if theyre not ill, whereas a hardware store like harbor freight or home depot is open everyday and even more convenient if theres one close to the shop. Tool trucks use to be great for, but its dying out and are not as useful as they were b4. Theres hardware stores everywhere now. The tool truck era is almost over. Most of the customers are the old schoolers that were bred to shop from tool truckers.

@Saladon89 The tool truck era is almost over?!? Don't tell that to my customers, suppliers or my bank account. Business is thriving and there's plenty to go around for all the tool trucks in my area. Last I checked all the tool truck companies were dong pretty well and the dealers I know are all earning a healthy living. If stores on every corner and the Internet were a genuine threat, the tool truck industry would have folded many years ago. There are still plenty of reasons tool trucks are necessary. And if the day ever comes where that's not the case, I'll know before you do.
