I'm definitely going to look into ordering that jerky online! It's so simple and delicious. Side note: how do you use Butler soy curls? I tried making my own jerky once and it was a fail (because I burned them 😂). I always have them on hand but never know what to use them for.

@@TotallyForkable We mostly use them as a meat substitute in rice dishes. My wife is the expert. She'll marinate them different ways to taste like different things. For example, she might marinate them to taste like Korean style spicy pork. Or another time like beef for beef and broccoli or some stir fry type dish. We've also used them as taco meat. I always thought they would be too tough but the way she makes them, they come out fairly tender.

It sounds delicious! It seems like, similar to tofu, there's endless possibilities!

Whoa, I've never heard of the Bettah Cheddah but it sounds right up my alley! I'll definitely have to keep an eye out for it on my next visit. As much as I wish I could buy them in CT, it's such a treat knowing there are special vegan products I can *only* get in Maine 😊

Omg-I realized that’s the same place the owner of Curbside Comforts told me sells the Thrilling Foods bacon! We are definitely going to loop that into our next Portland visit 😊 There are also a few great-looking retro video game stores in Scarborough so my boyfriend is happy 😂

​@@neuftette Update: we made it to Lois! Sadly they were out of the Cheddah 😭 But I was very happy they had the Notcho and blueberry waffles in stock, so all was not lost! I was also able to get the Thrilling bacon. Here's hoping I can try the Cheddah soon! Edit: it turns out the retro game stores I found were in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada so my boyfriend was not happy about that 😭😂🤦🏻‍♀

@@TotallyForkable Ah bummer! I live in Oregon but grew up in Maine and visit 1-2 times a year and I always try to bring Notcho and Cheddah back with me. Not sure what other stores carry it but sometime I'll try to make it up to their Corinth location. The Bettah Cheddah is more of a cold dip and is very heavy on the tahini which I love.

Yes! The Portland of the east 😊 Although it would be great if I could drive to Portland, OR for dinner!

Oh, also 3 Dollar Deweys in Portland has a ton of vegan bar food. And Bissell Brothers brewery has a vegan cheesesteak sandwich that is made with mushrooms and is sooooo good.

And Slab in Portland makes my favorite vegan pizza in Maine.

OMG, thank you for these recs!! We always see people walking around with ice cream but it never occurred to us there might be an all-vegan place! Would be perfect for a post-dinner walk 🍦 Also, my boyfriend's mom found Slab when she was visiting a few years ago but we didn't go bc my bf wasn't eating gluten at the time. Basically we need to spend like 2 full days in Portland instead of a few hours haha.

​@@christinecaswell2740 update: we made it to Slab and Sticky Sweet. Slab had to be the best vegan pizza either of us had ever had. The Romesco was so astonishingly delicious I took a bite and said "Oh my god!!" which prompted my boyfriend to stop cutting the Sicilian and try the Romesco immediately 😂 The crust and tomato sauce on the Sicilian were also shockingly delicious. I didn't think we'd find a place that rivaled Green Elephant but we certainly did! We were not as keen on Sticky Sweet; maybe it was the flavor we had (pistachio) but there were a few things off for us--too rich (like basically seemed like straight frozen coconut cream), not crazy about the amount of pistachios and also didn't care for the almond extract flavor. It was SO cute though and I appreciate the concept just wish we liked the ice cream more! Thank you again for your recommendations; Slab is definitely now a must-stop destination for our Maine trips!
