Join licensed Xenoblade liker Luxin on a whirlwind crash course on the some of the best characters in the series through the lens of Smash Ultimate's Spirit system!
I've been planning this video since Ultimate first released, but decided to hold off because we might get a new Xenoblade character as DLC, and man am I glad that I did. After Pyra/Mythra got in I held off for the last character because there was always the small chance a Xenosaga rep was also added, which unfortunately didn't happen, but I won't complain too much.

With the Zeke spirit battle, I’ve actually had Cloud kill himself due to missing his Final Smash, which is very like Zeke.

"Ultra Lightning Fury Slash... MAAAAA--" *falls through the ground level, the voice fades away as he falls into the clouds due to simply missing the attack* Yep, that's a Zeke moment.

Xenoblade in smash was the biggest incentive I had to check out this series originally…very happy I did. One of my favorite of all time now

Same. I thought that Pyra/Mythra were cool so I checked the game out. Now Xenoblade 2 is my favourite game of all time

The Jeff assist trophy spawn in poppy’s battle could also be a reference to Poppy QTs missile launchers, since Jeff spawns during the poppy qt phase of the fight

I use often the spirit with a Sephiroth lev 9 for having a Xenoblade fight with the Smash gameplay I win sometime.

I'm thinking Zeke's spirit battle takes place on Kongo Falls to represent his fight in Leftheria (is that how you spell it?), which takes place on a wooden harbor on one of the many "island" titans of the archipelago. I think he even falls into the cloud sea there because he tried leaning on one of the wood fences behind him and it broke under him, making him lose his balance, so it makes the Kongo Fall reference a little funnier when you remember that's a stage where it's easy to get KO'ed (or even SD) if you're just being careless (and it has a wooden floor lol).

It could also be the closest match they could think of for Uraya's environment, from the first Zeke fight.

Midgar i think is more to represent the abandoned factory on Mor Ardain, as Midgar is one of the only industrial themed stages in the game and the abandoned factory has a bit more significance regarding its relevance to Tora and poppi's story and artificial blades in general and that you get poppi qt there in the story. Regarding Zeke's stage being Kongo falls, it could be either an attempt to reference Uraya being a lush environment with a lot of water around and/or it could be a reference to that you are always fighting zeke on cliffsides in his fights

I remember being super happy when Shulk made it into Smash initially. When Ultimate released I kept hoping that Rex/Pyra would make it in. I had thought they would play kinda like Pokemon Trainer and Pyra/Mythra/Catalyst would be the background character that you could choose when to switch giving Rex as the figher a different moveset. What we got as Pyra and Mythra is still great and still appreciated as a fan of the series.

I feel as though Pyra and Mythra could be switched by shield+b (like inkling's reloading), add Wulfric and Roc instead of Catalyst

For Mecha Fiora spirit battle, I think the post apocalyptic setting and stone buildings of Reset Bomb Forest are more reminiscent of Prison Island than the Fallen Arm. It's also here that you meet Mecha Fiora for the first time so it would make more sense

I think the flower effect in Riki’s fight also refers to Behave, his paralysis art where he shoots out flowers at enemies.

I'm sure every spirit also has a reason for being attack, defense, grab, and neutral, as well as being the number star rank they are. Reyn being grab is interesting though, when he is a literal tank. I would have thought they didn't change Lucina in Rex's spirit battle because they didn't want to make gameplay changes, but they removed the lava floor so at that point its weird why they didn't. I find it funny that neither of Pyra's spirits use the censored design. I guess they're more worried about being able to view her in 3d

I think the black-coloured alt for Shulk that represents Dunban would've been a better fighter to represent Malos in his spirit battle because they both have a Monado

You missed 2 things with Zeke. For one he is only 1 star and two he spams Cloud’s cross slash which is a reference to ULFS Max. Jin is ice element when he joins you in chapter 8 but he is neutral type in most of his boss fight. Metal Face appears in Malos’s fight who looks like a gargoyle and also why was richter used instead of ganondorf?

I imagine Ricter was chosen simply cause he just looks closer to how Malos does physically. muscular build, lighter skin, short dark hair, and has an alt with darker clothes

@@Magic_Ice yeah he has a physique similar to malos, but so does Ricter while having a face, hair style, color, and also closer to what Malos has. Hence why its a matter of which you'd prioritize

Jeff appearing in Poppi's fight is probably also a reference to the Jet Biter that Tora uses in the cutscene before the party meets him, somewhat similar to the bottle rockets Jeff uses.

another tie with Zeke and Cloud are both have attacks which create Kanji symbols

the final smash from Cloud really does have the Ultra Lightning Fury Slash Max energy to it, with the kanji and the ending strike going from top all the way to the bottom/stage.

Pneuma having Critical Healing may also be Sakurai subtly nudging you to use her with Master Driver Rex for his Critical Stats; since Master Driver is what he uses after unlocking her.

Smash 4 was what introduced me to Shulk, and convinced me to pick up Xenoblade 1. That was an excellent decision on my part, as Xenoblade 1 is now one of my favorite RPGs, and has one of my favorite video game soundtracks period.

Simon's 6th color variation would've been better to represent Jin but they used Cloud to reference his final form without making him enhanceable so they could avoid spoilers. Although I couldn't tell you why they put in Pneuma who you find in chapter 7 and not Jin's true form who you find in chapter 6.

32:01 false, if Jin is in your party during chapter 8 and you kill enemies as him the enemies will all turn into light blue stream energy thing because Jin’s sword is actually an ice element but not Jin himself (in the main game I mean)

think jiggs for tatsu may be supposed to represent the whole potato container at the beginning of X, rather than of nopon, and Dunban's spirit characteristics being a suggestion to dunban tanking but also being an attacker. in the video, jeff spawns the same time as the character used to represent Poppi Qt, which makes us think that they reference the weapon type QT uses! really like how elmas spirit references ghost factory thats funny. decoy spam deserved to make the smash bros cut like it did

I think that Zeke's battle is on Kongo Falls because it looks like Leftheria, where you battle Zeke for the final time before he joins the party. A better stage might have been Summit, in reference to his icy homeland.

9:02 Fun fact the heropon was the name of a japanies drug (with basacly Heroïne) use by busy (to much busy like with 4 hours of sleep every day) worker for having rest. That could explain the inspiration for the Ban side quest. I learn that Yesterday.

I completely forgot that the mad lad Nomura designed Jin and Malos. XB2 was my first game, so when I first learned this, I was a Xeno fanboy just yet. Actually, I think that might have helped me get interested in Xenoblade 2 in the first place. I still find it odd, unless Nomura and Takahashi are friends or something. I mean, I guess they could be, consider Xenogeats was square. Hell, I guess that means theres a chance that Nomura designed some of the gears charecters.

Fun fact, the Fiora spirit spoiled me, I don't know why but that exact spirit showed on just 10m of gameplay in SSBU right after starting playing Xenoblade for first time

A missed opportunity is having a random selection of characters from Xenoblade Chronicles 1 for Shulks Final smash kind of similar to Joker. I feel it is a missed opportunity.

Perhaps the reason why Pyra!Lucina isn't replaced with Pyra herself for Rex's new battle if you do own Pyra's DLC is because I'm not sure there would be any way to keep CPU Pyra during the battle from switching to Mythra on occasion, and since this is early-game Rex in particular that this battle represents, he would only have Pyra and not Mythra.

So wait, you said you wouldn't be covering series with *more* spirits than Xenoblade, obviously this is a sign that you are making a Golden Sun spirits analysis video, which only has representatives of playable characters from the first game (Felix and Jenna were in the second game playable, but debuted in the first game)...and there's Matthew too for some reason. I'm not in denial, there's also going to be a Golden Sun 4 and the last third of the game will be an entire hours long boss fight against Alex, and Sakurai will announce he was just getting and add Sveta as the true final smash character, and my pet fish just went to a farm upstate, and Santa will bring him home next Christmas with a copy of Golden Sun 4 and 5 if I just believe hard enough...

So did Morag and Brighid. Also, Mythra says that if Brighid did fight her with her full strength, she couldn't hold back. Since Mythra is much stronger than Pyra, that implies that Brighid is on a level potentially higher than Pyra. Also also, Pyra and Rex's holding back in the first fight was only about them not slicing her in half with Burning Sword.
