Great video, I'm native German and work in IT. And yes, there is a high demand and quite a few foreign workers in that area. While I agree that you have the most chances in IT with English skills only, I'd still strongly recommend to learn German, at least once you are here: While you'll probably get along with English within large companies internally, most of the customers and employees outside of the IT department will require you to speak German. If you only speak English, you are of less value to your employer which puts you into a bad position and smaller companies might not employ you at all. Also, if they have to speak English to you anyway and you are of little use in direct contact with German customers, they could just outsource your position to someone working remotely from India or another country for a fraction of the cost (and believe me: the employers do exactly that) Working permanently in medical care, as a doctor or nurse or child care is not thinkable without at least medium level German skills for 'everyday' conversation. Interaction with public institutions, insurances, trade unions will usually be strictly German. Remember, many people in Germany are old, esp. those working in those areas.. They'll lack the skills and some/most just don't wanna use English. While I'm used to English for at least half of my work time w/o thinking and it happens I don't speak any German for 2 or 3 days in succession, I know noone at my age (55) that is willing or even capable to do the same. So, be prepared to learn fluent German. Generally people won't make fun of you and be understanding while you improve, but it is expected you put *REAL* effort into this. It seems this is surprising to some foreigners, and AFAIK situation might be different in other European countries like the Netherlands or Belgium. But just imagine someone going to US or Japan and expect to talk to police, government, employers etc. in German... Also: Remember/Imagine virtually all movies here are dubbed in German since most people won't watch them otherwise. Just keep this in mind, but rest assured: As long as you don't come to just take unfair/unidirectional advantage of the social system, you are more than welcome! Hope to meet you at work soon.

My friend in Germany had open heart surgery to fix a hole in her heart that was there from birth, and all she paid out of pocket was 300 euros. If she had lived in the US, she would have paid 10% of the $150K surgery after she met her deductible of $5000. Insurance in the US sucks.
@mirzaahmed6589
@mirzaahmed6589 Жыл бұрын
That's extremely unlikely. Most insurance plans have annual and lifetime out-of-pocket maximums. I have never seen a policy that has a $20K annual maximum ($5K deductible plus $15K copay). Most high deductible plans come with an HSA, where the contributes some extra money over whatever percentage you are having deducted from your wages. Either your friend wasn't saying the truth, or she truly horrible insurance. The latter is not typical.

for business the most interesting cities would be berlin, munich, hamburg and frankfurt (in that order), with their huge start-ups-culture and importance as just major cities in germany. there is more than enough jobs at bigger or smaller companies. and regarding your hair color: large cities are generally super liberal and tolerant, doesn't matter if you have piecrings, different hair or tattoos. a job appropriate outfit and performance are what matter most.

Okay, now I have a question. I heard that Scholz might soften requirements for getting a Blue Card, namely education requirements for applicants. What do you know about that or where can I find out more? For context, I'm very personally invested. I've been working as an Android Developer since 2013 but I only have a year-long vocational training, and pretty questionable one to boot. And my actual uni degree is soviet-type 5-year Specialist in Applied Linguistics. Oh, and I'm in my late 30s. PS about the language part. If you're from outside EU and the mentioned list of countries (like yours truly), you need at least B1 certificate (official, like Goethe Institute) to get a residence permit, and in some cases to get the visa. And job listings state B2 or C1. So... yeah.

Keep looking at job positions! If a company wants you and pays you enough, there are ways to get here. The German courses you can do here. Doesn't hurt to start with some online courses though!

@@TheFren I hope I can find a way eventually, but I'd also like to know as much as I can about the options that might or might not apply to me. Information is power and all that. Und ich lerne Deutsch, kein Grund zur Sorge.

I have a question for you... I am a UX / Product Designer looking to relocate to Berlin, but I am realizing it is a lot harder than it seems. I have been actively applying to jobs there, but not already having a visa or residence in Germany makes me less competitive than EU-based candidates as they don't seem to want to deal with visa sponsorship unless you're particularly the right fit. In your video, you mentioned people from the US are able to just move to Germany and look for a job on location without a visa and apply for residency but I am not understanding how that works realistically. Seems impossible to find an apartment as a foreigner without a job or work permit (plus I have a cat - ugh) and I have heard there are issues with the Job Seekers visa. Hoping the Chancenkarte going to affect with help... but I guess my question is, does it make the most sense to get a job before you come to Germany or to move there first and find a job on location?

Awesome movie! Could you one day consider making such detailed movie about freelance in Germany? I know that it works for the list of professions, but it is not clear about health insurance and taxes, as sometimes you only work some minijobs etc. Or for example now my husband pays my health insurance, and what happens if I start working as freelancer , can I still have my insurance paid by my spouse? ... It is gets pretty complicated especially for foreigners that doesn't speak fluent German ;) all best, greeting from Leipzig

I would really like to move to Germany. I'm an HVAC technician. I'm not sure if my specific job is in demand. I work with a lot of Siemens, Schneider, and Johnson Controls products for a University. Lots of automation aspects of my job since the university is trying ro be as green as possible. Does anyone know if this specific job is in demand in Germany? I'd like to learn more engineering. I know quite a bit already.

I've lived and worked for the city I was living in Germany in 2018, in which I had a work permit that is now expired. I've been wanting to go back to Germany by transferring with Amazon since I have the option to, but I don't know where to stay to be able to apply for a residence permit. I'm not sure sure how that works. If anyone has any insight, I would greatly appreciate it.

Instead of Stepstone and LinkedIn, I would recommend Xing. There are ton of recruiters who search for potential employees. The caveat is that you should at least have conversational German skills (B1 - B2)

Even if you can work in Berlin only speaking english, I think its always better to even try learning the german language if you wanna stay. There are countries like France where you have to learn the language. And I think its a matter of respect to the culture you move in.
