I've always appreciated good people, and I'm certain Judy Garland would have said the same. She did defend us in a 1967 interview, after all. I think we not only admire her for her flamboyance, irony, wit, theatrical and music ability, but also because her voice whether she was speaking, reciting stories of life experiences she went through, or singing gave people and herself the following: her life and personalities' climaxes, depletions, complete sadness, unmitigated happiness, and general humanity, I have always thought of her as not only a person whose heart and soul was bigger than all of her put together, but also a person whose anxieties, depressions, humbleness and charm forced her to be unable to realize her power over people; Not only her precious fans, but also her friends and family. I've contemplated she rarely realized her Generosity, Selflessness, Consideration, Compassion toward animals, and humanitarianism. I believe she generally didn't comprehend her genius and beauty, enough to realize she was truly admired and loved by her fans enormously, probably not even intentionally! I'm under the impression that is the reason why she's still, talked about, written about, parodied, and generally, discussed by the public today! Her tenacity, and superficial exterior, when examined closely, was very serious, which gave her a mousetrap-like wit, that we've come to admire and appreciate, so much today! It's almost like we parody her to protect whomever she had helped in her friendships, family circle, and community, so her legacy of civil and human rights preservation, and general humanity toward people who, themselves have been made invisible to protect our species, can revive into the succeeding generations and become the people who we were meant to be! Which is why we her legacy lives on so well today! Her humor, compassion, and talent helps bring out the love, happiness and humanity in people, which in turn, helps them thrive and grow to become the best people they know how to be! Which is the very reason why we love her so much today, and will always continue to celebrate her in high regard!

She won my heart when I was just a boy, for all the reasons you've mentioned. She has captured me. I still mourn and grieve over all the cruelty that she endured, but that she remained loving and caring and passionate is a huge virtue that she instilled in me to this day. Thank you, Lord for her amazing life.

IMHO she was a powerhouse like Sinatra. They both brought it when they sang. None better. I loved when she fluffed her hair when she was into a song. Such emotion. U could see, hear and feel the talent flowing out of her.

Many put Sinatra in her league, but I don’t. As someone else said, “she was simply an untouchable artist.” No one, not even Sinatra, could be compared.

Paytonfit I believe that the broadcasting company was as ignorant then as they are today. Great people NEVER die because they are NEVER FORGOTTEN. What amazes me is that no matter how CBS or MGM or any of those chronies tried to PAYBACK, yes even the Academy, she still rose above it with her amazing, incredible talent and just her being, if you will, that couldn’t be quelched. They all stuck together, like the Bobsy Twins or group- MGM, because they fired her but they couldn’t keep her down, CBS stuck with whatever MGM wanted and of course, the ACADEMY followed suit. All started with good ol’ PAYBACK. MGM thought they could chew her up and spit her out. (They worked the kids back then to near the exhaustion, then filled them full of pills to keep them working.) Judy was their greatest piece of property, she gave and gave all she had but when she needed help, time to charge her batteries, time to get the help she needed, they weren’t there for her. She was just a money bank for most everyone in her life, the studio, the stupid business managers, even husbands, all picking the meat off the bones. Then studios want to get more showings in a day so they scalp and hijack A STAR IS BORN and take out reels Willy Nilly so the producers (Luft) and the team have to put in still photos so the movie makes sense. And then there’s the Academy, a bunch of puppets; need I say more. I was just a kid when Judy lost the Academy Award, but even I could figure that one out, (with the help of my dad. Never the less, It didn’t take a nuclear scientist to figure it out.)

CBS thought it would be a good idea to schedule the show opposite Bonanza on NBC and tape it in black and white. Her contract stated that the show was going to be in color and be on Thursday night, but William Paley ignored it.

I read a book about the show and all the struggles along the way. They never really knew how the show should work with Judy, and I think they had three producers within that one season. Insane.

Oh yes - the movie's version is at a faster tempo, and it doesn't move me like this version does.

Judy is one of those people. As James Mason said in STAR IS BORN, that Esther had that something special that you know when you see it, and she had it. That’s it!!! That something special that Judy Garland had that you are very fortunate to get to experience maybe once in your lifetime.
