It really is amazing that this wonderful singer who died fifty years ago still speaks to us so directly. My friends think because I'm a gay dude that why I must like her. Lol. Nope. That singular voice!! That epic fat voice that contains multitudes. There is simply nothing else like it and nothing that even approaches it since.

Judy in top form when many erroneously claimed in total stupidity she wasn't...clearly looking wonderful, great duet with Vic Damone sublime & "The Palace" medley a stunning tour-de-force, with more support Judy would have gone on as she should have many more years...shame to those who kicked her down. Love & miss you Judy, RIP great wondrous one...

This and the the clips of her with Mickey Rooney on her show, are probably some of the most beautiful clips I have seen. She wasn't called "THE LEGEND" for nothing. It's been said that after the demise of her TV series in 1964 that Judy Garland began her decline but Listen to the end of "Once in a lifetime" when she's "great things!" She belts those words out of the park; You can hear her open full throttle.. She has and always given me chills each time I hear her sing! Too bad that we don't have any real singers like her anymore. There's a reason why she is still gaining a fan base almost 44 yrs after her passing

@@tjj5337she had many peaks. Young Judy.. Wizard of Oz. Young Adult Judy.. probably Meet Me In St Louis. Mature Judy.. A Star is Born and Carnegie Hall Concert. Unfortunately this performance we are watching was during a downward spiral at the end of her life. That being said, sometimes she’d still pull out that old magic out of her bag! She still had some left.. and this night was such a time! Bravo!!!

She was immensely talented but also an immense drug addict ...people knew she was unique and very very special...but showbusiness is also a business and when you have to wait two hours for someone to arrive on stage if at all or got a set all ready with professionals and the star doesn't show up people tend to become a bit uncomfortable...she got a lot of opportunities in life and messed up a great deal of them..and still she was able to become legendary because of her great talent....the " poor Judy the victim" refrain I'm over now...she made her own bed and slept in it....

No doubt about Judy's greatness. I lived through these years as a child and very young adult - I recall that Judy and her contemporary performers were all over TV, appearing on each other's shows and singing the American songbook, to the point that as wonderful as it was, it became repetitive. It also happened in parallel with the British invasion, which made these performers look...old, though the rock n roll survivors of that age are still out there on stage at 80+. And Judy and the rest were 'there', until they weren't, and by the time people started to miss them, they were gone, as was the variety TV format.

I love her Palace medley and she acts it out so beautifully here. Watch her start "My Man" at 12.06, where she looks up in this way that breaks your heart, "I love him so," and you know its true and that she loves him against all reason. Then watch the ACTING that Barbra has go through to convey less powerfully the same emotion in "Funny Girl," and you understand the magic of Garland.

judy screwd up a note, towards the end, vic gave her a weird, and you could almost feel her magical/legendary powers of "okay buster I still have two more shots of powerhouse notes, and I will be giving more than I think I can, but will find a way to do this and end this song the way I know i can" and Judy does. Something amazing always happens whenever Judy feels she misses something, something inside her wants/needs to overcompensate and really wow the audience. Judy Garland was and always will a magnificent talent that is the Gold Bar of High Standards. So musical, so brilliant, so Judy!

The Hollywood Palace was produced by one of Bing Crosby's companies, so if Garland was hosting the program (as she often did--in color, no less), it was with Crosby's approval. Some people in the business knew her worth and did not attempt to profit by it. I only wish that she had lived long enough and kept her health up to hear the praise she received only after her death. All the people who snubbed her in her final years put up a great show of grief at her funeral.

On a brighter note we do have great singers in In the style of Judy...the music business(gag) won't let them become popular. I go to broadway and downtown clubs and Harlem spots several times a month and let me tell you, music isn't dead! you gotta get out there and embrace the new Judys and Jolsons out there. If you compare everyone to Judy, you'll never love anything new thats just as good

Although this can hardly be considered her "peak" it is an amazingly controlled performance for so late in her career. She is far less frenetic and jumpy as she was through most of the TV series. The weight is up, and I can only assume her pill consumption down. She looks great. The sound is almost lush again. The pity is, she was still mostly singing her old chestnuts, straining to hit the familiar "big" notes. If she'd been picked up by another record label after Capitol dropped her, and was encouraged to try different, jazzy music and styles, it could have helped a great deal. That said, this is my favorite version of "Once in a Lifetime." Better than the rendition on the series, tho her voice was not yet as damaged.

Nope its not you, she looks and sounds great for so late in her career, although it is just 2 years after Carnegie Hall and 4 years from the end, and so much of the disintegration was during those last 4 years. Who knew she had sung from West Side Story? Imagine if she had lived to sing more of the Sondheim repetoire, she might have been amazing.
