Allan Sherman was one of the best parts of my childhood, and I could still sing his songs from memory 40 years later. At the breakfast table, in the car, anywhere is a good place to bring a smile to someone's face with a few lines from Allan's treasury of tunes. Weird Al created his own career, but Jewish Al probably made it a little easier for parody to be seen as a sincere form of flattery. I miss you, Mr. Sherman.

I read a story in a book by Bennett Cerf about a woman listening to a night club singer then opening her blouse and asking him to autograph her breast. Her boyfriend got pissed so he stood up, unzipped his pants. He whipped out his manhood and yelled, “why don’t you autograph this?” The singer replied,”its kind of small. Maybe I should just use my initials.” I always wondered if that was Vic Damone.

These songs were parodies of actual songs. In the case of the parody you noted (1:13), the original song was called "Tenderly" and the opening lyric was "The evening breeze caressed the trees tenderly." Thus, the parody lyric: "The evening breeze caressed your knees Brenda Lee."

@@TheAskTrixieChannel You'd probably have to be an old geezer like me, in order to recognize the original songs being parodied, unless you happen to listen to songs of the 1940s and 1950s.
