I have rebuilt several Allis one way cylinders and made new rods for a couple. I've always gotten chevron packing that looks like the original. I believe they are made of duck and rubber. I'm not sure what your packing is. Maybe a Teflon derivative? The packing needs to be tight enough so as not to leak, but still allow a film of oil on the rod. If the packing is too tight, the rod will tear them up without a bit of oil seeping by. As they wear, you can gradually snug the gland nut up. I have also never had to 'bleed' a one way cylinder. After several cycles up and down, the air will go out with the oil.

I agree. Not sure what these are made from. They are from DS tractor. They do not let much oil past and it might be an issue one day. As for bleeding yeah once I installed it, it was fine. Manual said to loosen gland to bleed but I didn't have to. Maybe if if the hose is really long this would be an issue but I didn't have a problem.

That last packing I bought, I believe came from Motion Industries. I believe it was $8 for the stack, for one cylinder. I guess that was close to 20 years ago though.

Waiting on a hose. Still haven't tried it out. Have it painted and just put in place last night.

No leaks I haven't used it a lot but in the beginning I used it and hit the pressure relief a few times testing at full pressure and no leaks so far.

looked nice. Will the SS wear the seals quickly since it is not chromed? could have you gotten the rod from a hyd shop and then done your own turning instead of them turning it for you?

I'm not sure the original was chrome. I polished this one up on the lathe to help smooth it out. The ones you can buy online are just stainless steel also. It might wear more but not totally sure. I won't use it for real work anyway so I will never know.
