Allis Chalmers FB20-24 Forklift, Let's get it Running!

5 ай бұрынI've been looking for an inexpensive smaller forklift for some time now. After missing several opportunities, I found this old FB20-24 Allis-Chalmers 2,000lb forklift for sale. Paid $500 for it and traveled about 250 miles round trip to grab it.
This video is my journey to hopefully getting it running over about a months time. Several parts were in need of replacement by the end of the video.

Good job! I worked in the forklift industry for 40 years, the first 30 at an Allis Chalmers dealership. I worked on a lot of those old girls.

Brett, Looks like a winner....a few more items to sort out. $500 for a fork lift with only minor issues....hell yeah 👍👍

I'm sure you'll take care of it, but on these flat heads, with the head gasket leak as it is, I put a nice liberal amount of copper gasket spray on whatever gasket was in there, LIBERALLY apply the spray (or gold spray paint, that works too!!) and let it tack up then glue that head gasket right in there.. let it dry overnight, you should be perfect. Great job on getting it running!

Using a heavy battery cable would NOT have reduced the current to your starter! In fact, the larger the cable, the more juice will get to the battery. i.e. the larger the cable, the less resistance... However, if the battery cable was severely corroded inside the insulation, it may have acted as a resistor, which would have reduced the current to your starter... Also, I would have done a thorough cleaning of all the connections!
