If you manage your expectations, this is a smashing wee unit! I'm onto my third camping season and use it in conjunction with a 100w solar-panel to run an 'Alpicool' 50 litre 'truckers fridge', and it chunters away 24/7 without complaint. During the summer (in the Scottish Highlands!) I was getting sufficient sun to reach a full 100% whilst running the fridge, and during the night that would drop down to something like 70% by sunrise. I don't really push mine, carefully store it indoors at 70% and 10⁰c when not in use, built a wee storage-box for travel, etc... only use the 240v for small stuff like rechargeable torches, and so far, so good!!

I looked at the numbers myself. It is a lithium ion battery which means it’s a high capacity battery. Mine is still fully charged sitting at 100% even though I was charging drone remote control car batteries I really love it❤ since yours you tried to plug a heater in and it is supposed to output 10 A which your heater is only supposed to put out more than 10 A but these solar generators are only limited to 60 A tops as a protection layer, so it doesn’t overload it. Mine has a protection too. it has overload protection on it, so it doesn’t overload itself or drain the battery too low.

Hi. Thank you for this comprehensive review. I bought this power station here in Lebanon a year ago. From the first day there was a problem of calibration that the local dealer couldn't fix. The display didn't reflect the real running time expected, but the device worked fine.. It started to crash at the 4th month. Then every 30..40 days. Either it doesn't start up or it doesn't charge from the adapter. So the local dealer sometimes changed the board and sometimes fixed the charging socket. He did it for free 3 times he said if ot happens again ill charge you around 50 dollars each time I replace the board and 20 dollars if It is a matter of resettling.. So now I am only cjarging it through a 65 watts usb charger that I bought separately. It takes around 11 hours. ( vs 5 hours .15 minutes when charged simultaneously from adapter and usb) is there an easy permanent fix for this problem ( the adapter charging )thank you in advance. I apologize for the length of my post🙏🏻🙏🏻

I've had a few people now contact me about these units, and sadly how bad they are. Granted Allpowers has replaced or refunded all of their units, but each unit died after a short amount of use or started behaving oddly. RIght now mine is still operational, and I've got a viewer who is currently trying to repair one. So at the moment I don't think there are any easy fixes.

Hi,we have the smaller 600 watt alpower battery pack and it was fine did everything we needed for 6 months yes 6 months and then just suddenly stopped working and as I am not any good at this sort of thing I was wondering if you had any idea as to why it stopped working, loved what you did with 700 watt battery pack very informative,

I ran my furnace blower using my EcoFlow River 2 Pro 786WH for 6 hrs and with S700 V2.0 up to 5hrs. EcoFlow has reliable display data and Allpowers has flaky calculations. EcoFlow has better battery chemistry LiFePO4/ longevity, but you pay >twice as much, grand total w/ tax CDN $791 Costco_ca vs. $334 Amazon_ca. My EcoFlow also has next to no battery drain while idle whereas my new S700 drops by a few % over a 5-day comparison. My advice for those who want this as emergency backup power for home use, use your power station once a month, depleting it to 30-40% and then charge it full when storing offline. What I hate about S700 is powering it off/unplugged does not work as well compared to EcoFlow. I think both go to deep sleep when powered off but S700 doesn't confirm on the display that it's powering off, which is dumb mistake.

I know its a different thing altogether David but can you fit 60mm air pipes and vent pipes to a 5kw diesel heater and see if the 5kw can cope with the 2kw pipes without overheating ? maybe by making some adapters of some kind.

I bought 2 of these in the kickstarter. Both failed within a year and were replaced under warranty. 1 of the warranty replacements failed after 13 months and was politely told my warranty period was over and there was nothing they would do for me. If you're ok with poor longevity and customer support then these may allow you to save a few bucks. Were I to buy again, I'd look to more established vendors with better warranties, optimally with external cells so that 1 bad 18650 doesn't take down the entire powerbank.

Solved mine in a different way. Last year, in 2022 in May I bought an ALLPOWERS 700W Portable Power Station. Failed after one camping trip, not even discharged, about 2 months after. Plugged in or not plugged in it was not operating at all apart from the USB-C port. I wrote FAULTY with a marker on it. So I asked for a replacement, which I have received and they said I could keep the faulty one. The second one failed 2 months after in the same manner. I have asked for a refund and have received it in full. Today I bumped into my old batteries and tried the faulty one and put it to charge. starts working. I have checked the other one and was not working at all. But this one had still some life in it so I decided to drain it completely. Guess what, it worked as well. now charging both of them. so I have 2 700W batteries for free. hahahaha. I will keep you updated.

@@hcretu I have two S2000 1.5 kw packs and have suffered similar issues. Now, both of them charge to around 30% on the displays, then shoot straight to 100%. Can put AC/DC loads on them, the display decrements back to around 85% but then suddenly says it is empty but I don't think it is. Display indicates E08:14. Could be the batteries are failing, but I have a sneaky suspicion it might be more a firmware issue. Almost as if the power display is out of some sort of calibration wrt to the battery pack. Getting any help out of Allpowers other than swapping backs is almost impossible. I've seen loads of different error codes reported but no information to there significance.

Great video David! But it sounds like you're NOT being ironic about the bluetooth module being a good thing? Can it do anything that you can't do with the buttons and the LCD panel? If not, how it's a good thing if you end up paying extra for it? I'd prefer the thing to come without Bluetooth but for $20 less, or for the same price but with extra cables.

40 cells is 4s10p, at 4 volts that means each group was at 1.0 volts. once those crappy cells go below 2.5 volts theyre considered damaged/garbage. that thing is a fire hazard made with cheap ass chinesium cells. you could always dead short it outside and see what kind of BOOM of it makes, would make for a good viral video

Hi David. It just goes to show, if you want to power 230volt appliances, buy a generator. If you only want 12volt to power low wattage things, a power pack works fine for the weight. Cheers, Jim.
@Dirt-Diggler
@Dirt-Diggler Жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, buying a generator to charge power tool batterys or laptops is overkill, add to that the cost of fuel and environmental issues, noise, smell ect and these do have a place but they are not the be all and end all of power supplies i agree. I've recommended them for certain applications and circumstances, sometimes i end up installing a full solar system, sometimes but very very rarely do i recommend a genset although it does have it's place on the list of power supply solutions.
@DavidMcLuckie
@DavidMcLuckie Жыл бұрын
Dual wielding would be my choice. Something battery powered big enough to run what you need. Then have a generator so you can charge said battery pack while it's still operating so no loss of service. EcoFlow make a smart generator you can add to their battery packs so the battery pack can fire up the generator to charge them when required.

Not a fan of these either. So much money for so little power. They all try to show you "look at how long this lasts!" Then proceed to plug in a 4in TV and run it for a day. Never do they run a microwave or a small burner. No big computers. Just small stuff. That's because it'd explode if it tried anything major. Even if it could handle a real load, it'll quit in 5 minutes.
@kriskalvet
@kriskalvet Жыл бұрын
that is all pretty obvious, it literally says up to 700W appliances only. kettles and microwaves are over 1000W. i can guarantee, it will run a desktop as well, unless you have the newest biggest graphics card

@@kriskalvet It's just silly. I have one and it only lasts a little bit. Even a steam deck you can watch the power tick away to run it. It's fine if you have a wall plug nearby, but if you're truly using it camping, you'll get an hour of use and it's done.

@@joblessalex well solar panel physical size doesnt matter, the wattage is important. If you want 10h of gaming capability, you need to buy a suitable powerstation, like 1500Wh maybe. Thats going to be about 1500$ as well, you get what you pay for

I think they're a waste of money. I was watching vid about Tesla going hydrogen by 24/25. Wait till then, cus these battery packs (not generators) will plummet in cost when all manufactured switch to hydrogen. Of course, they still use a battery, but nowhere near as big.
@DavidMcLuckie
@DavidMcLuckie Жыл бұрын
If that happens would there not initially be a surplus of the batteries but then as manufacturers stop making them the price would rise again. We need those magical graphene batteries that are always 10 years away. ;)
@CarlJones14
@CarlJones14 Жыл бұрын
@@DavidMcLuckie yes, that could happen, but they've made investments which run over a 20/30yr period. Just look at Tesla's maga battery factory! There's a huge demand for these batteries, but they won't buy until the price comes down. I had 4 x 110ah batteries in my self converted campervan. One of them blew out, so I have a decision to make. I went for a single 250ah carbon AGM (I think it's AGM). Saved me 25kg in weight. I am 61, I can't justify paying all that money for batteries which could last 20yrs. Weight is an important consideration, but it isn't that important when my 3.500kg van weights 2860kg at the Mot with full fuel and 80lt water. It's got all the toys, but I built it as light as I could. Such as 250w 3mm solar. German/Austrian made, very good, and I believe its selling for about £500 now. Was cheaper when I got it. I use a CPAP machine, so I'd to buy a big unit to make it worthwhile, and I won't pay that kind of money. I'd rather get 2x100ah lithium, and some mobile solar panels. Okay, it a grand, maybe more, but better than these over priced 'power stations' (not). I think they have a place for those who are camping and need power in their tent, such as wild camping in Scotland.

Hydrogen needs an awfull lot of energy to produce, energy that could go straight to a motor and be way more efficient 🤔 Now if Elon can find a way to produce real Green hydrogen, not blue or brown and then can solve the transport and storage problems maybe Tesla will make the swap but I can't see that happening TBH 🤔
