Makeup and clothing is fun. Exploring your identity through different looks is fun. It doesn't matter what gender you are. People would have such richer, happier, more fun lives if they just let go of expectations and "norms" that society dictates. Love yourself, love others, do what makes you happy. If you're not hurting anyone, what's the problem?

I've never appreciated my boyfriend more than in this moment. I am SO incredibly lucky that he doesn't subscribe to traditional ideas of beauty, and can appreciate me for the quirky "androgynous"/"genderqueer" (I personally use the term "ignostic" to stand in for gender-norm-non-conforming) person I am and loves my body as it is. He is amazing. My magnificent unicorn.

i resonate so strongly with that sentence where they're talking about it being easier some days to just go out in shorts and a t-shirt; i put a lot of effort into my appearance to challenge people's stereotypes about the gender they perceive me as, i put so much effort into shaking up perception because it makes me so uncomfortable that people have already decided what i should be because of my body. It sucks. I'm not entirely sure how to articulate it, i struggle daily with my gender, with the expectations of people's perception of my gender, but the way Jacob puts it, 'we don't even have the language for me to even describe why i struggle to be at peace with myself' and that's the constant mood. guess what body parts i was born with? it doesn't matter. It doesn't decide how i think nor who i am. I wish people would see who i am before what my gender is.

We're all on this planet to live and love. If you have a problem with someone's sexuality or how they dress and it doesn't cause you any harm in the long run then the real problem is you. Hate spews in today's world and it's ridiculous because no one's sexuality is harming no one, if I decided to draw on a beard [which I have] because I wanted to see what it's like to look like a man SO WHAT? no one is hurting anyone and were enjoying ourselves. if you have a problem with someone's happiness then maybe you should look at yours first before coming for someone else. Period

@@mrheal420 Hormone therapy is a personal medical choice and none of your business. The number of people whose lives have *improved* because of HRT drastically outweighs the number of people who live with conflicting feelings. @@mrheal420 I am grateful to be on HRT. I educated myself on what the affects of medication does on my body, I assumed the risks and still chose to go forward because living how I was living knowing what I know now would be much worse than any medication would. Now that I have been on HRT for over 3 1/2 years, I still have no regrets.

I have no problem with you dressing however you want to, be yourself... however don't mix up stereotypes with gender!!! all those things you listed liking as a kid, that's what every girl I know liked - but some people give in to the pressure to conform more than others. It's great that you are brave enough to not conform to that pressure, but that doesn't make you not male. We need more people to bravely be non conformist men and women, not making up new words to confuse everyone and enforce stereotypes.

I don't mind freedom of expression, in fact, that is a basic right in America. Any NB person should express who they are. But being so shouldn't be your entire life, your entire personality. Being obsessed with your gender identity is like being someone whose "hobbies" are going to the bar and getting drunk, if you have nothing else that makes you stand out, you're a boring person.

This is interesting. Thank you for sharing. I'm not familiar with genderqueer, but wonder if this is even a thing for women. As a woman in STEM, I have traditionally male interests, and I buy half of my clothes in the men's department. I don't wear lipstick, but it's not uncommon. Especially in my field. I just wonder if gender conformity issues even exist for women in this context?
@BubblyBrainiac
@BubblyBrainiac 6 жыл бұрын
Yes it does, but because males are preferable to women in our society, we haven't considered it genderqueer until very recently. I have multiple friends who are genderqueer but were raised female. In order for women to fit into traditionally male spaces we have had to give up our femininity, establishing ourselves as more masculine. Whether or not we do it consciously. I have personally struggled with this. I am an extremely feminine person but my interests and ambitions are more masculine. The decisions to wear makeup, skirts, and heels in masculine spaces (such as STEM, athletics, or politics) means risking this being held against me. I think in general this speaks to a preference to masculinity. Women can be genderqueer but I think it is considered less because to act as a "tomboy" is already common place in our society.

So much of the controversy around this kind of thing seems to stem from language and people using different definitions of things. When people say there are two genders, I think what most people mean is that there are two main biological sexes and two main genders which reference identification with these. They appear to exist as poles in a continuum. But whereas in the sexes, the vast majority of people are sorted clearly into male and female with some people falling around the middle, in the case of gender identity, it seems like all gender identities are composite. People also seem to use the term "with respect" when I think a more accurate meaning would be "with dignity". Respect implies admiration, and most people's reasons for admiring people are personal and individual, whereas most people can agree that human beings should be treated with dignity, regardless of who they are or what they have done in their lives. What is more, you cannot legislate for people to respect other people, but you can legislate to protect dignity.

Ok so a lot of people seems to get gender and sex mixed up so I'd to clear some things. First of all, sex is a group of biological features, that is described by the type of gametes (either the small ones, spermatozoa, or the big ones, ovocytes). This is the most accurate definition of sex (science-wise). - spermatozoa -> male - ovocyte -> female Sex chromosomes are more tricky because some female can be XY (usually corresponding to male). Genitalia is a lot more trickier since it is not as binary as it looks. Its formation occurs during the embryo's development : two ducts are formed, either one of them is going to degenerate, leading to the formation of ovaries or testicules. The penis or vagina is formed next. Some people are borned with anatomical "unclear" genitalia and are "repaired" by surgery to match usual genitalia. Problem is when it's done to not be different from the norm rather than having potential health issues later. For clarity, it is better to use "male" and "female" while refering to sex and "men" and "women" while refering to gender. Gender is a different thing, which is somehow related to sex but isn't sex. It directly refers to masculinity and femininity, which are a "set of attributes, behaviours and roles associated to male and female humans". It is socially constructed, one easy way to notice is to see how these sets vary from different cultures or countries. Concerning gender dysphoria, which is usually hard to understand for cisgendered people (whether acceptant or not), I've heard someone describes it like constantly having the wrong shoes on the wrong feet (right on the left and vice versa) without being able to take them off. It is uncomfortable, can be painful sometimes ; even though you can forget it when you are sit of distracted, you start feeling them again as soon as you stand up.

@reedbej4822
@reedbej4822 6 жыл бұрын
Erin Stepanski you don’t have to understand, just respect. To answer your question, I’m gonna first clarify that sex and gender are two separate things. Sex is biological- how your body is made up. Your sexes are male, female, and intersex (which is rare, but it’s when someone is born with a mix of both sex characteristics). Gender is cultural and is how people identify/express themselves. The best way I can describe genderqueer is to reference the gender spectrum. For reference: Man------------woman You can identify as a man or a woman, but also you can fit anywhere in between. Maybe you don’t 100% feel like a man (or vice versa). Being genderqueer is when you don’t fully feel like you fit with one or the other. It’s hard to explain Because it’s just how someone feels and identifies.

y'all have this delusional mindset that we are doing this because we want respect and attention when the only reason we'd call for that in the first place is when you'd treat us like shit and not respect our opinions because they differ from yours. you think we just want to be different but in reality we genuinely believe this based on who we are and the experiences we've had and all we're asking for is for you to treat us like other humans, even if you do think it's a mental disorder: it's just basic fucking etiquette and just being a good human, like I said. lol.

How many LGBT's does it take to change a lightbulb? Just one: They hold the bulb in place, then expect the world to revolve around them.

genderqueer people can be hot just tone down the eyebleeding pink and maybe shave and you'd appear more clean.

Um. I think he's just gay. Gay men act more like this. Genderqueer isn't a thing but I enjoy his explaniation of his fairy tale.
