The first time I saw someone make this cake, it was like watching a magic trick. Whole oranges into boiling water, "what the ..." we were about to defy the laws of nature or at least common sense. Then the final result is a cross between a cake and a pudding, a cake recipe so crazy it works. Here is a chocolate ganache recipe that works well with the orange cake • Decadent Chocolate Gan... as it will need to go with something sweet not eaten on its own.
This almond orange cake recipe is so crazy it works! It's easy to make, super delicious, and perfect for a special occasion.

I've made this cake numerous times, always with six eggs and 170g of sugar. It's always a smash hit, in California, in India, and in the UK. Bravo, David Rout, a wonderful recipe indeed.

This is my stock fav cake. Everyone loves it often used as a dessert too. Fabulous served with Macopone. Great cake to take for a shared event being dense it travels well and I transport in the cake tin it was cooked in to support the cake.

I am trying this tomorrow. I just prepared my oranges, which tasted sweet, but bitter. I am hoping the cake wont taste as bitter. I found a similar recipe, which recommends repeating the process of boiling the oranges three or four times and changing the water on each occasion; I did not do this and followed your method 😳🤞🏼.

issam bannout I serve it with something very sweet such as cream or chocolate ganache not realy a cake to eat on its own.

David Rout Just to add to that I have found that the quality of the oranges has a large effect on the result, large in season sweet fruit is best. For the ultimate pick off the tree when the fruit is ripe and sweet.

I'm guessing not, but that sounds like a great idea. The amount of lemons would have to be adjusted, as they're smaller than oranges. I suppose this would work well with other citrus fruits too.

David is it really that important to use orange flower blossom water and I was going to put some almonds in a blender because I cant find almond meal. Is that okay. Your cakes look so delicious by the way.
