My daughter in law as a child, her mother ((Hispanic) needed help in the States . From Catholic background, Mormons helped her so she joined. This was in Michigan. I was shocked bc I’ve heard from other Mormons that most ethnic groups are not that welcome.

I learned about the mental illness (depression, etc., from being isolated in abusive marriages, and abusive situations) from an ex-JW named Mary Kochan. I listened to a set of taped speeches she gave debunking the cult that her family was in for three generations. Worth finding the recordings if they still exist and you want to find out the truth about JWs and mental health issues. I think she was also in an abusive marriage and had a breakdown, leading to many JW women contacting her to ask her for help in coping with their own nervous breakdowns because the JW cult doesn't have anything for people who are struggling. I think the tape series was 'Inside the Watchtower,' but I could be wrong.

JWs are terrifying and somehow its not in the public awareness, a friend's mother was forced to stay married to her abusive, alcoholic ex-husband. He was allowed to continue attending church and could have earned his way back into full membership. She married a non-witness who treats her amazingly, her mother nearly didn't attend the wedding. Until her stepfather stepped in to say her mother would regret it for the rest of her life

So called Prophet , off the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Claim to be a Prophet , when he murdered so many members, and told lies, and teach another doctrine to the one off today. So changing the temple ways, is hiding the past and truth’s off their lies. It all makes me sick, my wife’s family are all members. My wife don’t even like me talking about it. You never know how much culture creates unintentional racism. My husband is Japanese and my grandfather would call them orientals and had no idea it was wrong. Hi Erin! Great question! A testimony is an unquestioning faith in the church and God. It's basically a way of saying you have complete certainty that (insert church related thing here) is true. It usually goes something like this, "Hi everyone, I'm Shelise, and I have a testimony that this church is true. That Joseph smith was a true prophet of God who was sent here to restore God's one true church onto the Earth. I have received his blessings after being a faithful servant to him and know that by keeping his covenants, I will live with him and my family for time and all eternity. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen." So once a month, in place of regular sacrament meeting (with talks given by the congregation), people instead get up at random, go to the mic and say something like this in front of everyone. I call them "indoctrination meetings" because they teach you even if you don't have a testimony, bear it until it becomes true. So when smart people like lawyers and doctors get up and bear their testimony, it makes you think "well if THEY know it's true, then maybe it is!"

As a kid I was often offered $1 to get up and bear my testimony. It was ice cream man $. My family wasn't well off, so this opportunity got my shy self up in front of a room saying.. I'd like to bear my testimony, I know the church is true. I love my mom and dad and brothers and sisters. In the name of Jesus Christ amen. I've heard many, many kids bear the exact same testimony over the years.

It's nice to see questions coming from the outside. The Mormon church teaches that the more you bear (speak and share) your testimony publicly, the more blessings, guidance, peace and prosperity you will receive. Almost every aspect of Mormonism is prosperity gospel based. Some people give their travel logs as a testimony. But as long as you don't say anything that challenges Mormonism, and as long as you don't bring up their troubled history or say anything critical about the leaders, a member can talk about anything that supports their ego and assurances within Mormonism.

In wider Christianity 'testimony' is generally used to refer to someone's conversion story, or a story of a particular miraculous encounter of how God has helped you..

Angela here... on my son's account lol. To answer your question. I have a very deep love for Christ. I feel closer to him then ever before. I realize though my goal is to align my heart with christ. I think the missing context, though, is a man no-one ALSO wants to marry. While it could be true that he wasn't a pleasant person (which I can't speak to), it could also be true that his desire to obtain more than one wife is something that made him less desirable to an additional wife. I'm so sorry to hear that! It's always best to try plant medicine with someone who is experienced & knows how to help people while on the medicine. I have felt similar things during ceremony. A complete dissolution of my ego and fear which had me wondering if I really needed to stick around or not. I can't speak to your friend's experience, I just can understand how people may come to certain conclusions while journeying. It was the last time I did ceremony by myself.
