Now it's the turn of the Electric VW Beetle created by Electric Classic Cars (www.electricclassiccars.co.uk). This thing is seriously quick and it goes round corners extremely well. Proof (if you need it) that electric cars can certainly be fun and engaging to drive.
Thanks go to Richard and the whole team at Electric Classic Cars for making this video possible.

I own a '71 Superbug, and I have been toying with the idea of doing an EV Conversion. But nothing is so easy, and what most people will not realise about your very successful 48kWh conversion of the Superbug, is the many hours of lengthy study, the late nights, the mathematics that all had to be undertaken, in order to save weight in every possible way, to maximise EV range. The Lightening of everything and anything, to keep the vehicle within its' GVM, such as all of the Seating, and replacement of the steel Bumpers. I can truly say that I have never seen a better conversion on You Tube than this, a credit to the Creator. Most people who carry out EV Conversions on Beetles appear to remain 'shy' when it comes down to the Battery Storage Capacity - and ultimately the vehicle range. But not you, your pride in what you have created will live on. 20 years from now, Battery Power (kWh) may double. Won't that be a dream worth waiting for? Please write a book regarding everything about your EV Conversion for that lovely Beetle. And I would buy a copy! Best wishes from Sydney Australia.

Another great edition. The torque of an EV is great in hilly areas (even the Zoe is great going up hill). I used to have a classic car and the lack of daily usability can be a little wearing after a while (not to mention the high maintenance costs) - this looks like the answer.

Terrific vid. Would love to have that fella explain how the heck the electric motors and multiple geared transmission setup work.
@JamesCookeVlogs
@JamesCookeVlogs 7 жыл бұрын
+turboGsrEj1 Basically the gears do almost nothing, because the electric motor has such a wide power band. However it is easier and cheaper to leave the original transmission in rather than have to design a new one.
@jurivlk5433
@jurivlk5433 7 жыл бұрын
@James Cooke: How can a transmission that was build for a 40 hp engine (well, maybe even 50 hp since it is a late model beatle) cope with an electric engine with so mucht torque? Did Hitler design the KdF-Wagen so tough? By the way, it looks gorgeous and must be better than the original which used to release some exhaust fumes through the heater to the interior, which was not fun.

There is no easy solution. I could and one day should get a couple of separate lapel mic and record independently each speaker, but at the moment I don't have the kit for that. Next time I go up though I'll try to have something like this sorted out for the shoot.
