It's important to know about the various types of ammunition available on the market, the differences and similarities between them, and how to tell. This is also a vital part of your CFSC and CRFSC course, as you'll need to demonstrate both theoretical and practical knowledge on many of the points made in this video.

With respect to .223 comparing it to .22, I believe I meant to say "thousandth of an inch" and not "hundredth" :) Just a quick correction. Also, a different (and probably better) explanation of what gauge is: The gauge of a firearm is a unit of measurement used to express the inner diameter of the barrel. Gauge is determined from the weight of a solid sphere of lead that will fit the bore of the firearm and is expressed as the multiplicative inverse of the sphere's weight as a fraction of a pound, e.g., a one-twelfth pound lead ball fits a 12-gauge bore. (from Wikipedia)

With cloves, l found that wearing a size smaller works best for loading lots of mags. l’m 6’2” with large skinny fingers so l normally wear a large size glove. But with nitrate or latex gloves, there is always a bit of loose material at my finger tips. The material tends to get caught in the mags when loading and tears the gloves. l may go through 5 or 6 large pairs in a shift loading mags that day. But if l wear a medium glove, there is no excess material to get snagged. A tight fitting medium pair usually last several hours of reloading before they tear. Just an observation.

Great point! And that's absolutely what happens to me too :) That's why when I work with ammo I typically like to wear tighter fitting work gloves, like the black ones I have - and I only wear my XL sized nitrile gloves for things like oils, cleaners and other chemicals. I find when cleaning I don't have to worry too much about my gloves being snagged ,though on small parts (especially those spring loaded ones) it can be a bit of an issue sometimes. I love wearing gloves though. Even when just shooting. Makes clean up easier and just more convenient. Also, I bite my nails as I said, so that is definitely a consideration for me :)

Great overview on ammunition. There is a lot of misinformation about different types that you have clarified, especially the 223 versus 5.56 cartridges. Well done!

Yes! Just like anything else in life - selecting the right ingredients for a recipe, the right pigments for a painting... Using the right ammunition with your firearm is important in getting the best performance for your use case, and staying safe :) Thank you so much for watching!

You went over the diffs between .223 and 5.56mm. you can shoot .223 out of 5.56mm but not vice versa. How does this work for .308 and 7.56 NATO? Great video.

Excellent observation and thanks for the question! It's actually the opposite for 7.62x51 and .308. In this case, from my research, .308 happens to be the higher pressure round, and also has slightly thinner walls on the case itself. So it's okay to fire 7.62 NATO out of a .308 rifle, but not the other way around, as you may have a case rupture, among other potentially dangerous issues. Thanks for watching!
