As a cabinet maker, after getting my Festool ct26 and making all my tools hook up to it, I will never be able to work with out it. I work beside people who don't have dust extraction and it makes you realise how good it really is having dust extraction. Also for the "throwaway" festool bags I made my own version of the lifetime bag clip from two different sizes of water pipe that slide over each other, I cut the bag open empty it and seal it up with my diy clip and I use a bag for around a year before throwing it out.

Well, let me tell you this, as a customer :). I had some cabinetry fitted about three years ago. I only finished painting the room, and fitters came to get my cabinetry sorted. All morning they worked without extraction vacuum. I offered them my small Karcher but they pointed out that they have extraction with them. I thought it is strange not to use extraction, especially as they were cutting Corian worktops but it is their health... However once they left I got massively upset. My freshly painted walls were all covered in the dust. And this was especially visible on my dark navy blue feature wall. It cost me 4 hours of vacuuming walls from the dust plus I gathered it is better not to breath in this shite. Extraction protects you and environment you work in. It is a good idea to use it :).

Great work as always but I would have to say the faster way of making these rebates is just to get the right router bit. You can get 25mm bit with a 12mm bearing on it so that when you run it along an edge it will overcut by 13mm instead of doing a flush cut. Very convenient way of doing this. I use one for doing rebates from time to time.

I got the Festool cyclone trap / pre-filter. (Should work on your model, also on Makita’s vacuum systems with the systainer clamps on top) It’s Festool so it’s arguably overpriced for what it is, but at the same time it saves me money on bags. Especially if you have a lot of router work. You still need to replace the bags once in a while. Not because they are full but because the ultra-fine dust leaves a coating on the inside, clogging up the airflow.

Dust extractors are where it's at. I even have a shroud that lets me hand sand with collection. Festool plastic is too delicate for tools of that price, in my opinion. It's my only complaint about the brand, and it's kept me from buying anything of theirs- as great as they work. edit: Not to mention the time my boss told me to just put a bag on the sander, while I was setting up the extractor. It set the fire alarm off, which was tied into their home security system. Good times. Always extract. We don't use any treated timbers in interior construction here in the US (at least in New England). I'm not sure it's a good idea.

@@rgbking488 another option could be the scaled down Festool CT 15. Essentially a midi scaled down in features and minus the Bluetooth option. Only thing with the 15 is that it doesn't come with an antistatic hose and so I'd source one even going with something like a Cen-tec antistatic hose to avoid the 130 USD price tag for a hose.

@ron1martens 4 жыл бұрын
Nevyn starmix impulse are exactly the same as metabo and I think Ramset vacuums. The shape is exactly the same. I do not understand why more carpenters don't use dust extraction. @ron1martens 4 жыл бұрын
Nevyn interesting how it works. Somehow they ( manufacturers) work together. As you know metabo and hikoki have amalgamated. The metabo cordless planer is the same as the hikoki and previous hitachi cordless planer. Ramset jackhammer is also a carbon copy of Bosch or vice versa. So I'm curious to know where it all started like you mentioned. Perhaps patent lifted. The festool it a different design to starmix. One thing I had a festool and they don't lose much suction when the filters get clogged with fine dust. Gyprock sanding. Until my festool was stolen. Both these vacuums become heavy and bulky so a smaller vacuum may be more ideal for timber cutting and leave the bigger machines for brick or concrete grinding and gyprock sanding.

Damn it’s crazy how different countries have such different building laws & codes. In the states I’ve never heard of that. In 8min through and this is reminding me of some panels we did in a bathroom and library. Mahogany veneer mdf cut with a 1/2 or 3/4 piece added in between each panel painted dark (almost black) it have the perception of similar to the groove you cut. Same depth. We had 2-3 of up doing it. It was tough bc the homeowner wanted every grain to match. So the veneer were all straight grain up/down. It was just a bitch handling those large sheets of mdf and getting the grains “book matched”. PL glue & 15/18g. I was up on the ladder while my coworkers were down below and I turned around and there was a cop standing at the entrance on some ok wrap it up! Iduno how long he was standing there bc we were in the zone! Caught us off guard lol dope vid brother! Looks sick!

To extend the life of your vacuum filter, consider using a cyclone separator between the vacuum and the tool. I've found that it will divert over 95% of any wood dust, and about 90% of drywall dust. "Dust Deputy" makes a version, and Home Depot (US) has a version that fits on a 5 gallon bucket, called the Dustopper. Likely pay for itself in the cost of Festool filter bags alone. Not sure what is available in your area.

Hey scott Quick question for you, is your vacuum an l class or m class?? I have a vacuum already but its just non big brand. Does the job, i keep it clean but i want a festool with the blue tooth because i use mostly battery, mitre saw track saw etc. Would the l class be alright for this work and cleaning at the end or the m class? Thanks Shane in ireland/cavan

As a woodworker I've wondered why chippys don't put a 20-200L bucket/drum with airtight lid piped inline with their vacuum saving heaps of vac bags and change time. it stays onsite nightly and won't be stolen.

Scott greetings from Wellington. How's the diamondback tool belt treating you? And which one is it? I really want to get one, maybe the raptor, and I'm curious how the hammer sleeve is. Cheers

hi Scott ,small tip its much faster to do those "rabits" on your table saw ...2 small cuts and youre done ,advantyage is youre not changing all that wood in dust ,i always set up 1 cut run all my board thet set other cut run all again...(its realy easy on those dewalts ....mine is same as yours but run on batteries...) i tried with router ....even with spiral bit take longer than table saw best regards

marek mroz I think for the board He’s installing @9:45 , you’re gonna want to use a router.. For me, my garage sealing is low, so that limits me. Can’t put bigger boards vertically on the tablesaw. However, in an better situation, you have a very good point my friend. I would do it just because I hate the noise my router makes :)

I use that method from time to time.Super quick! My table saw tends to leave scratch marks on the smoother sheets though, router this time 👍

A dust collector would save you money and make disposing dust a lot easier. Plus it would help keep your filter clean and thus add years to your vacuum.

Hey Scott, carpenter from the US here. I love your channel, and would like to show my support for it out on the job site. Do you have any plans in the future to sell hats/shirts/hoodies? Thanks and keep up the great work.

Are you using a marking gauge or cutting gauge to scribe the plywood. I tried both recently and found the cutting gauge produced a better cut across the grain. Just a thought.

How does the festool vacuum go with the bigger tools like table saw and drop saw. I see the input to run tools is about 1200W but most drop saws and table saws are up around 1800-2000W????
