Tell me about it. I've been married to my wife (from Monterrey Mexico) for 30 years and she has 5 brothers and 5 sisters plus her parents. All in all, when we have a get together, we do not need to invite friends because 70 of the immediate family will show up.

Good informative video. I married a Mexican woman originally from Guadalajara whom I met in the Austin Texas area some 22 years ago. We decided to move and live full-time in Bucerias Nayarit about 4 years ago after living here part-time for 18 years. I wouldn't trade marriage to her with any of the American women I was married to before, being married to a Mexican woman is the way to go. Yes, you are marrying into the whole family.

Michael reported the Mexican Family "clan" better than anyone else I have heard with this experience! I wish someone would have explained the phenomenon a little better to me YEARS ago... But since I am married to a Mexican family ( yes he got that part right) I have learned over the years that sometimes my in-laws are closer than any of my American family or friends! It's so crazy and fun! I must say that because of the way they celebrate loss ( Funerals) I have been learning to experience loss in a whole new way!!! My mother-in-law passed over 5 years ago and we still drop by her house and gather with family, friends and neighbors for food and games... it's like she never truly left!! I could go on and on about the closeness I feel with everyone... but YES thank you so much for this interview... I loved it!!!

As a Mexican American, my parents send me with their parents to spend time with family in Mexico. My dad’s family is middle class and my mom’s is lower class. I remember when I spend time with my dad’s family. My sister and I were in a different house than my grandparents. I would wake up my sister to go to the restroom because it was on the other side of the house. I wasn’t used to seeing people coming in to clean the house during the day. My mothers side, we had to clean up after ourselves. I realized that even though my mother’s family’s status improved over the years, we still had to clean up. I remember I would hear the women outside broom outside of their homes signaling me to wake up. It was almost every single woman and young girl outside with their brooms. My grandmother and I would join them. It was almost rhythmic. But we had to clean the house by 12 because it was considered bad luck to clean afterwards. Almost every Mexican woman takes care of the household duties without consulting their husband because they view it as their responsibility so the husband doesn’t have to stress about it. There’s definitely cultural differences.

I've been hanging out with a lady from Columbia lately, and the language barrier isn't all that bad since I understand the normal stuff. And there is Goggle for the rest. I met her through my son who is dating her daughter. She just texted me about attending a birthday for a cousin's husband. As for marrying into the family, I'm a reformed bachelor, I think that I'll stay single. :)

This is a very good video. Michael, he is so right on with all he is talking here about having a life with a Mexican women and all of her ok relatives. I was there but it was in CA USA. I got very close to marry but after my 5th year it was just to much even though this was in CA USA. Gosh, people almost walked in to your bedroom when you was hot and heavy trying to feel Love. I got home from work and about 20 Mexican people was sitting around and eating and drinking everything. Ok, I'm the one who paid for it all. Ok, I could have some stories but I'm keeping it low and slow. But ok, nothing wrong with it all but it is a lot of work a lot of money a lot of everything. So, I started thinking that ok, by having a life does it really need to be like this or can life be good also by just have a simple so much less people and also have Love, so after 5 years I said, sorry I can't deal with this anymore because I felt like a child in so many ways since also not speaking very good Spanish, and when they spoke and had a good time and laughing and sometimes hearing my name gosh, just like Michael here said, from time to time I heard my name but I did not really understand what they talked about gosh, I felt so alone so anyway, a big question is that ok WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE A GOOD LIFE ? Ok, we are all different and you can have less and do less and still have a life so anyway, a good video and interview. Hopefully Michael got to meet Juan Gabriel and Vicente Fernendez. I'm a big fan. I was in Guadalajara when Juanka died and also in Zapopan when our beloved Vicente Fernandez died. To all of us who are fans, we lost the best of the best so rest in peace as they say. Been an Elvis fan also been to many places about his life so rest in peace also Elvis. Back on the 16th wow, 46 years ago you left this life but we are glad that you did live and made all those everything as you did. The same goes for Juanka and Vicente. If you want to conquer a Mexican lady, you have to approach her with good manners. The other day there was a young man, probably a foreigner, running on Reforma Avenue, Mexico City without a shirt. and I asked him if he was okay, if he hadn't been mugged or something like that. Obviously he wanted to show his physique that he's in good shape. So I told him that if you want to impress a cute Mexican girl then wear a nice shirt, some lotion, a good pair of shoes.

Seems strange to hear people from Guadalajara calling Amaricans gringos. My wife is also from Guadalajara. I've always been referred to as a gabacho.

When you marry into a latino family you are marrying the entire clan. You will usyally be treated very well. The loyalty I felt toward my Latino family is everything to me. I am a gringa and married a Salvadoreno. The marruage didnt last a lifetime but I felt embraced by the family long after the divorce.

Yes, in Mexico family is very important! It’s way better than American culture, where the kids send their parents to retirement homes and leave their parents to be lonely! It’s sickening.

Married to a Mexican woman for over a decade. First marriage for both of us. I'd never do it again, getting married. Besides, there's no need for it now. I'm almost 60, My life is winding down. I feel it. I might have 3 or 5 years left. Best not get myself into another bad situation. Stay put, no divorce, just an early death and just let my wife have my federal government retirement pension. Then I'M OUT.

I can tell this poor guy doesn't speak much Spanish b/c he doesn't know what to expect, who will show up, etc. I lived that for a while. I advise that you keep a diary of these things b/c holidays will pop up that you don't expect and you may need to go to a cuurch or someone else's home, or need a gift, a certain type of gift. Si, a diary helps you immensely.

In Michael's case, he met a very conservative and educated people, proof is that his wife did not introduce him to the family right away, she was very carful about dating an American citizen. But, most regular Mexican ladies are eager to marry an American citizen for the reason of getting automatically a better life whether is in USA o here in Mexico. Today's Mexican society has changed so Mexican Ladies, they are now more liberal and independent and can choose whatever lifestyles fits better for them. Thanks, Casi Jubilado en Mexico!

This is a very interesting series of videos, your approach is very different and you let people speak for themselves and you certainly understand the art of the interview and have a specific grace with your editing style that so many KZfaqrs lack. I thought it was ironic that you showed Jordan, at opening of the video. Those of us who watched him for several years watched all the changes he went through and how we became pretty annoying especially as he left one woman behind and announced to the whole world that he had the ultimate score he got himself a smart beautiful Mexican wife, though in an ugly-American sexist way, he presents her as being a trophy that he won in the race or something. Ironically she has probably 10 times more education and natural smarts than he does which makes him have to turn up the volume even more on his bravado and his thinly coated version of American macho. It’s pretty laughable sorry but if you have watched his videos over the years you’ll know what I’m talking about His approach to videos is very different he’s clearly about being monetized and one of those people that thinks his humor is laugh out loud when in reality it’s painful and unoriginal. So back to your series of videos I really like them I don’t always agree with some of the Americans who are talking about their life and lifestyle in Mexico, let’s face it most of us gringos on limited budget can live well in Mexico which makes us have an elite arrival in a country where many people still wait for Wednesday night so that they can go on a date to the movies when it’s two for one tickets. even at the low ticket prices at most cinemas in Mexico it’s still a reach for someone if they’re making $14 a day in Mexico they are not going to spend three dollars going to the movies, it would be like us spending 20 or $30 to go to the movies in the US. granted, with the price of concessions and tickets it has gotten expensive to do a date night at the movies in the US. I enjoyed the interview in this video, obviously this man is very well rehearsed because he’s probably told his story to several people it has a good flow to it and he tells it in the right kind of chronological order that made probably a lot easier for the editor. He’s very very right exactly what he said about “when you marry a Mexican you married their entire family including the ants to uncles or cousins and I found even the next-door neighbors. So I’ve never been married to a Mexican I’ve dated several and the formalities though they are casual or well defined and expected of you, they do not expect to adapt to American customs just because you’re at their family dinner table. One of the things I noticed And going to big family dinners in Mexico is that you can’t just stand up and say “well, I’m on my way thanks for the meal hugs to everyone bye-bye“ on the contrary, it can take you over an hour to leave since you’re going all the way around the table to shake hands with some family members give other family members hogs and of course all of the aunts and sisters want to kiss on the cheek and to be told how lovely their new dresses or whatever. Then you get around to one of the uncles who wants to tell you for the fourth time about the time he went to Chicago to work for three months and got to see for Chicago cubs games, the highlight of his life, yes Mexicans also have their bucket list. So you sit down and listen to that uncle story and then when you get up to leave you sometimes have to go around the circle a little bit more saying goodbye to people. Takes a bit of adjusting to get to you you have to be patient and you have to truly adore Mexico and love her people and prefer her customs over those in the US

I'm curious how much the economy has changed in Mexico the last 3 years. Its gone to h*ll in the US. Food prices are astronomical and I know many who are spending 2 to 3 times what they dpent at the grocery 4 years ago. I keep my reciepts so I can go back and see the price changes.

I think it's normal to marry the family. You may not want too, but like eating favorite foods it won't always be agreeable. There may be times when a vay cay isn't just desirable but a definite necessity. Honestly I think my Mom likes my wife better than me. But way better then the alternatives. Unless you move from a southeastern state to a northwestern state (or similar) They'll always be next door or at most a flight away. So be thankful. Remember you could always be Alone. By yourself. Talking to the walls. And drowning quietly in self pity. Party hardy and Love the one you're with. P n D
