We are...unfortunately it seems...not meant to be alone. It's when we have companionship, love, a child, a pet, someone or something to depend on or to depend on us, that we excel. You hear, "Money makes the world go 'round." But it doesn't. You see the richest people tend to be miserable. But the poorest who have genuine love or companionship tend to be not only the happiest, but also the healthiest. We all crave time to ourselves, but it's only temporarily. No...we are not meant to me alone.

Not bad. Couple of things: the cell phone would be fried be the EMP (Electromagnet Pulse) generated by nuclear bomb; the radio wouldn't work. He did well defending himself. It sounds harsh but you can't let mugger number three leave. His life was forfeit when they tried to take his. He would be a ongoing threat.

That's all good David. I appreciate your thoughts. That's exactly what the film aims to do. Let people think about the decisions an everyman would make if placed in his position.

This movie is a good example of what not to do when in proximity to a nuclear detonation . Note: 1.retain all resources, 2.seek protection from radioactive fallout 3. obtain all water and food needs, 4. seak heat , fire or energy 5. avoid conflict.

Tip for nuclear survival films: light travels faster than sound. The flash alerts you, the sound arrives a few seconds later. Apparently he was too far away for a serious blast wave. Which is why he doesn't have radiation issues. Giardia, on the other hand, is everywhere.
@AaronFalveyFalvation
@AaronFalveyFalvation 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time comment. I never knew that. But I want to make it clear that was not the purpose of this film to make everything factually correct about the nuclear blast, it was merely to set the scene for the character so we can understand his situation and experience his feeling of being alone.

One of the better 'Post Apocalyptic' films I've watched in these 'Pre Apocalyptic' times, good effects and some fine camera work. the fight scene well choreographed. Especially like the frantic trying to open the Swiss Army knife. If I had one criticism, a short back story of him being dropped off by bus (or similar), as my first thought was "go get your car dude", minor detail though.

Those wild leaves and fruits that he ate, are those correct? Studying that footage could save a life on day, it it's correct. In contrast to all the commentators who seem to have PhD's in post-apocalyptic science, this movie depicts quite well I think, how an average smart-ish guy might fare in that specific situation, if caught by surprise (we're not all Nostradamus you know, some of us will not expect the nuke). I found this movie to be satisfactory, even informative. Thanks. I am writing an apocalyptic audiobook called Apophis, this helps.

Hi Jan. Appreciate the comments. Its positive comments like this which encourage me to continue making films. The wild leaves and fruit were all based on edible foods in New Zealand. Good flick. But, I must point out one thing. Please take this as constructive as it may help in your next flick. Milli-Seconds before that nuke went off, his phone would have been toast. All Nuclear devices will emit an extremely powerful EMP (Electro-Magnetic-Pulse) shortly before Thermo-Nuclear Detonation. An EMP completely fries all unshielded electronics. Other than that, everything else was pretty much spot on. Nice job!
@AaronFalveyFalvation

Thanks very much for the feedback Todd. We weren't really aiming to be too accurate with how it actually be in real life. But the thought process at the time was to create a situation where the blast was a long way away (hence how small the blast appears in the film) so that it wouldn't cause damage to him aka a safe distance from the blast zone. In saying that I have no idea how far an EMP would travel, do you?
@ToddHofer
@ToddHofer 5 жыл бұрын
@@AaronFalveyFalvation A low yield air blast at 1000 feet would allow the EMP to extend around 40 miles. A ground blast would be around 3 miles. In 1962, a high altitude, 1.4 Megaton warhead was detonated at approximately 250 miles up. The EMP caused electrical damage 930 miles away. There is a lot of wiggle room with EMPs because we have to take into account the explosive yield, type of material and altitude/distance. I appreciate your reply! Keep up the good work and, I'm looking forward to more from you and your team!

I happen to be half owner and an Instructor of a Wilderness Living School. This WAS a survival film. He survived, until he was rescued. He would NEVER have been able to live in the wilderness though. @@AaronFalveyFalvation Hey Aaron, Yeah, I could do that. I love teaching people about the wilderness and learning how to work with nature to survive and live. It's sad that modern mankind has become so unfamiliar with our natural environment. I think your out of New Zealand, right? About the only thing I couldn't give advice on would be your local edible plants and the wildlife that is peculiar to NZ. Anything else you might want to know though feel free to ask. Also, I realize the guy in your film was untrained, which is why it was about survival, which you did do VERY well, because (as was the point) he made a lot of mistakes that "Joe Blow" would make. As you can tell by my last sentence, I am not a writer, but I think you will get the meaning. Which brings up what I said about your writer. There was a reason why I wrote what I did, but would have to watch the film again to remember. Anyway, my apologies, as I am sure he knows more about the outdoors than green grass. I guess there is a way to private message on here, but I have never done it. If you come up with something I can help you with I guess pm would be the way to go for further contact.

@@TheDrummerman1951 True. True. Very smart on taking food hunting, you just never know. I know hunters who just walk in with nothing more than their weapon, tags and an orange vest. I usually pack my Scout-Kit (and I don't mean boy scout) and a trauma kit ( a real one with decompression needles, chest seals, etc.) along with my everyday carry items for wilderness emergencies. I also carry three days food even though I may be only a half mile from the hunting camp. Also in my Scout Kit (which never leaves my body) I have two 2500 cal. food bars. My food supplies would only be used in case of immobility and I could (with my body's stored energy) stretch that out to a month if I had to. If I was mobile I would go straight to small game traps, snares, fishing, etc. Where people screw the pooch is they do not practice. I regularly (during the winter) camp out in snow storms. I am talking about walking out into my back yard and setting up a camp during a snow storm and sleeping there. Ten day fasts two or three times a year are another good way to train and get rid of that unwanted pdding. It gets you psychologically fit for lean times. Setting up camp and getting a fire going in a torrential down pour builds hella confidence. There is an old Marine saying "If it ain't rainin' we ain't trainin'".

The basic concept of Freedom is something to carefully consider.For many, it's the LAST thing they want,- being obligated and tied down makes them feel needed and GROUNDED.That's fine, but be aware that the people you choose to surround yourself with might have different priorities and agendas, and consider how some of the things that seem to offer autonomy and flexibility can also be a burden and a trap.This is very true when choosing an S.O.; it can alter your path indefinitely.

I was told that all electronics within a 200 mile radius of an nuclear explosion would cease to function due to the EMP pluses that get emitted in such events. Even modern cars would cease to work. But the military has stuff that is resistant to such events so don't worry and hopefully it never will if we can get the world to see sense, and stop banging the metaphorical and psychological war drums.

Devices with exposed wires longer than 12 to 18 inches MAY be knocked out. Cars with electronics for certain. Keep at least one vehicle with good old points ignition for just such an occasion. However, EMP is not severe in near ground bursts. EMP is the result of firing a device at very high altitude in the magnetic field lines of the Earth. THAT has an effect over wide areas. But, even that is NOT a 100% hit. Some stuff will work, some will not. It will be spotty. These things are mostly misinformation to keep the public scared, perpetrated by our unseen puppet masters. There is a lot of mythology about nuclear events, solar flairs and plagues. It is a symptom of our pathetically nihilistic times. Believe it or not, most of us will survive an initial atomic attack. Whoa to those enemy paratroopers that try to take the land after that. Russians on the east coast, Chinese on the west. USA, obviously. They will find it is a fact that there is a fire arm behind every blade of grass and two people who know how to use it.

Not quite sure what the purpose of this film was. I realize it was made 10 yrs ago but even then we knew more about surviving something like a nuclear bomb. It's unbelievable the conclusion of the fight with the 3 guys. Until he ran into the soldiers it had only been a couple of weeks. He was in bad shape by then. He could have at least taken a small pot for boiling water to drink, a blanket to use as a bed roll, a better knife, any tools he could find, maybe another set of clothes, definitely socks! But all he took were two cans of food. Again, not really sure what the purpose was other than what not to do.

I get the idea, but kind of felt like a guy just living in a field for awhile with poor survival instincts. I guess not everyone is ok with being alone, but he went hiking alone basically so.... No feeling of urgency really; therefore, his dialogue at the end was lost on me. It’s hard to feel sorry for him also when the people in the city were likely going through actual suffering. Also, why didn’t he try another city? Or look for a rural house. Those are scattered everywhere, especially outside of a city. I live in the actual boonies of Mississippi and I still can’t go far without finding a house or a farm.

Well as you are probably aware the whole point of this film is seeing how someone who doesn't have survival skills, stay alive. Whilst that may be frustrating from your perspective as a survalist, it's part of the journey his character takes. Good and bad decisions, most bad though. Makes it far more interesting. It's not meant to be a film about a guy making the right choices Everytime he's faced with a decision. Where would the fun be in that? :)

Why the survivors are always (or frequently) adult males? Immediately after the bomb, I think women, children and elders also survive. Although they, probably, won't last long...

That was just the personal choice we made when developing the story. We felt that for the demographic of the audience that a young adult male was the best choice. But keep an eye out for our development on the feature length version of this film. It will have a female adult :)
