I’ve honestly got no clue but I’ve known several llamas/alpacas who do it. I’ve owned, worked with and shown llamas for the last 12 years so I’ve seen a lot lmao. My guess is it’s a way to regulate their nervous system which helps them deal with stress/other emotions like excitement. It doesn’t mean that the llamas that do it are necessarily over-stressed, the alpaca in the video certainly doesn’t seem incredibly stressed. Those sort of self soothing behaviors are pretty common in llamas/alpacas and in other animals.

One hundred percent. These wonderful women are not afraid of demanding physical work and the extra effort it takes to do it ethically. And they make it into informative and entertaining content! They deserve their success, we love to see it.

When my friend’s animals (just a few sheep, a llama and one alpaca - all rehomes bc the places they lived were sold or the owners got too old) get sheared he goes over them with a grooming tool to get more dirt/dry skin off and they just lean into him like “ohhhh yeahhhh that’s the stuff”.
