Happy I found your channel today! I am prepping and spinning one of my alpaca fleeces for part of the Tour de Fleece today. I got a bit of a later start. I only have two fleeced and I think it may take me forever to finish both of them!

Marcus!!!! TEN BAGS of alpaca!!!! You know I love processing fleeces, but TEN BAGS!!! Seriously! I realize you're taking them on for TdF but I can't help but ask if you've looked to see if there is a local (or at least UK) mill that processes alpaca. That's a lot of f'in fiber!!!!

I did look into that when I first got them, and 1year+ waiting lists for all the ones I could find kinda turned me off

Alpacas are wonderful creatures! I was/am obsessed with them which is part of what led me into the depths of fibrecrafts

wow that is a lot of fleece. I have a tiny bag of aplaca fleece I bought at the fife agriculture show a few weeks ago, just to try it. Good luck with your mammoth project. I am still trying to finish processing the shetland sheep fleece I bought just over a year ago lol

In my experience? Alpaca fleece is easier to process than sheep. I actually still have a chunk of black welsh mountain fleece from maybe 6 years ago. It's all been washed but needs carded and spun. It's a good thing wool doesn't have an expiry date! 😂

So I bought 4 alpaca fleeces. I should’ve watched this before I bought it because it taking me 4 days to wash and brush one.

@munchmary yeah I'm not making good progress with mine 😂 my best advice is to pace yourself and try and not overwhelm yourself. I've had these fleeces since last year but just got too overwhelmed with it. Now I'm only looking at the once fleece at a time.
