Only 5 cars were built by the factory in 1974/75 of this special version Alpine A110 1800VA. After a long restauration process the car now appears in it`s original condition, restored to highest original standard.

Fabulous car. Saw the Alpines in several Rallies here in Europe. Competing against the Lancia Stratos, they owned the the (crazy, narrow) roads. Porsches for some reason seldom finished in the top 3 positions. Most people get very excited and surprised with the speed and fantastic skills of the drivers. It so happens that some Rallies Include segments taking place at night! Totally amazing although less sepctacular -- the several head-lights of each car become visible and in a blur, a zooming by vehicle desapears in seconds. During the day, driving in a Rally is glorious -- in narrow, dark Roads in the middle of the night seems to be total madness. Although serious accidents rarely take place. Thank you for this great video, featuring a legendary, amazing car..

Don't know what everyone's problem is, the music is perfect for this video. I think a full length in-car capture of the drive, I would prefer it without music, but here it's lovely.

It sounds so good, and just with a 4-pot. Modern cars just don't have that same presence any more. I remember being in Nairobi, Kenya during the last 80s wondering why so many people had gathered in the streets. My uncle said "Oh, the Safari Rally is in town!" and moments later a Mk2 Escort came thundering through town in that similar character of sound as the Alpine shown here... They had some cool motorsports back in the day, whose cars just became legends.

Was the 1800 engine based on the existing A-Type / Cleon-Alu unit or another engine entirely? If indeed the former then was the 1800cc engine's displacement actually 1774cc, meaning that like the A-Type / Cleon-Alu engine its maximum potential displacement is around 1862cc?

Up to 200hp with turbo charger.... with only 2 valves per cyl!... Weight around 560 kg wet! This engine was initially developed for a reliable family car, the Renault 16 (with only 60hp The advertising said... "do not worry, your engine can give up to 200hp on race car"!) and the sport version was used by Colin Chapman on his Lotus! This engine is still a masterpiece... Today.

Has anyone ever fitted an Alpine A110 with the 160 hp 1.4 Cleon Turbo engine found in the rear mid-engined Renault 5 Turbo?

+wickiezulu The Alpine A110 was used as test bench for Renault to implement the first turbocharged engine: it was a 1600cc Turbocharged of 200hp. The car with Jean-Luc Therrier won its first race in front of the monsterious 911RSR driven by Bernard Darniche. The car was very fast but hard to drive because of an huge turbo lag estimated to 2sec!
