Just bought the dual 4ohm 12” alpine R2. Matched it with an 800watt amp wired at 2ohm. Im in love with these subs and sound ridiculously good. If you are looking in a great woofer thats worth your money, get these R series subs.

The Alpine R-A75M is a great Amp runs cool the Alpine R-A60F get very hot a cooling fan is a must keep it cool

I literally just bought a type s 8 like a month ago. They didn't make the type r at that time :-( btw they need a lot of power, built a box to spec and I also have a 600 watt amp and it wouldn't get loud till I gave it a lot of power lol. It literally takes all the 600 watts!!!! Maybe I'm just use to bigger subs?? Idk but maybe I should have bought a square kicker 8. It's so hard to put sounds in a tacoma. Either way once you put some power to it it sounds super good and clean with no bottoming out, overheating or anything.

Hi, between hertz mps250 s2 and alpine r2w10d4 what do you think sounds better mounted in a sealed enclosure ?

Sound quality is very personal and can be different to each pair of ears. This choice would also depend on the exact size of your sealed enclosure. If you are using a smaller sealed box (0.5-0.65 cubic feet) the Hertz subwoofer will work well. If you are using a larger sealed box (up to 0.93 cu. ft.) the Alpine is a better choice and can handle slightly more RMS wattage (750-watts).

As long as the size of your home subwoofer box is within spec for the speaker, and you're supplying the speaker an appropriate amount of power at the correct impedance for the amplifier, you should get good results.

My problem with this combo was at 4ohm only 500 watts is coming from that amp I'd be leaving 250 watts on the table and that's bs what's the point I'd have to run at 2ohm which is more punchier for sure but not as accurate

which sub would you recomend to pair with a ILX-F509 unit? I drive a double cab 2019 taco (it didn't have the JBL system)... would i also need an amp? if so which will be your best suggestion

The Alpine iLX-F509 receiver has a subwoofer preamp output that can be used with any amp/sub setup! This means the options are wide open right now and allows us to discuss your goals for the bass. To help us get a better idea of the levels you seek, we have a few questions: Are the speakers still stock? If they have been changed, which brand/model are installed? Do you use an amp to power them? What are your two most favorite music genres? How would you describe the bass you want to add to the system? The levels you want the bass to play at?

I tested Alpine R-W12D4 on a Groundshaker ported box and it definitely booms hard lows with hiphop or bass music with amazing sound quality i just ordered the second one to complete the pair. I also have the what i believe is the 4th Gen its rated 750-1000rms 500 per coil its Alpine SWR-12D2 bro this one hits hard pounding lows on my sealed groundshaker i have them wired to 2ohms. its odd because the new 2022 Alpine R2-W12D4 it went back to 750 rms but it claims it has a bigger coil and better control i haven't heard the new one but i always wondered if the Alpine SWR-12D2 is the bets one to date because of its 1000rms output.

It is definitely their strongest R series model! You may want to try to find an SWR-12D2 instead of getting one of the newer models because of the design differences and differences in power handling of the two models

Bought the 10” DVC 2Ohm version the other week to go in my daily - struggling to find the grille for this model/ generation of sub that works with the EZ ring though? I am in the UK if that makes a difference on finding the grilles over here

I tried two of these in my ported box on my new ram 1500 with a cab-22 amp. Disappointed in how easily they clip at max rated power. I've been a big "type r" fan boy for 15 years and honestly alpine has fallen behind. I just picked up some SA classic 12s that are rated 750rms (same power) for about 70% of the price that these subs cost me and it was well worth the switch. I am putting 1000 rms to each sub and the difference in the lows is night and day. I will admit that these subs do really well for punchy style music (rock) but are underwhelming for rap style music.

It's not subs that clip it's ur amp that clips I had them hooked up to a 2k rms amp and they sounded great there's also type x alpine if u want a sub that handles much more power.

@@joshholden8561 but why spend 2x the money on subwoofers that underperform vs the competition. The voice coils burnt up after about 700 constant rms to each sub when he clearly recommends running them as close to rated as possible. All I'm saying is I'm very disappointed in the product and expected better for the price.

@@demenciuk I agree the voice coils are too small in diameter it they have really good throw or excursion I'd never buy a alpine type r new there's way too many subs that out perform same goes with jl audio.

@@demenciuk Yeah brotha i disagree i have two generations behind this new one and they slam! If your amp and head unit are matched correctly with an oscilloscope they should never clip at the highest volume if properly matched. SA is not in the same league as the SQ Alpine offers. In my opinion your system isn't tuned correctly my amp pushed 2500rms but i have them matched at 1500 rms for both subs and i can turn my head unit nex2500 all the way to 40 and they dont clip.

We still refer to them as the Type R subwoofers too! But technically, the Type R series was replaced with the R Series (dropped the word Type) around 2017. This is the second generation of the now called R Series lineup.

I have 2 12s running off a cab-22 and they amp stays nice an cool behind my seat with low air flow if that helps you. Plus they don't overcharge you for the quality. The bass boost controller gives you a clip light also which helps tune easily.

They didnt sell tons of type x so its hard to say that they or wont you might look into deaf bonce sa275 subs if you want lows and hard hit for around that price range

I waited 10 months for them to release the HDZ-110s Status line as I got the two pairs of the 65 sc for the front and rears, and they scratched the release. I can't match my Status speakers now. Wait for CES in Jan to see.

@CRUTCHFIELD an old but still kicking t.m.a. 500.1. Made by j.l audio over a decade ago. That shit is pushing!! Had the amp for more than 10 years and the only thing that has happened is the fuses blew out like a year ago. But replaced the fuses and it's pushing hard!!

Alpine does not suggest using a bandpass box with it. They suggest using a sealed enclosure with an internal volume range from 0.2 cubic feet to 0.5 cubic feet, with 0.3 cubic feet being the ideal size, or a ported enclosure with a volume range from 0.3 cubic feet to 0.75 cubic feet. The ideal size for a ported box is 0.73 ft³ using a slot port measuring 8" (width) x 1" (height) x 17½" (length), resulting in a tuning frequency of 39 Hz.

Yes, matching the box makes all the difference. Alpine does not list a current model as a good fit; but we're glad to see what else may work. Do you have an amp or box you want to use?

The Hifonics MR8BP is a box/subwoofer combo that is paired together. For the best sound quality, you can use the Alpine R2-W8D2 8" in the first link below wired to 4-ohms.
