I installed a full Alpine system, including all Type-R speakers, in my 04 Ram 1500 about 10 years ago. 6.5 components in front, 6.5 coaxials in the rear, 2 10" Type-R subs in a ported box under the back seat. I ran a PDX 1.400 for the doors and a 1.600 for the subs. To this very day, it hits hard as hell and turns heads. I am about to do the same treatment on my 14 Ram, just with the newer upgraded equipment. Possibly with a DSP

I can't believe they discontinued the 15"😢! This is one of the most underrated subwoofers of all time! It can compete with just about any brand and it's sound is crystal clear! It was also very cost effective.

They are one of my favorite subs I ever had....

I just reinstalled my type r 12's into a car a few months back. They have been sitting for about 10 years. My car they was originally in was one of the loudest cars in my town at the time. I still have them running on the same amp but I haven't pushed them very hard since they have been sitting so long.

Something I loved about the early 2010s Type S & R was not only that they didn't require a lot of airspace, even for vented, but also the space requirements were nearly identical between em. The Type S & R 12" both only required 1cu ft of airspace for vented. I was very impressed. Smaller airspace means smaller box. Smaller box means easier to fit into anything and also less weight 💪🏻

Love these subs 10 years going strong.

I've been slamming on my type r 10's for a couple of hours each day for two years and they are still going strong.

I bought some of the first 3rd gen R's, and immediately bought another set, as they were that good. Had them hooked up to an MRD-M1005. That also was one of the most high quality amps I've ever had. Better quality than any of the chinese cookie cutter amps available today. I've never had failed tinsel leads, unlike sundown audio. Every woofer I've ever had from them had failed from lead fatigue at the triple joint. Zero clipping. I've had lead luck with many other brands, even cheap, much lesser quality subs. To this day, I have the videos with the most excursion of any type r videos out there on any video platform. It started my love for loud. Now I run fully loaded, digital designs 9918 esp's, and have advanced into the top level of sub bass performance. I will have to hand it to alpine when it comes to quality, value and performance for the average user. I still run old alpine decks from decades ago, and are still my go to for a proper source when building for myself and others.

Recently got the chance to hook mrd 1000d on my 10inch pair they pound even harder n louder what a classic amp so razar sharp controls loved this new combo...2 ohm 1000rms and it plays every song so well balanced impressive results

I had 2 of the original R10s in a sealed box driven by the MRV-1507. This was an amazing combination and they lasted for nearly 10 years. The amp fried after 8 years so I bought a M-850, which I still have today. Currently it’s driving 2 S10s in a ported box. I still love Alpine equipment. They always under rate their equipment, not like so many other brands.

Had a full Alpine system with 2 R10s and X series mids in my 1989 Nissan hardbody back in high school. Saved a whole summer to get that system... man I loved that stereo!

I bought and still have a 12" S type in the box that's never been used. Purchased it around 2003 (man time flys), Always been curios as to what it sounded like but never got around to it.

I have 3 Alpine ZR12's in almost perfect condition. Have had them since 98. I am the first owner of them also. Still have one of the original boxes also. Man what great subs. If your in south florida let me know and you could take a listen. At one point I had 800 going to all 3. Not each but all three and was setting off car alarms 3 to 4 spots away. It is alot of fun.

I needed A new Subwoofer for my recording/mixing studio, I remembered I had a dual 4 ohm voice coil 15 Type R in storage. So I built it into a tapered Hexagonal cabinet. It gets Powered by a Boston SAT Subwoofer amplifier to compliment a pair on Neumann KH 120 studio monitors. This system is awesome and flawless...

Had a 97 Mitsubishi Eclipse with with all Alpine Type-R. Best sounding system i ever owned. ❤️ My fond memories later drove me to seek out a 15in type-r for a diy home subwoofer project that was equally amazing. The 15" Alpine Type-R paired with Dayton Audio's 1000w plate amplifier would literally bring movies to life with punch that shook pictures from the walls.

First sub was JL w3 but the surround got damaged with my golf clubs so got a type r 12 when worked at Best Buy(got nice employee discount) still have it and it runs like a champ(circa 2007)

Great video! Informative and entertaining. I personally run an old school 12” dual 2ohm (SWR1222D in series) and love it. Only driving with about 200 watts in a .9 cube sealed enclosure and it blends well with my components.

I have two X series 12” in my Toyota FJ. Those things are marvelous just marvelous.

I have 2 R type 15 in my Subaru Liberty sti built my own custom box specified for r type 15 and the trunk of course with 2 R types splits crossovers in the front and 2 S types splits in the back 1 orion amps pushing by birth sheet 2936rms for subs and a rockford fosgate t400x4ad pushing 558rms by birth sheet with a 3000 watt capacitor.all zero Gauge wire hole car sound insulated. And the sounds that come from this thing Crystal clear mids and highs and the bass can get eye rattling to a point of sickness but I love it so happy I bought those 15 of a random on Facebook for 300 buck for 2 Australian currency and it been the best thing I ever done in my quest for bass. Good to see people appreciating the R types Engenuity because those things really hammer.

I bought my first 12in type r 1st gen at a pawn shop with some slight surround to dust cap detached as is for $35. $1 in tacky glue later, its the best sub i have ever owned!

I got 3 of those 15s rn in my vic these things hit so hard and clear I'm probably ganna try and get 3 more and do a wall

Hey I'm old school from Australia back in the early 90's Alpine had a 15' sub correct me if i am wrong 6014 and later on a few years later they had 6015. I had both of them but 6014 kick ass just on its own as a single mono 15 inch sub in the back of my Mazda 323 4wd Turbo. Then made a move to a pair of 6015 's and lost that perfect bass from a single unit. I still cant find that boom from any other manufacturer or maybe i was young and know i am going deaf from high level of SPL.

had 4 type r 10s in a 94 explorer, it was known to set off car alarms, but after i changed to different subs, i realized that the type r isnt very efficient and takes alot of upgraded electrical to feed the power to them, after owning mephis street reference 12s with only a 250 watt amp they are the best sounding subs ive ever owned

got two gen5 type-r 12s in my car and a gen 4 type-r 15 like yours in the video in my bedroom 👍🏻

Damn it I had 2 dvc 2 ohm type r 10" subs and they got stolen in my ram 1500 they were too stupid to realize the back seat folded up and that's where my pdx amp was so I got that still but those old type r pounded so good I miss those

Alpine is awesome. But I had glue issue with 2 out of 6 12s type rs. Sold the rest for that reason. Dont recall the model. I got a hold of an older type x 10" and made a box that made my doors do the waves on a slash 1200v3.

I bought my first 12 inch type r about 6 years ago and replaced it giving the type r to my friend. His still pumping it running fine. I bought a new 12 inch one a year ago it's loud enough for me

Hi. I had a question about your amp S-A60M. I had birth certificate thats indicate 673 watt rms. But on the internet sone people says it is 851 watt rms on their sheets. Can you explain this difference?

Those 3rd gen type R's were the best they've made. Haven't tried the current version.

I'm still using the old swr-1240 two 12a on a rp1200 in my family mobile and it sounds great nothing like 4k on 2 zvx 15s but impressive for 2 12s on way too much power lol

How many rms can a type r 15 handle? I have a sundown sfb3000, rated 2000 rms at 2 ohms. Is that too much for one 15?

Now days I run sundown audio but I still have my type r 10 with the grey cone. I'm never getting rid of that speaker

yo Dude I have a 2000 Silverado Step side That's alpine complete I have 4 5/14 sx Titainium with a 12 r sub under the rear seat, I have an alpine ilx 207 for a head unit an mrv f300 4 channel for the 4 speakers . and an mrv m500 for the 12 inch it really kicks hard and Im wondering if I should get a PXE -0850s as the install guy told me it would be icing on the cake. of course with the sxs 5/1/4 I get NO Distortion at any voluume

I'm having trouble finding the right amplifier. I have an older type r. The one with the black dust cap, swr 12d4, it's the 5th gen I beleive. Its rated at 500 watt rms per voice coil, but I see videos of people using mono amps that are 1000 Watts+. I'm confused isn't that too much power? Can you recommend the right amp for that sub?

Alpine is making a mistake discontinuing the type R 15. Lotta SQ competitors use a 15 in their systems. Oh well, guess they're OK with being left out.

What size amp should I run for just one sub?

The Type R’s are the original bang for buck subs. Before Sundown and Skar, this sub stood tall with subs that costed twice the price while performing just as good or close to it. It was basically the grocery-getter of subs lol

I remember my first Alpine V12 amp. Its was stupid powerful mated to type R 12s. Im only just getting back into the car audio again and man Ive missed it so much. Songs come alive but I keep going back to older songs like Michael Jackson's Scream. For some reason newer songs dont sound as good with loud stereo systems. might take a look at alpines new subs and try them out. Only powerful subs I see flooding shops are Vibe.
