Turnstile’s Glow On is one of the best post-hardcore albums of all time honestly

I saw Turnstile at a sold out Aragon Ballroom last month. Most crowd movement I've experienced in 15+ years, and I love how huge they've become. The future of the scene is in good hands.

The Perry Farrell/Jane’s Addiction comparison is spot on. Since Perry said JA was hugely influenced by Bad Brains you can see where the punk crossover lies.

Shoutout for Love/Hate at the beginning there! Was my favourite band of that era and Blackout in the Redroom is easily in my top 3 albums of all time. Straight ahead no nonsense booze soaked rock n roll

They definitely sound creative. I heard quite a few genres blended together but it all worked, it didn’t sound muddled or confused. That takes skill

Brilliant! I grew up in Baltimore. There was a great punk/alternative scene there. I left in 1998. One of my finest memories was of the band Wrathchild. Shannon Larkin, The current drummer of Godsmack was originally in that band and a buddy of mine. Thank you for turning us on to this band!

I’ve only just discovered Turnstile so decided to give them a listen and didn’t expect to find Justin doing a reaction to their music and appreciating them to, great video.

I said about 6 years ago they’d be massive. They’re great and deserve the recognition. Time and Space is a belter album too.

Best new band I’ve heard in a really long time, I finally gave them a shot cuz I kept seeing them pop up places and saw they are supporting Blink on their tour. Watched some live performances and fell in love. Bringing in those melodic hooks to the hardcore sound is beautiful.

When I hear Blackout, I immediately think Scorpions and their classic 1982 song/album. Love/Hate's Blackout in the Red Room is cool too, came out in 1990, Turnstile's Blackout in 2021.

My fiancé and I caught them in St. Louis last month and were blown away from the jump! They held their own in such a way that I haven’t personally seen before! ❤❤

They sound like Perry Farrell doing the vocals for a Helmet song. The way they are doing about 16 layer tracks in the background for their drum and bass sound is also very Helmet like, so much like it that I looked it up and the producer Brian McTernan one of his favorite albums is Helmet - Meantime .

My dad laughed about me being into the Darkness when i was young. And now you review things like this and it makes me like you guys that much more. The creativity within your imagination is just unreal. and i love every bit of it. Thanks for being you.

I always had a problem with finding new music and liking it. I only listen to old things I know very well and I have hard time liking new music (not only new to me, but I talking music made nowadays even though I’m only 22). But I really like it surprisingly! I was head banging as soon as I heard first few notes! I think it might go into my playlist and I’m thankful for that! Really big thank you Justin for showing me new music and also showing that today’s music isn’t always shit!

That Love/Hate album is *top-notch* I saw them supporting Skid Row at the Edinburgh Playhouse when I was a young'un, & Love/Hate blew my socks off! Alongside the early Perry Farrell vocal sound you mentioned, I also heard Helmet-like crispness of riffing in this.... & I liked it enough to go look up their stuff, so Cheers Justin! :)

I couldn't bear to sit through The Grammy's on TV , but I was a tad curious so I read through the list of nominees and winners online. Ozzy's win was nice to see , and I noticed that an unfamiliar name to me , Turnstile, was one of the runners-up. As I'm always looking for to hear something new and worthwhile, ( a vain search most of the time these days ), I decided to check them out on KZfaq. I was instantly blown away, firstly by 'Blackout ' , and then 3 more videos of singles from "Glow". Then I watched an approximately 60 minutes live performance. Very well worth checking out. The raw energy was just infectious , even on my cheap shitty little phone. I didn't spot the Jane's Addiction similarities until you pointed them out Justin . But I hear them now. Good spot. I heard debts to Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, even some Faith No More , and At The Drive-in. All wonderful bands in their prime. Turnstile are in good company. I haven't been so impressed with something 'new', ( too me), in a very ,very long time. (Black Shuck comes to mind , genuinely). I went straight on to Amazon and Glow is on it's way . Can't wait. I'm actually impatient for it to arrive, and as alluded to earlier, that is a rare event indeed. I sent my mate Jason a link to the Turnstile live show, and he replied with a link to your podcast, knowing that I own all The Darkness releases, not just the first one ,ahem : ). Not forgetting Hot Leg . On Jason's advice I have subscribed. Keep up the Great work , here , on the road,and in the studio. Slainte .

Took me a minute, but now theyre literally one of my favorite bands.

i like learning new stuff along with you, these guys kill it. and love the love/hate reference, their debut album is one of the great unsung records in rock, and janes addiction is a good description of their lead singer brendan yates, the last breakdown sounded a bit like korn.

Really impressive band. I remember when Nonstop Feeling came out the hxc gatekeepers were complaining about clean vocals and alt rock influence. Look how much further they’ve reached out since. Nonstop Feeling is still my favourite of theirs and not everything on Glow On clicked for me but it’s remarkable what they’ve been able to do with hardcore music. I think I’d have to describe most of Glow On as post-hardcore though

Nonstop Feeling is an all-time favourite of mine, and I still think they've got better with every release, Turnstile are one of the most original sounding bands around

Can recommend giving their recent set from Glasto a watch. Was lucky enough to be there (I'm actually centre-frame in the video at one point), and they blew the roof off of the John Peel stage.

Remember seeing Turnstile supporting The Story So Far in Leeds. The energy was insane.

The guitars are tuned in D standard (DGCFAD) and the drummer uses one of those electronic percussion pads for the percussion bits (live at least, might be the real thing on the album).

Love/Hate is a pretty old reference- bit of an obscurity. This band on the other hand sounds great, will for sure check them out. Can't wait for the Darkness show in Toronto!

Turnstile is one of my favorite bands and have been for years now Justin is pretty cool I wasn’t too hip to him whenever they came out years ago but I can say he’s a good dude and he’s a good musician keep you the good work bud

Four years ago I heard “Generate” by Turnstile for the first time and I have been obsessed ever since! They’re so energetic!

Absolutely obsessed with the Love/Hate reference!!!!! As well as one of the best first three albums in rock history and probably the greatest first 10 seconds of a song songwriters in history - they also released the worst cover in the history of music - check out their I am The Walrus!!!!

Yeah,...the band is really exciting. Love this record -- I'm late to the party as well. Didn't know about them until a few years ago. A revisit to them and a review of UNDERWATER BOI would be worth a video.

OMG Love/ Hate are a fantastic band. Highly underrated. The album Blackout In The Red Room is great start to finish.

It's nice to see you breakdown a something more against the grain like Turnstile. Metal has a lot of really interesting things going on at the moment. I would love to see you delve into something along the lines of extreme metal/death metal.

I'm not prone to hyperbole but Glow On is legitimately one of the most utterly fun, refreshing and exciting rock albums since Nevermind. I'm 39 and I'm rarely blown away by bands who only formed in the last decade or so but Turnstile really are the best thing I've discovered in ages. Saw them live a few months ago and the crowd went absolutely fucking nuts during their whole set. They're a well needed kick in the balls for all of rock music right now. What Nirvana did for bringing punk/grunge to a wider audience, Turnstile is doing the same thing for hardcore.

Been checking out the album - much to like! Has all the noise and fire that a “hardcore punk” tag suggests, but there’s more than that going on; interesting lyrics, a lot of original ideas, fusing genres, some cool guitar sounds and playing, quirky production. I think I may purchase!

An amazing way to get into Turnstile is to watch their Tiny Desk performance, it's magnificent, it'll hook you right in!
