I think what makes this Godzilla scary is that one, hes smaller so he feels more direct and personal with the humans involved. Two, His design being more cooler and malevolent instead of being chaotic adds to the fact hes not some crazed confused monster, but the fact that he KNOWS what and where the humans are and hes going out of his way to kill them in rage. Its what made GMK Godzilla so threatning outside of his design.

Somebody that saw it in Japan said that was exactly the way this movie was, too. And was planning to see it again out there while there. I remember dude saying the eyes fkd him up because you see him looking at what he's doing. And there's no plot armor in the movie. He didn't spoil it at all. I caught a smirk when he got slapped with that war ship main cannon.

I'm pretty sure their version of his atomic breath is, instead of a beam, that he'll launch a burst that goes off like a nuke. I'm actually tremendously interested in this concept; I've really enjoyed the unique takes on his breath recently. The concussive force blast Godzilla Earth could do looked cool (rest of the show.......? eh...), Shin's was ABSURD and incredible, loved that laser. LegendaryG has what I find to be a classic updated atomic breath, I quite like it. But this? Where he seems to vomit a nuclear explosion? NEVER would've thought of that myself, and I'm incredibly fascinated and excited to see where we go from here. Be safe you guys!

Which I love honestly! Lots of people continuously say that Shin is the most animalistic and vicious version of the character, being more realistic to an animal and to that I've always said.... DAFUQ! No, THIS... is how you do a Godzilla who's animalistic and with a touch of realism yet fantastical and in the spirit of the character. Shin acts like a mentally challenged person who only walks around and at times, reacts briefly but in the most exaggerated way possible. Meanwhile, Minus One Goji over here actually acts like a territorial animal trying to get some intruders out of his land and reacts with lashing out violent when he feels like his life is threatened.

@@treyrex5987 Bro you completely misunderstood Shin Godzilla in like the dumbest way possible. Shin was a tragic Godzilla. Constantly in pain and agony and evolving to combat it, and only defending himself. He wants to survive and be free
@treyrex5987
@treyrex5987 8 ай бұрын
@@dcresistance Did you get that from the film itself or your own headcanon? NOTHING significant in Shin Gojira establishes him being a "tragic Godzilla"... especially considering Shin is supposed to be a retelling of the original 1954 film, Godzilla supposed to be this vengeful beast who rightfully punishes Japan for all its misdeeds and we the audience are supposed to fear him... not some emo cardboard cutout of a monster who does nothing but wonder around, get shot and react. We're supposed to feel bad for something that barely acts like a real animal... let alone a character? I know what you're going to say to try to go against my claim... as beautiful of a track as "Who Will Know" is, it's not enough to justify this "tragic" version of the character. Especially when he's not supposed to be that. I don't mind different takes on a character that's been around for damn near 70 years but when it comes to Shin Gojira and Godzilla: Minus One, which both films are trying to recreate the feel and spirit of the OG Goji... one of these two iterations of the character is better at that and isn't a completely rewritten character where they aren't recognizing besides looks. Godzilla is meant to be a vengeful god-like being, not a depressed loner that needs mental health. Also my original comment wasn't about any of this you just threw at me... I was simply stating the fact THIS new Godzilla actually behaves like what most people say Shin Gojira does. Which is to be a more up-to-date version of the OG Goji: animalistic yet has a personality and feels like a real being. Shin is emotionless, uninteresting... doesn't act on anger or sadness. He feels robotic and unfeeling (not in a good way), which is ironic considering literally any version of MECHAGODZILLA has more life and character than Shin and they're robots for Zilla's sake! That's the point I was trying to get across in my first comment.
@drockwell1583
@drockwell1583 8 ай бұрын
@treyrex5987 I wouldn't call Shin robotic but more like a mindless. Or a giant amiba, I'll call it more of a force of nature than actual animal. I got goosebumps thinking about what that could mean.

I just saw it and loved every minute of it. Godzilla himself was exciting and terrifying, his atomic breath was like an atomic bomb going off. The human characters, Koichi and Noriko, are believable and very likeable. (Their actors were a married couple in a recent daily drama as well so Japanese audiences go in already attached to them) and the period setting looks good. The pacing and action also is just right. Based on the Alteori description the Jurassic Park franchise mirrored the old Godzilla franchise. First they are scary and exciting but in the end they have baby Raptor/Godzilla. And also based on the her descriptions I was reminded by the first Western adaption, Roland Emmerich's 1998 Godzilla. The parts showing the lower half of Godzilla, its' weight shattering the ground, people being chased in the streets with cars being thrown about(raining boats in the 1998 one) by an unseen force.

It looks like its set during WW2 (Or the Pacific War, as it is refered to by much of Asia). I think the original Godzilla movies encompassed a lot of how Japan felt after the war, having had two nukes dropped on them and most of their major cities totally leveled. It would have felt much like a monstrous and unstoppable force had been unleashed upon the population. Godzilla was also a big part of the anti nuclear movement in post war Japan....a cautionary tale of what happens if you mess with the natural balance by messing with the fundamentals of nature. Also, I hope this ushers in a mew wave of Disaster Movies.....coz Im sick to death of the Superhero stuff (pretty much the usual progression...just goes round and round.....it goes from vampire movies to monster movies to slasher films to superhero movies to disaster movies so on and so forth....not in that particular order. Hollywood doesnt really try anything new. You only need a few decades of material and then you just recycle it endlessly....we are already in the third or fourth cycle)

It is so fun for me as a godzilla and kaiju fan for the last 30 years of my life, to hear a fan that's fresh to the franchise talk about how excited these movies make them. The original Showa Era (50's thru 70's time period) films are pretty easy to find these days, the 80s, 90s, and 2000's not so much due to limited releases. But if you want to watch a godzilla film that's as close to a horror film as possible, I highly recommend the 1954 original Japanese version of Godzilla with English subtitles. Where the Legendary films do a good job of portraying godzilla as a force of nature, the 1954 film does a good job of showing godzilla as a living weapon of mass destruction.

Premise of the movie is that after WW2 Japan was reduced to zero, they were devastated after the bombs. Godzilla comes along and makes a bad situation worse. Zero minus one. 0 - 1.

One of the more interesting things is that the director of this movie is a MASSIVE Naval nerd. You see many ships in this trailer which are historically accurate. There's the first, destroyed ship, a Komogawa Maru merchant. The ship which Godzilla sails under is a Kaibokan (Submarine Chaser) There's also Japanese destroyers Yukikaze, Hibiki, Yukaze And of course, the ship which gets the honor of slugging Godzilla in the jaw: Heavy Cruiser Takao

The way I come to think of it. For Godzila’s design in Godzilla minus one he’s more like a mix between Heisei Godzilla and legendary Godzilla for this. Like he has that Heisei sort of look for the face and his body is like somewhat of a look then legendary. I’m just saying. But yeah I do want to see it in American theatres when it comes out in December 1. So yeah👍🏽

Honestly the scariest Godzilla for me was the one that evolves throughout the movie (pretty sure it was shin please correct me if I’m wrong). At first I was scared of the second phase because of the popped out eyes and running on all fours down the street, then I checked further into it, then was mortified. It has a whole chart on its evolutions! The fact that if they didn’t stop it Godzilla would just keep evolving which if you seen the chart would be absolutely terrifying if it did keep evolving in the movie!

2:23 you should’ve seen shin Godzilla, looked way scarier than Godzilla minus one, cause shin Godzilla’s raw muscles were exposed and burning at the same time. Plus his atomic breath is very creepy too! Pretty damn crazy.

I've seen all the Godzilla movies and no, he's never has his plates pop out, then slam back into place before. It almost looks mechanical, like he's engaging some sort of artillery weapon, which is awesome.

I saw the host back in like 2008 or 2009 and was obsessed with it. Shame they never got to make that sequel. I'm a big tokusatsu fan, ultraman, godzilla, gamera, king kong, I've seen just about everything on them. This movie looks soooooo good. This is the Godzilla film I would pitch growing up and hoped for one day. Maybe not verbatim but looks pretty damn close.

Godzilla really tries to communicate with humanity here, soon as he figures out exactly what we are he starts sending messages through the only way he can and that's aggressive physical confrontation because well he can't exactly talk except for back in the showa films.

I think Godzilla communicates in fury, hatred, war, and destruction like the first movie. He's literally the incarnation of the Nuclear bombardment to Japan and a clear message of Anti-nuclear agenda.

So the movie is taking place in Japan right after the end of World War 2, so a lot of the destruction is from the ending of the war and the people are attempting to rebuild. In that case a country is said to be starting at “0”, so when Godzilla shows up to unleash, they are set back to “-1.0”. Also, in relation to the Monsterverse, Gareth Edwards (who directed the other Godzilla films) has seen this movie and is jealous and feels this is the way a Godzilla movie should be, so hopefully this will spur both Toho and the Monsterverse to outdo themselves as they go forward while also making sure to keep a solid story as a part of things.

What I love about Godzilla is that he can represent so many things, a villain who seeks revenge on humanity for changing him into an unnatural abomination, a hero who cares about humanity who holds no grudges on what he's become or a neutral force that only appears for his own interests, but overall, I enjoy him more as a villainous force since that's what he was. He was once a warning about the devastation of nuclear weapons, a nearly unstoppable force that destroyed almost everything in his path and even if you survived his rampage, you'd suffer radioactive contamination and die soon after as your loved ones would cry in disbelieve of your and maybe even their unavoidable fate. It was brutal without having to show anything gory and even now, the fear of nuclear weapons is still alive today. Shin Godzilla and Godzilla Minus One are maybe the closest things a modern audience will get to the original 1954 Gojira film and I look forward to that.

The Ship that godzilla swims under is a Japanese WW2 destroyer. i can't tell which class, but these ships were 110-130 meters long. later in the trailer godzilla punches a Heavy Cruiser of the Takao class, which are 190~ meters long. (excited too see that ship damage godzilla, since the main cannons are pretty devastating)

To answer your question about the spine spikes extending. As far as I am aware no other godzilla design has done that. I havent seen every godzilla movie but I have seen every godzilla design. And that is definately new. Most other designs either just have the spikes light up dont do anything at all emit fire shoot lazers but extending like that is definately a new one.
