For me the saddest part isn't when Bambi's mother dies, but when Bambi's father tells him that his mother is never coming back. For me that is when the death becomes real and the sense of loss sinks in. It's a very quiet and melancholy scene, but also sweet because it's the first time that Bambi's father shows any kind of sympathy or affection towards him.

Out of all of the Disney movies, Bambi has always been my favorite, even as a kid. As a kid, surrounded by loud and bombastic cartoons, Bambi was always different: quiet, respectful, humble, atmospheric, patient, empathetic, and mature. This movie is almost *eighty* years old and it is still holds up magnificently. This is a hot take, but I think that this is Walt Disney’s magnum opus.

One thing I only noticed as an adult: when Bambi is separated from his mother during that first encounter with Man, and he's calling "Mother!" they somehow made his voice sound just the way a fawn's does when it's bleating in distress. How many of us would even THINK to do that? They REALLY cared about this movie.

I can explain the Prince thing. If you read the book by Felix Salten, ALL the male deer are referred to as "Prince." What sets Bambi's father apart is that he is the GREAT Prince, the leader of the herd.

Also the thing about pheasants: they really do stay on the ground as long as possible, they scared a few times, because I was just walking with my dog and suddenly right next to me I hear their wings clap and then they're gone. That's probably another reason why they don't fly away right of the bat: because they are LOUD, like "wtf is there a helicopter next to me, what is happening?" Loud.

Fun fact: a boy in japan was inspired by the movie to become an animator and drew each scene from the movie perfectly screen by screen and later in life became one of the best anime directors in japan. His name was Hayao Miyazaki.

This movie warms people's hearts and makes everyone feel positive on the inside.

So one time, when I was just a baby, my mom dropped me off at my aunts house, so she can go to dinner with my grandma. When they returned to the house, my aunt was confused because she put on a Disney movie for me to watch and I was crying. My mom found out that she put Bambi and told both my aunt and grandma that Bambi’s mom dies. The next hour had them watching the movie, and had all of them crying. Oh I enjoy that story.

In my headcannon, Hunter brought his adult sons to help with hunting. Some of them had more experience than others and campfire could had been responsibility of one of younger, more inexperienced member of family who was more excited of finally being part of hunting group that he forgot to douse the fire, that then burned their tents and equipment. He might have been one that shot Bambi as well. We see how good aim Hunter seems to have earlier, one shot one kill (aside first shot we hear that Bambi and his parents escape), but a near full grown adult Deer only gets scratched on open jump while smaller more nimble birds are being shot midair to death.

As a kid, I was absolutely terrified by the storm scene. Now I find it to be a genius idea to use voices and instruments to recreate nature's sounds like wind and rain

Someone on Twitter recently posed the question, "Who appeared in a Movie for 15 minutes or less but had the greatest impact on the story?" My answer naturally was, "Bambi's Mom".

I love this movie,the characters,the story,and the lesson that nothing stays the same forever and we must go forward with our lives because that's how nature works,and huge applause to Walt Disney for making a movie that nowadays many are afraid to do.

The author of Mary Poppins didn't want her books made into movies either. A lot of authors didn't and a lot, especially, didn't want Disney touching them.

As an animal lover, Bambii is one of my favorite Disney movies. I LOVE how they keep it natural, and real- they add the reality of hunters and how the animals suffer and struggle from it! Everything was believable, while using a captivating art style and sense of emotion (Bambii vs Ronno in the first movie is SO good, and the "I Bring You a Song" scene is beautiful!!). Disney turned a simple concept of a deer growing up in a forest so memorable. I love it

Bambi's Dad reminds me of my Dad being very stern in his voice with out laying a finger on you. That whole scene when Bambi is shot and his Dad The Great Prince tells him to get up. The seriousness was on Point. Old Disney Vs New Disney. Old Disney out shines New with no problem.

The birds... when I was small I remember folks using that to explain the feeling of hiding from nazis... still remember adults that wouldn't watch the movie because of past war trauma.

When you realize... Bambi came out on August 21, 1942... During WW2

On a note about how they changed the story a lot from the original book. That is a common thing Disney did. You have to remember he was trying to create uplifting fare. A lot of old stories are actually pretty brutal to teach lessons to children. And this tendency carries on to this day. The Fox and the Hound, was absolutely NOTHING like the book. Heck that one was so different that they should have saved money and done the movie as it was done and they would have been okay. Even the Little Mermaid was drastically different from the original story.

Reminds me of chirin's bell except it's much, much darker like chirin end up becoming an monster because he was consumed by vengeance and he was raised by his mother's killer an enormous black wolf.

I read the book remember how dark it was, my god it's dark. As a hunter myself I enjoyed this movie even though I hunt the creatures in it. I cry everytime The mom dies (that's weird right.) But in reality I would've felt nothing. This is the power this movie holds. Fantastic movie, watch it a bunch as a kid.

I've enjoyed Bambi since I was a child in the 70's. Back in 75 Disney re-released it in theaters, I was 6 at the time. Yep, wasn't a dry eye in the theater when Bambi's mother died. Back when they made Bambi, and many other animations during that time, the background was on separate movable plates of clear glass with the painted scene on them. Each plate was separated with some distance between them and could be moved closer and farther apart, with the animation on one or more plates, then captured on film. A very time consuming process, but it gave correct fore, middle, and background and a depth to a 2D image on those early films.

It has been decades since I’ve seen this movie, but yes, it is a cinematic masterpiece.

Where my brother lived in NJ where's there is no hunting the deer would walk around without a care. You'd come out to your car and it's like they'd wave and say, "Hey chuck WTF!" In the mid-west the deer would scatter when a human was within a half a mile. In NJ they would jump your fence and drink out of your pool while you were sitting next to it.

When they shoot the deer, hear comes the tears.

This movie was my childhood, the art work is absolutely amazing! The expressions and the emotions, Each animal has its own personality! The sound effects, the smoothness of the animation is Fantástico! And the fact they studied the deer and animals in this film, and the body language! Like the scene where Bambi fights with a rival buck to get to his friend,(she does become his mate and start a family in the other movies I think, idk it's been a while since I've watched it sadly..) The way how the antlers locked is realistic and the noise when the antlers come in contact! Please make more entertaining videos, and keep up the good work :(

Everyone talks about how sad Bambi's mother's death is, but the bird killed right before she's killed traumatized me as a baby. We see her friends reassuring her that if she just stays still, it will be okay, but she panicks, flies away, gets shot, then drops dead right in front of the very friends that tried to keep her safe.

This film is the best Disney Classic of all time I just love how it's from their point of view and those backgrounds I miss seeing those traditional styles.

In 1966 I read the book of Bambi.I was eleven. I saw the movie the same year, with my father and my brothers. Much of Felix Salten's story was not used. IMHO the best scene in the book was in the next-to-last chapter when Bambi and his father are standing next to the body of a dead hunter.(It is implied that Bambi's father killed the hunter.) The Great Prince tells his son,"See,Bambi? He is not really all-powerful. He isn't above us. He's just like we are. He can be killed just like we can." Bambi realizes that,"there is Another who is over us all." Then the Great Prince goes somewhere to die and leaves Bambi as the new leader. This scene is a little too heavy for a Disney movie,eh?(Chuckle!)

Fan Theory: Bambi's Mom was killed by Gaston from "Beauty and the Beast" The Evidence: -Bambi is not set in any specific time period -We never see The Hunter or given any hints as to who they might be -Gaston owns a rifle and is an accomplished hunter -His home is decorated with many animal heads -Gaston doesn't care about anything other than himself, so he probably gives no fucks about killing a Doe I find this theory very comforting because (as we all know) Gaston meets his demise at the end of Beauty and the Beast. Bambi's animation was beautiful. And I don't want to excuse lazy modern animators, but horses are a difficult example. They have different types of gait (trot, canter, gallop, etc.) which have very different movements.

10:45 I think you need to give deer a little more credit. Deer have great ears, they can hear your feet and they know where the shot came from. There eyes are on the sides of there head and have a wide view of what's around them, even in a ghillie suit if you move they will make you out and if the wind changes to put them down wind they will run like a bat out of hell.

My favorite scene sequence in this movie is the first time Bambi see stags for the first time and follows through to the first time man comes (that we as the audience, as well as Bambi, are cognizant of) to the forest. The song they play in the opening credits, “Love is a Song(That Never Ends)” engages as the GPotF leaves the meadow after making his grand entrance, the song is instrumentally played in the background until the point of ‘…Hope may die…’ before trailing off and then you hear the crows calling out a warning that man was approaching, and the the tempo picks up and everything turns to chaos! Truly one of the best (and underrated) conducted *and* animated scenes that exists in movidom ever!

I know I am very late to this video, but watching this movie as a kid was an unusual (and traumatizing) experience, but watching it as an adult was a fascinating and eye-opening experience. This movie is what I would say was the masterpiece of the Walt Disney Animation Studio that nobody ever talks about (save for it being remembered for the wrong reasons). It is in my opinion, now one of my favorite classic animated Disney films to watch, and I was debating on if I should read the original novel by Felix Salten.

I always love Bambi. It's my favorite Disney movie of all time. The cool thing about this film is the music. From beginning to end there is music playing but there is 2 scenes about 10 seconds long where their is no music playing. When Bambi's mother said that man was in the forest and when the dad said his mom is dead. I heart wrenching as they are, it's so well done. You're hearing something the whole time but then there is an absence of sound and it makes your ears almost reaching it sound. In do so makes you really focus on what the characters lines are. One other fact that I love about this film is that they're was then 800 hundred words spoken in this film.

I think the owl is kinda like a 'Silence of the Lambs' type situation. Every night there are 'mysterious disappearances' and they don't know its the owl doing it. Though if they search hard enough, they'll find owl vomit with the bones of their family distributed throughout the woods.

Gonna tell you, I had Bambi on DVD and of course the book written by Felix Salten from a local antique shop along side purchasing The Incredible Journey.

It's hard to believe that this film is now 80 years old, it hasn't aged a day, it's one of the reason that deer are a favorite animal of mine, and I think it actually does the whole Circle of Life thing better than The Lion King. The only flaw I think with the film is that I think it's a bit too short and could have been a bit longer (maybe have the same runtime as Snow White or Pinocchio, and some deleted scenes like one where Bambi meets Faline again in winter should have been kept). The book is very good but it's very bloody and gorey. Never saw Bambi II but heard it's surprisingly good. I shudder to even believe that Disney wants to do a pointless remake of this masterpiece though (although considering most everyone's forgotten that the abysmal _Pinocchio_ remake exists three months after its release, it might be the same for the remake too), I'd rather get gored by an angry buck than see any remake.

I've actually read the sequel but not the original, got something on my to-do list now. Loved the way you broke down those iconic scenes, particularly the one with the pheasant and that feeling of inescapable doom. Would've liked to see your analysis of where Bambi's dad goes back for him before he can get burned alive in the forest fire. That was one that really stuck with me for how a seemingly cruel action/command is trying to save you from death.

Alteori, if you can, please do find and read the original Bambi novel. It's definitely something to behold and adds another layer to Bambi and the Prince's relationship. EDIT: whoops, nevermind... but still, there's a lot of stuff. it's a good read.

The only Disney my kids are gonna grow up with are these movies, I don't care if they end up as furies, it's a worthy sacrifice

What I love most about the movie is how it depicts Man. Man is never seen in this movie, we never see actual humans. Man is treated by the forest dwellers as more like an elemental force, like a force of nature than a living creature: Where Man goes, Death follows. Even when the hunting dogs are released, they don't act like the other animals in the forest, they act like an extension of Man as they persistently, almost mindlessly save for Man's will, pursue the other animals(in this case Faline).

I remember when i found out the movie is based on an honestly pretty intense book.

Ok just a quick memory me and my grandmother, my cousin, and my sister went hiking in this trail and spotted this buck (mail dear) I have never seen something so big it was literally like the size of bambe’s dad biggest antlers I’ve ever seen. We’ll also my grandmother spotted a few yards behind him was a baby fawn so while he watched up we just sat there and watched him for a few minutes. And don’t worry This was a national park so they were used to hikers. But my god was he beautiful I wish I’d see one again because all I see is does that was the only buck I’ve ever seen and I hope there’s still more out there still and not all have been hunted to where they have small antlers as I’ve heard lots of big antlered dear have been dieing out due to hunters only going for them

Early Disney movies i love and appreciate Bambi Dumbo Fox and the Hound Fantasia Cinderella And Pinocchio There are others but the list would prolong on and on

One thing I realized as I grew up and was old enough to know is that Bambi's mother was illegally hunted..When Doe's are giving birth and raising fawns at their yearly times they aren't to be hunted as they obviously COULD have a defenseless baby with them that'll die without mom, to hunt doe's you do it at very specific times and you need very specific tags to do so which are limited or even unavailable. I actually love the conflict in the sequel where Bambi has to fight for his girl! Deer naturally when wanting to mate the same female with fight and the winner gets to take her, so it was accurate, and why not make it the only other male deer we're seen of their age that didn't like Bambi before?

I watched this when I was 5 with my Dad. All he could do was complain about the incompetence and the unprofessional behavior of the hunters. I took notes. I said, “Daddy, when can we go hunting?” He was a proud father. 15 yrs later I finally got that deer.
