You got me interested in watching this within the fist 2 minutes, then you played the water scene with that thing watching them and while I agree the visuals look great and it make a good horror moment, just the idea of that being me had me saying nope repeatedly. I'd have died must from looking at it in that setting.

That “Knuckle walking” thing, in my theory, is because one of animals referenced for the Red Bluster’s design are sea lions, which have a similar stance when on land.

The punishment for Captain Crow is that he lost everything, he lost Jacob, the Red Bluster, his ship, his crew, his life and finance, like the crazy lady said when he took her weapon and poison, it'd cause him everything he had. Overall, I really like this movie, and the people from Big Hero 6 and Moana worked on it!

7:49 in theory, its very possible that the Red Bluster is an anphibian, since there are some scenes when it walks on land. So yeah, not only it looks like a salamander but it probably is one. Extra evidence: we've seen that it has no gills so its not a fish.

The whole lesson in it and her speech to the townspeople at the end reminded me of Hiccup’s argument with his father after he found out about Toothless in the first movie. “They’ve killed *hundreds* of us!” “And we’ve killed *thousands* of them!”

When you think about how this movie ended, that could've been what the witch meant when she told that captain that using the weapon would cost him everything. No doubt that the weapon lead to them bringing Red to the royal capital, that would lead to their exposure and ending the war between humans and sea beasts. This would no doubt cause the Cro's hunters to disband and leave Crow without his vengeance and probably cause him to reflect on his actions and decisions, as he has truly lost everything he has fought for, just not in the way he truly feared.

Sad that this movie isn't getting the big spotlight, like not everyone knows about it, literally hidden gem!

One of my favorite things about this movie is the level of detail that they put, especially in the monsters designs. You don't see them being all completely smooth instead, when you look closer, you can actually see they possess a couple of faded nicks and scars all over their body, like the in Brickleback's hide(aside from the visible damage it took from cannon fire), the shell of the giant purple crab, and even in Red's horn. It's a subtle thing, but one I appreciate nonetheless because of how it gives them character, it shows that in the first time we see them, it isn't their first rodeo, and that they've gone up against other monsters and hunters before and lived to tell the tale. It's just cool man

The 3D modelling and animation was the best I’ve seen in awhile. The hair and the fabric was almost perfect. So much to look at.

It’s not the difference of air pressure actually. There’s a clear flap ruby/red uses that let’s air back in. Some animals do have a protective membrane over their nostrils to prevent water from getting in, i swear i just love ruby/red even more!

While there are similarities with this and HTTYD, there is something I wanna point out, and it’s why humans and sea monsters fought. With HTTYD, the dragons were controlled by the Red Death, who forced them into serving her and finding food. That led to the conflict with the Vikings. In this case, the Vikings were justified in fighting back as they were on the defensive. But the dragons aren’t to blame as they’re being controlled(not like the Bewilderbeast method, but still dragon commands). With the Sea Beast, it’s kinda the opposite. Here, the Sea Monsters are the ones on defense here, and the humans are the ones who struck first. And this was all because a king and queen(and subsequently the Crown itself) painted the sea monsters as threats just to extend their rule. Kinda like the Red Death. While there are similarities, there’s a bit of a swap on who’s defense, and who’s offense. I also wanna point out something. In HTTYD, it was ONE human who managed first eye-to-eye contact with their respective animal partner. Here, it’s two humans. There’s also the fact that while Dragons have covered areas like land, sea, and air(thanks to them being dragons), the Sea Monsters are limited to the sea(and land for some of them). With that, the action is slightly different. Another is that while HTTYD focuses on essentially the heir to the Berkian throne(that being Hiccup), the Sea Beast focuses on two ordinary people. And yes, both of them wouldn’t be exactly normal people if they fought dragons, but they’re not of any bloodline that’s like royalty. And also, SPOILER ALERT, the ending kinda plays out more like Luca’s ending with how they resolved the monster-hating population conflict. Though this time it was by revealing the truth, as opposed in Luca in which they revealed that Sea Monsters aren’t that bad. And that some have already made themselves in society. Just thought I point that out.

Honestly the beast being red really makes it stand out in its scenes in the water but also seem like it belongs there like the red helps it blend it kind of thing, it’s hella cool! Honestly, it’s design choice was perfect

I think the CONSEQUENCES that Captain Crow got... is actually loosing his son and his legacy being cancelled as a monster hunter. He gets no victory. He was returned with nothing and regret. The witch didn't specify anything, but it is true that every deal has an outcome

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Definitely feels like How To Train Your Dragon but it was very fun and I liked it a lot. Red the Red Bluster was such a cool creature and gave me toothless vibes lol just by her facial expressions. I hope we get more on this show like a mini series or something. Also the creature designs were really cool as well. So were the characters. Captain Crow hunting for the Red Bluster reminded me of Captain Ahab hunting for Moby Dick

I think captain crow actually lost everything. His crew, his son, his job. That's the consequence for his fixation on revenge.

The captains consequence is that he lost his ship, his crew, his very way of life being a hunter, and his son. He lost it all, he was left with nothing at the end of the movie because being a hunter and that life style consumed him. Now that he doesn't have that, he doesn't even have his son anymore, because his drive to kill pushed him away. Those were his consequences and now he must live with them all

6:00 - 7:00 I agree, that scene is absolutely terrifying. It's nightmare fuel to be in the situation of being in a large dark body of water and knowing there's something else in there with you MUCH bigger than you are.

I like how the world is filled with Water like One Piece and also love how Mazy hair was detailed with all that curls and such.

When Maisie stopped Red from wanting to devour Captain Crow it reminded me back when hiccup stopped toothless from killing his father. There were so many httyd references in this movie, which is a reason why I loved it so much.

Honestly this is a lot different from most movies lately, in which the main characters are actually shown to have intense injuries. (The stitches on Jacob, the bleeding from Maisie, and many more.) And agreed it COULD be a horror movie if anyone edited it, especially the scene where Captain Crow was dragged down the depths of the ocean

Saw that movie yesterday, definitely a 7 or 8 for me easy They actually managed to make a lil girl protagonist that's not utterly annoying, Good job Netflix

The green one with tentacles looks kinda like the gargantuan leviathan bones in Subnautica. Fun fan theory that this is an ancient version of the Subnautica world and the people become the architects as they advance their technology.

I’m really gonna need a sequel to find out what happened to crow…cause I don’t feel like he was really a truly bad guy he was just consumed by anger and vengeance…I felt bad for him for losing everything and I’d love to see a sequel where we have some closure between him and Jacob

I don't know what I was expecting, but the moment Red became friends with Maisie I just accepted what was coming. Pretty good overall, the only minor thing I can complain is about how smooth Red looks

I don’t have Thalassophobia, but honestly speaking, if I’m in a body of water that literally exceeds it’s limits, and theirs something huge as hell swimming up to me, then I would definitely be terrified. Just imagine seeing an eye of a creature, then seeing it’s entire body hover over or under you. That’s scary as hell

I liked the movie. The story was good and the monster design where pretty cool for a kids movie. They're somewhat scary not too cartoony . I also liked how much gory and serious they went in terms of blood and death scenes wich you rarely see in kids movies

I adored the design of that green sea beast! Had such a classic dragon-like head shape. Red was okay, very viper-like head, but it's a girl so of course she's all smooth and much more seal-like. Would have preferred following Green TBH. Overall enjoyed the movie; I liked the character designs and they all felt like they fit in the same world. Agreed that this would have been a WAY cooler followup to HTTYD, but oh well.

One other thing I wanna point out. I like how Red actually looks... feminine. You can see it in the shape of her eyes, mostly. Like, she's clearly feminine, but she's also a badass, and just as clearly radiates power. I just love the designs of the monsters.

The creepy part of this film is how red was just looking at jacob and maisie and went down in the ocean completely disappeared and than came back to save them both from captain crow aka black beard look alike

After watching this movie twice i realized crow does loose everything, he looses his son, his legacy, his ship, and the career he and his family thrived in is dead. Hes lost everything of worth to him.

Just watched the movie after of the hearing it from this video. And I 100% agree, this would've made more sense as a sequel to the "How to Train Your Dragon" franchise. Had me truly excited and hope they consider continuing the story somehow.

To be honest, I can see this movie branching to becoming a beloved franchise, kinda like HTTYD. Heck, it might have it's own TV series on Netflix. Man, I would definitely watch it.

She never said that it would be a bad thing for anyone else. She said that she'll take it all away from him.

Animation, voicework and score in this were totally incredible. But yeah the main beast had definite Toothless vibes to it.

HTTYD was mostly about the dragons though. this film featured sea beasts, but it was about how people perpetuate their own problems, it has way more heart than style. it's weird how focused people are about comparing them when the aesthetic is the closest thing

Yeah I enjoyed this film too, It really does give out a How to train your dragon vibe, especially when you look at the creature designs, Mainly Red's design which kinda does resemble our favorite night fury friend with the way she grins and flashes her teeth similar to how Toothless does it, but her full design also reminds me of a Sea lion.

I don't know if they meant Blue to be a baby version of Red, maybe the males are blue kind of thing. But after getting to know Blue, I started calling it a "Pudge guppy."

I love this movie so much! It does such a good job of painting a clear picture of how the world is seen by people, and then when there are inconsistencies shown, the reality sinks in pretty much immediately for the audience and our protagonist. I love that it takes work to get other characters to change their perspective gradually, and with some people, they have to skip over it and blunt force their way to the objective when the cards are down. Can't recommend this enough.

This being How to Train Your Dragon in the future actually makes a lot of sense as Titan class dragons wouldn't have gone to the Hidden World, giving them time to evolve and become more terrifying, while also losing some of their abilities

Very solid. Watched it with my kids. Great visuals, animation and voice acting, with enough to seperate it from Httyd. We all, quite rightfully, give Netflix a lot of shit, but rhey do deliver some quality im the sea of mediocrity. Never forget how damn good Klaus is.

Now that I think about it, this movie seems like it established quite a bit of content that could be fleshed out in a sequel. Like for example who is the witch and why does she specialize in killing monsters? And what does she actually take from those she helps? And then there is Blue who seems sorta like she's Red's baby but like it's also possible that she's an entirely different species. In fact a while storyline could be written with blue growing up and how that affects Maisie and Jacob. And also like what she even grows up to be is up for debate so it's really interesting! It's also very interesting to me that in a children's movie we see a father so blinded by hatred and fear that he seems to want to kill his only son 2 times, and it's obvious he loves him. And yet he could one hundred percent be redeemed despite what he did. Captain Crow is a good father with a huge flaw that threatens everything, it's so complex I just absolutely love it!!!

To be fair, Captain Crow DID kind of loose everything in the end. His ship, his crew, his title as a Hunter, his LEGACY of a Hunter, his revenge and the only person he saw as a son. In the end, the witch was right.

I finally figured out why I like Alteori's reviews so much, this video showed me. It's because no matter the medium, film, animated, or CGI her reviews are filled with reverence and emotion. Let's face it there are thousands of reviewers but what brings me back to Alteori is her amazing cat avatar lol and just how much of the story she sees. Many would see here, just an animated movie for kids. Yet Alteori is talking about how the dragon's flipper evolved and that Crow has this attachment to Joe and the creature woke up groggy and on and on, for Alteori, she can see the whole story, things many of us would never contemplate Alteori sees and brings to her vids and that is why I enjoy this channel so much. Ps. So I got the names wrong, lol, it's because I was interrupted while typing, so I just wished to come back here and apologize to Alteori for getting the names of the crew wrong. She works so hard on these videos the least I can do is get the names right, lol. So to you Alteori whether you see this or not I offer my sincere apologies. Best animation of the year, Imo. Hands down. Honestly, it's 10 times better than what Disney has been churning for the last years, I loved it. The characters were well written, the designs are great, the story flows really nicely and all scenes are just amazing. You're pumped just by the first 20min of the movie, and it never gets boring! This movie alone got me hopes that we might start seeing a new wave of high-quality stories, let's hope it doesn't die too soon.

I watched The Sea Beast and it was incredible and so cool! Totally gave me How to Train your Dragon vibes! Imagine this show having a spin-off tv series like with DreamWorks Dragons, and how it could explore different kinds of sea beasts. Better yet, this movie should have a sequel.

Knowing captain crow, I actually thought he was going to shoot her. I realized after you talked about the woman crow makes a deal with, this movie leaves a lot unanswered and that makes me think they want to leave an opening for a show.

I have mixed feelings about this movie. Yes, there’s absolutely no question about whether it was inspired by How to Train Your Dragon or not. You could see where the story was going from a mile away and Red’s expressions are very similar to Toothless. But honestly.. That’s ok! It’s hard to make a good movie completely from scratch and I’m alright with people taking inspiration from other films as long as it’s not a blatant ripoff. I was IMMEDIATELY blown away by the animation as soon as it started. And the voice acting was on par. It felt like the voice actors were grabbed straight out of the 1800’s and you could feel the emotion coming off the characters. Yes the pacing of the movie was a bit weird and it feels like a big part of the story is missing. And there were also some side characters that felt like they were pretty useless to the actual story, but I don’t think it’s right to completely rip into this movie and not give credit where credit is do. Overall I really enjoyed it and it’s a great movie to watch in your spare time.

I never thought Blue sounded like a Compy, that's such a good comparison! I was so emersed in the movie feeling like How To Train Your Dragon that I thought Blue sounded like a Terrible Terror in one of my favorite scenes from the first movie. Where Hiccup comments that "Everything we know about you guys is wrong", where in this movie as well, that line holds true.

I loved this movie so much, was an absolute blast to watch. It was written well, the characters were cool and the movie is just gorgeous to look at. I had a smile on my face from beginning to end when watching this. And I still have that catchy as hell sea shanty from the credits stuck in my head.

My family and I watched this movie yesterday and the first thing that came to our mind after watching it was Monster Hunter. We enjoyed this movie alot.

I watched it with my kids the other day and was pleasantly surprised! Yes, it had "Dragon" vibes, but in the best of ways. The animation, the character designs, and story were all very well fleshed out. I'll be watching it again (I missed the first part only because I put it on for the kids) and will enjoy it further :)

I loved a lot from this movie, with just a few complaints. But if I had to choose a thing that would be the intense and visceral moments with Captain Crow and Red (the editing and the score were simply superb when close to the ending the he hunts her). If you are a fan of Moby Dick, this is your movie.

I finally got the chance to watch this movie. This was actually really good. This is one of those animated films for FAMILIES. Not just parents with kids, but even adults. It has an original story with original creatures. Nothing felt forced and it didn’t try to hard to be fun and stuff. Captain Crow was a beast himself, and they weren’t shy to portray that. I liked it.

I enjoyed this movie as well and would like them to do more perhaps exploring what's past the Draugmar or however it's spelled, 20/10 best monster crab design of 2022 and they made it purple and black my favorite color combo. There's not enough monster crabs in media

Watched it and I think I understand why the creature is so smooth maybe, or have a theory. It might be easier to animate (which would probably lower cost of animating it?) but also, Red might be a specific type of creature. The skin is thick and almost plate like in some areas, yet smooth. She is seen to ram into things quite often, maybe how slick her scales are not only make it easy to move agile and fast, but also to not get caught on things she’s rammed through. Also the point of the head looking like a salamander could maybe support some of my thoughts, maybe she is more salamander or amphibian like and so scales would be less likely? I liked some of the details on her though, there are some slight cracks in different areas and scuff masks on the front of the horn. Could also just be a species thing or a design thing. (Less things to grab onto means less things possibly lost in a fight.) I wish there was a bit more explanation on how the war started, I get the message of it being more important how it ended, but it could end up being another movie explaining what happened. Also the captain seemed to have a lot of wish for vengeance for just his dead light/eye been taken? It seems like there might’ve been more lost but I’m unsure. So many cool stories which could be told with this universe, such as the story of the monarch. Though I do wonder what the ‘everything’ the captain was supposed to lose is, because he almost maybe gained a new insight, and lost everything that he was but became someone new. Some of the small details like sparks off a rock were cool to see also. Overall I really enjoyed this movie. I like how they weren’t afraid to show some gore/blood, and how when the child got hurt it was realistic with her needing some blood transfusions. Also I think the military guard is female maybe? Could be wrong. Enjoyed the story and how there was some character development and character representation. Thanks for another great video!
