WATCH OUR LIVE RECAP: • GINGER RUNNER LIVE #37...
On October 18th, 2014, Kimberley Teshima attempted to run her very first ultramarathon - The Oregon Coast 50k. Despite putting in long hours on the trails while balancing a full-time job, Kim ran into a number of unforeseen issues. From endless dry-heaving and anxiety to full body cramping and racing to meet time cut-offs, this course put her to the test. I went along for the ride and tried to capture as much of it on film as possible.
A special thank you to the Rainshadow Running crew for putting on such an incredible inaugural event. We cannot wait to run more of their races!

8 years later and I am getting ready to walk the Bolder Boulder today (first time as a walker always run before.) It has been a rough couple of years following the loss of my Mom to Lewy Body Dementia but I am ready to rally and regain my health and fitness. And I decided to watch again this Ginger Runner film "Altering Expectations" to get the mojo I needed to be ok with being a walker, being grossly out of shape.....but dammit......on the path to get back the person I was. Both Kim's journey and Ethan's masterful capture of the emotions and the beauty just helps me feel "not alone", ok to "manage by expectations" and just enjoy the journey of getting back to eventually hiking then running the trails I love in Colorado. THANK YOU so much for this! I love Kim's smile at the end and I am holding in my own mind that I will be smiling when I finish walking 6.2 miles ....... knowing and feeling tired but my body is more capable than I give it credit for.

This was the first film I watched that inspired me to inspire me to start chasing my 50k. I accomplished that dream and stepped away from running for some years due to life. I've returned to the video that got it all started to get the fire started again. Thank you, Ethan and Kim, this film is truly a gift.

Kim you are an amazing beautiful young women and Ethan you are an excellent videographer. I have recently started to follow your Vlogs after watching Jamil's and Billy Yang's videos. You have become an inspiration to me. I hope your movie comes to San Diego. I started surfing in 1968. Started running in the 70s, Triathlons/Biathlons throughout the 80s. Mtn Biking thru the 90s and 2000s. Was a vegetarian for 10 years, always ate healthy. Then July 11, 2017, I suffered two heart attacks within three hours. One minor, the other massive. The doctor said it was the strength of my heart that kept me alive. The EMT said I should be sleeping in dirt!!! Today is 12 weeks after my surgery. I went back to work four weeks ago. I hike every weekend up to 13 miles on Saturday, then 6 miles of climbing on Sunday. I had Plantar Fasciitis for years but I think hiking steep trails stretched them out. So with your inspiration I plan to do the C2C hike this winter or early spring. Then some time start trail running again. I have tried running on a treadmill but the surgery just hasn't healed enough yet. But it felt great to run. Two times on the treadmill and two days after I paid the price. Running felt great, but the surgery really destroyed my chest. The heart was stronger but the chest plate, mussels take a little longer to heal. They tell me six months. So....... you never know!!! Live your life clean, but it may attack you too. I will be back hiking the PCT and trail running soon with your inspiration. Keep the videos coming.

Inspiring. Im 30lbs over weight, struggling to jog run on the treadmill to get back in shape, and I'm watching this video. Hooked. And then she is asked if she can do the last leg. The moment she said yes, I literally teared up and cried a little on the treadmill. When she was vulnerable and hated that she was being filmed, the moment was raw and touching. Thank you for sharing this story.

I've watched this video many times and I wanted to finally thank you for making such an honest, raw video. When I was out for my first double digit run on an intense technical trail I thought about this video. I thought about how Kim's perseverance helped her push through all the doubt and the insecurities. It helped me to keep going and finish my longest run so far. So thanks Kim and Ethan, you guys inspire me to push through.

I relate to this so much. This gave me tears to watch. Hugs to you Kim. The year I did Oregon Coast 50K there was a storm warning and we weren't even really supposed to be running on the beach that morning. I heard later that the winds were like 40+ mph, and by the time I got to the first aid station I felt so incredibly sick... and then the puking started, and I couldn't shake it. I got to the second aid station white as a ghost and the volunteers made me sit down and told me I was done. That course and I have unsettled business! Your fighting spirit makes me so eager to sign up for this again and get my redemption! I was literally cheering and crying and cheering some more! Great video! Thank you guys for the amazing video! So inspired now.

Not a dry eye to be found. Seeing Kim push so hard, makes me want to push even more. To see what can be achieved. Not to give up, not to back down, to fight for every single step. To finish. Time not important, the experience is important. Well done Kim.

Superb film and amazing journey. It's so nice to watch a running video where someone doesn't just sale through a big distance at ease, I've been so close to DNF's a few times and its always felt like I was the only one struggling, but everyone has their own battles. Kimberly, you rock, well done!

Jeez I have tears in my eyes as I watch this. It's not about being the fastest, it's about you, and your body and mind. Your own challenge and your own experience, which is such a personal thing. Races like that break you down, throw you around a bit until you think you're finished and leave you feeling low........and then magically you are rebuilt and empowered and you DO IT!! Well done girl! You pushed hard and you did it. Kudos and keep going! :D x

This was gorgeous. Both the film itself and Kim's journey. I cheered and teared up through the run with her and that last bit, when she says it's not about the time,it's not about how long it took her... she did it. That is inspiring to a new runner like myself training for her first half marathon. Congrats to you Kim and well done on the film, Ethan.

I've watched this a couple of times. I really liked it. I was really impressed with Kim's perseverance when things really didn't go her way. It just goes to show that even with the best preparation things can go wrong, but that guts and determination can get you through anything if you just face it head on. Top video. I think the music on this video is really good too, I'll be buying it when I get home.

Simply AMAZING! Thank you Kimberly and Ethan. I will be running my first full marathon in 4 weeks and find myself with a butterfly stomach each time I go for a run. Kimberly, you have inspired me to take on the same approach. You are right, "it's not about the time..." and "if you can put one foot in front of the other, there is no excuse to drop out". I hope my first marathon changes my life as this Ultra has obviously done for you. Truly remarkable. Love the filming Ethan. Congratulations to you both! Christ on a bike, that went from bad to worse in a very short space of time. Nervous energy is still energy used and once its gone its gone. One time or another we've all been there so top marks for digging in a finishing.

Good job Kim! Got my first 50km done this year in the North Face Endurance Challenge at Blue Mountain ,Collingwood in Ontario. It was tough and this movie brought back lots of memories. I think I'll try this one out in 2015!
