In the 1980's the Soviets sent troops into Afghanistan. It changed everything. You know what it is. So what if that never happened? Here is one short and sweet scenario. Twitter: / althistoryhub

All mentions of wars within SCP-6372 in history books or public news are to be edited out with [DATA EXPUNGED]. *Description:* SCP-6372 is the nation of Afghanistan. SCP-6372’s anomalous properties manifest whenever a foreign nation attempts to intervene with it’s affairs or invade SCP-6372. SCP-6372-1’s will launch attacks against countries intervening in SCP-6372 and are extremely hostile towards Foundation personnel. I think our invasion was better justified, but done in the wrong way. It should have probably lasted 6-12 months at most, with us blocking all of Bin Laden's escape routes (we had visuals of him there) and then hunting him down until he and his partners were destroyed. Some Europeans have said we should have restored the Afghan monarchy rather than try a republic, since the monarchy would symbolize we respected their history (thus winning over more of the factions) AND would be more effective in unifying them. We'll never know for sure, but maybe it would have been better. At least Bin Laden is dead and countless Al-Qaeda folks with him. Nonetheless, a VERY frustrating result for the 20 ridiculous years.

@pietersteenkamp52414 жыл бұрын
@@Dairko The Iraqi government never invited the USA to enter it nor did Libya, nor did Afghanistan. When the USSR entered Afghanistan it was after years of the legal government that had just been deposed ( if i recall) calling for the USSR to help it fight foreign aided rebels. Of course the USSR understood there were legitimate problems with how the leftist in Afghanistan were running things and declined to prevent escalation but ultimately they realized the USA were going to escalate so they did too. When can discuss if the Soviet decision to enter/invade was strategically sound but only in the context that the USA were ALREADY involved and creating serious problems for the soviet supported government.
@pietersteenkamp52414 жыл бұрын
@I HATE TOUCANS It was the same sort of mess that would have taken place if the USSR had started providing weapons and intelligence to a communist insurgency after Mexico had succumbed to a coup by fascist plotters bent on nationalizing all American owned industry.... The way the USSR reacted was ultimately clearly not beneficial to them but Afghanistan did border them and the USA had already picked the side of people that could not improve Afhanistan's future any more than the Soviet intervention did. In either case the Soviet response is FAR more understandable than American interventions on other continents against countries that never threatened American 'security' unless of course security is taken to mean global hegemony.

According to Gorbachev the reason that the USSR fell was because the Chernobyl disaster destroyed the faith that the populace had that their leaders knew what was going on and would look after them. As such, Cody is correct that the USSR would still fall.
@thunderbird19212 жыл бұрын
I just wonder if Gorbachev kept the USSR from collapsing in 1991 (say Chernobyl doesn't happen or is a smaller accident), would they have become like modern China? Obviously Gorbachev would have still sacrificed a lot of their western influence sphere to keep things afloat (Poland, East Germany, etc.).
@qui-gonjinn3322 Жыл бұрын
If you trust Gorbachev, maybe. But I know for sure that a single nuclear disaster is not enough to annihilate a superpower. A devastating war on the other hand, is quite enough. USSR may still fall, but much later.

@@notme8232 Honestly Gorbachev should've at least tried to check on how China did to make sure that their transition to free market system works properly to their communist ruling country. Also, Gorbachev should've fix their ties with China already if they wanted to survive longer in the modern world, maybe could create a great economy bloc of the communist alliance (which I hope that the US doesn't feel threatened again, especially under Ronald Reagan and his "Reaganomics", unless the movement was able to make the US much more open with them, probably ending the Cold War in a better way without risking the dissolution of the Soviet Union, who knows) Shame that Perestroika movement is such a terrible implementation of free market in Soviet by him, that's causing the Soviets to falled and changed into what is known today as Russia Federation.

There's an interesting dichotomy between Cody and Tyler. They both see how fucked the world is. Cody gets frustrated, he seems to hang on to the notion that there is some reason and order in the world but that people keep fucking things up, and that it just keeps getting worse. Tyler is broken, he doesn't see the world as having ever been good or reasonable, that it's just a chaotic mess and will always be that way. Their videos reflect this mindset. Cody's have a annoyed yet serious tone and cover topics that have lead to the sad current state. Tyler's are chaotic, yet playful even if sad, and discuss the inherent fuckedness of the topics and how there's no escape, a broken optimist who hasn't fallen fully to the dispair.

Wonderful video, Cody. What if the Mongols successfully invaded India, Japan and Vietnam? I.e. the Chagatai Khanate conquers the Delhi Sultanate and the Yuan Dynasty absorbs Vietnam into its territory. Lastly the Yuan Navy/Armies sweep through Japan and conquers it + consolidates Mongol influence/power in Japan. What if the Hausa Kingdoms repel/defeat the Sokoto Caliphate? I assume that they would probably unite to resist British Colonial Interests in Northern Nigeria. Alternate Countries/Factions Ideas = Hausa Union Empire* (I think it would have Kanuri, Tiv, Fulani and Gbagyi peoples in it) Delhi Khanate* (A Khanate forming out of the Chagatai Khanate and conquering most of the Indian Sub-continent) Viet Khanate (Basically a khanate consisting of modern-day vietnam)
