MUST SEE: SNAKE ATTACKS RABBIT FROM BEHIND (Myakka, FL)

Trailing through Lower (Little ) Lake Myakka, FL, I found myself witnessing feeding time between a eastern diamondback rattle snake and a Florida brown rabbit. I have walked this trail several times now, but this was the first time that I came across a snake, not to mention a 6 foot rattle snake. I'm pretty sure the rabbit had been injured (perhaps bitten by the snake) before I witnessed the attack.

All of you guys saying he could've helped the rabbit are wrong. It's obvious the rabbit was already envenomated prior to the video since it was abnormally slow and spasming. In the description the uploader posted it clearly states that the rabbit was already acting like it was bitten prior. Even if he did rescue the rabbit it would've succumbed to the venom regardless. Sad but true. Also you guys are assholes for wanting to deny the snake his hard earned meal, it doesn't matter how cute the rabbit is. The snake still worked hard to kill the rabbit so it could eat it.

I live in texas and have been an outdoorsman my entire life. I can validate for everyone watching this video that is a massive rattlesnake. I've come across probably 100 + and have seen maybe 2 or 3 at this caliber. awesome video, thanks for posting. and for who ever is reading this comment there's a species of snake in texas that actually kills and eats rattlesnakes. They are called blue indigo and they are much bigger than this snake. check it out on KZfaq it's pretty dam cool.

Clay Gillespie , The blue indego & the Texas blacksnakes are actually KINGSNAKES. Which come in a multitude of colors & sub species. ALL are designed to hunt down & kill/eat rattlers. They have a natural immunity to venom & are the counter balance to the vipers. Really pissed me off while living in Texas to see the morons killing EVERY snake they saw. They were killing the very snakes that were PROTECTING them from the venomous ones.

Good tip Clay, thanks, I'll look. I was pretty impressed that the snake in the video was going to eat that whole entire damned rabbit in one gulp, wow, thanksgiving and Christmas dinner combined. Should last it a long time. I learned, like you, that if one is going to claim to appreciate nature, it makes no sense to pass judgement on animal behaviors based on a human moral code. However it does seem to make more sense to interpret it terms of the lack of morality of some people. NO morals, ethics, hesitation, just survival. Sobering considerations. I'm likewise an outdoorsman, and its my privilege and pleasure to live out in the open beautiful Sonoran desert. Noting edible goes to waste, ever, and by that I do include things that most humans would never consider edible. I've been surprised a few times.

Absolutely beautiful snake! Definitely looks like the rabbit had already been bitten. People always seem to be quick to kill a rattlesnake when they come across one. If you ever see one in the wild, they're usually trying to get out of your way. Just give them their space. I worked with a survey crew for 2 years in college. We would see them a lot. If we surprised one and it coiled, we would just take a few steps back, it would calm down, and it would haul butt to get out of there. Watermoccasin on the other hand.....

Missed the one year anniversary, but better late than never. Thanks for all the views and comments (even from so-called haters). Just wanted to say a few things from my perspective. For the record, the video was shot as is, without special effects, manipulation and absolutely no (other than the camera) influence on the animals. I understand that it may not be easy to watch video, but this activity is 100% natural and could teach a thing or two about nature. Look at it from an educational objective point-of view and refrain from judgement. Thank you for your viewership and enthusiasm.

Thank you Jeremy, your observation of the event is exactly correct, this is life in the wild. And regarding the nice people who have negative judgment, what you see in the video takes place every day in the rabbit and rattlesnake environment. Rattlesnakes have their own predation to deal with in the wild. They are preyed upon by; eagles, hawks, crow/raven, wolf, coyote, fox, wild boar, mountain lion, bobcat, skunk, raccoon, weasel, other snakes -- all of which dine on the rattlesnake for survival... it's life in the wild. And there is one more predator, and is by far the *most* destructive to the rattlesnake of all... it's no secret... the worst predator of the rattlesnake is man. Rattlesnakes die at the hand of evil men day in and day out for no reason and complete abandonment and respect of nature.

To answer a recurring question I'm seeing. A snakes venom can be just as deadly to itself as it is to its prey. All venom is simply a mix of proteins, enzymes and polypeptides. During the digestion process the venom is broken down and rendered harmless. As long as there are no cuts or sores in the digestive tract for the venom to enter the blood before it is broken down, there is no harm at all. There are a few species known to produce their own antivenom, to an extent, to help in case they ever accidentally bite themselves. Even a human can drink snake venom. If you have no cuts in your mouth or ulcers in your stomach / esophagus you'll be fine. Please don't actually try this, as it would be a horrific way to die (especially if the venom is hemolitic) if you did have an ulcer or cut for the venom to get into.

Seeing so many dislikes on this video represents the intelligence of average viewers. Spectacular to have caught this event on camera. Even if the snake crawled away at the beginning of the video -- the rabbit was still dead. I suppose the dislikers do not eat.

I don't think the poster is aware of the condition of the rabbit. The rabbit is behaving as if poisoned (snake venom). The condition the rabbit is in, anyone could walk right up to the rabbit and picked it up by it's ears. I don't think the poster is aware of how wild rabbits behave in open spaces. Rabbits are constantly on alert for danger with their heads held high in the normal sitting position. This rabbit is behaving sluggish and not too aware of the surroundings. The poster mentions he has walked the trail before and this is the first time he came across a snake. Oh, yes, not to mention a six foot rattle snake. Redundant, mentioned at the beginning: Eastern Diamondback rattle snake. But he goes ahead and mentions it! Yes, if this is the first time you came across any snake in your walks, why would you mention, not to mention, the length? Why not say, for the first time on my many walks, I saw a "six foot diamondback rattle snake" attacking a brown rabbit? There is no feeding time between the rabbit and the snake. Think about it; would there be feeding time between you and a lion in the same situation? I think not! I think you're suffering the after effects of a venomous snake bite. I know it's been some time, Go see a doctor!

I hate snake haters. This is not a case of a cold-blooded murderer killing a cuddly rabbit. They are both integral parts of the food web... two players in the ongoing game of predator and prey. The death of the rabbit gives life to the snake... that's how the ecosystem works. Nature is neither cruel nor kind. To interfere on behalf of the rabbit, or the rattlesnake, would be to do a serious disservice to this ongoing natural process. The push and pull between predator and prey is one of the surest natural forces at work in any ecosystem... and unfortunately, the rabbit, all too often, falls into the role of the prey. If it wasn't a diamondback, it'd be a coyote or a bobcat. Tomorrow, the diamondback may fall prey to a hawk. It's the circle of life, dawg.

What about someone out for a hike or walk and don’t see the venomous creepy crawler and get bite snakes are very deadly and dangerous and people are told that for a reason anything that will bite you just for getting to close with the possibility of killing you should be hunted and killed especially poisonous snakes
@theotterone4111
@theotterone4111 4 жыл бұрын
By killing the snake, you would have two dead animals on your hands due to your stupidity. The rabbit had already been previously bitten, that's why the snake was approaching it so easily. "Saving" the rabbit wouldnt have "saved" it. You would have just taken a meal away from an animal that could easily die without that meal. There is no telling if it would have the strength to go hunting for more food.. it isnt easy for predators to hunt, especially with other predators and humans interfering. If you have something against snakes, you should also be against all predator animals including cats and dogs. Predator animals kill prey. End of story. If they didnt eat meat they would literally die. Dont be a snowflake and think taking animals from predators are saving them. By "saving prey" you're giving them a chance to ruin the environment. So many, fun, uneducated, people in the comments.

I know it would have taken quite a long time, but it would have been interesting to see the snake down the rabbit. That's a pretty good size meal for that snake. No need for those who commented how awful this was and how they would have killed the snake, etc, etc, etc to be chastised any further. What was captured here happens every single day of the week all over the world. Why? Just because that's the way nature intended.

For everyone saying you would kill the snake and saying the guy recording is a bad person. I find it would be worse to interfere with it. Just think if that snake has others to feed if he would have stopped the snake all the other snakes would have gone hungry. I mean seriously do you only think about the cuter animals. Most reptiles don't feed other reptiles, I think there may be one lizard species that brings food to its babies. There's at least one species of rattlesnake, the arizona black rattlesnake, that cares for her young after they're born. The babies stay with their mother for up to two weeks after they're born and the mother snakes will babysit each others babies, there's pictures of a pregnant arizona black rattler guarding her nestmate's babies
