I actually started reading about this species and found two interesting things: 1, it's actually better to feed them live and wait because 2, they tend to be picky af about their food. And since you can be in there fucking with it for an hour while it decides to hunt or not (because it's venemous) it's advisable to just leave live prey.

But doesn't that risk rodent bites. I've seen some pretty bad scarring on snakes from live prey
@RingsOfSolace2 жыл бұрын
@@charliehancock3534 it does generally speaking with most snakes, but from what I was reading, this particular one is already a picky eater, and will wait before catching its prey. @Desu-Desu-Chan-San2 жыл бұрын
I own three wild caught westerns as well as a few captives and I have had no issues feeding them frozen thawed rats. You just need to get them to the right temp and let the snake strike it before dragging the rat to the opposite corner of the enclosure. I'm not an expert on reptiles, but I'm pretty sure this is a feeding tub, not the snakes actual home. It's not necessarily cruel because snakes eat ...well meat and so do humans and so do many animals. It's really only cruel if the mouse was mistreated prior by humans. I know it's sad but alas that's nature. A lion isn't evil for eating a gazelle...it's just doing what it needs to survive. Perhaps there is a more humane way to do this but idk.

@Wasserkaktus2 жыл бұрын
@@lucianaromulus1408 It's really not, no. Omnivores can eat both and when balanced properly can even exclusively eat one over the other: Humans eat more meat now than they ever have before in history due to how much more exponentially prosperous humans are today, and this is a fact. Prior to this, meat made up a tiny minority of our diets and proteins were mostly obtained through things like nuts, mushrooms and legumes. Animals were farmed more often than not for their fat and hides than their meat.

I have 2 major issues with this! 1- Your enclosure is way to small for that Rattlesnake its enclosure should be a little over the length of its body and it needs a proper hide. 2- That rat is too big for that rattlesnake! It took to many bites to subdue that rat! It needs to be fed mice or hoppers! You shouldn't have venomous snakes if you're not going to take care of them properly. 😡
@youaintcomp45543 жыл бұрын
I believe that enclosure is meant for feeding
@jwilson27932 жыл бұрын
Possible reason it took so long for the venom to kick in was that it may have been giving dry bites, more of a series of “piss off, leave me alone” bites, until it realized it’s feeding time and allowed more venom to flow, but even if it’s doing a smaller amount, it’ll take longer for the venom to take effect.

Do you not know anything about snakes?. Literally MOST of the prey snakes eat in both captivity and in the wild ARE ALIVE. Half of all predators prefer live prey over dead prey overall and snakes are one of them. Even if they do eat dead animals sometimes they prefer to hunt and eat live prey instead. Besides all it takes is one strike sometimes less than 4 or 3 (depending on the specific snake) to take items prey down. The animal will suffer a quick death before being swallowed unless the snake purposely squeezes the life out of it. This is nature deal with it.
@kingaha36572 жыл бұрын
@@Kaiju-bm4ts The thing I don't like and an inconsistency in your comment is how long this altercation lasted, being pinned with that deafening rattle and slow acting poison for 40 fucking minutes I just think if you're going to give it live make it quick ffs, I may have no right to stop people so all we have is civil dissent like how some vegans expose animal butcher conditions but that could help bring more moral conditions, maybe after the reaction in comments they will see to making its a quicker death instead of wandering around boxed in slowly dying for almost an hour
@Kaiju-bm4ts2 жыл бұрын
@@kingaha3657 Again like my comme i said the time it takes for a animal to die from a snake bite DEPENDS on the species of snake and how many bites it delivered to said animal. The creator of the video shouldn't have to edit or cut down the video to when the rat dies just because you either got a short attention span or can't simply skim through the video or can't handle how this is nature and this is how long it takes for this specific snake to kill a rat. If you can't handle nature or long the video is how about this DON'T watch it period
@kingaha36572 жыл бұрын
@@Kaiju-bm4ts Lol cutting the video? I'm clearly trying to empathize with the rat how would cutting make any difference to how long it suffered actually?
